ABSOLUTELY 1 STAR RESTAURANT!!! We had reservations for a grad dinner with about 10 people at 2pm, the food came out 2 hours later!!! And some people's food NEVER came! The waiters response to us was "I can't make the kitchen go any faster". We waited 1 hr to have our tables provided with water!!! When ordering they did not have crab cakes, did not have diff types of liquor behind the bar etc!!! It was horrible. They have sheets hanging from the ceiling tile separating diff parts of the restaurant. The whole party was on one tab and who knows what they actually charged us for because we didn't receive all our food. Our dinner entrees didn't come out with bread, we had to ask the waiter & when it came it was STORE BOUGHT BREAD. The Mac & cheese ..DISGUSTING!!! Taste like they added cottage cheese. Also they were PLAYING R KELLY, Your body's calling!!! Mind you it's about 4pm at this time! We had several children in our party and also other parties in the restaurant. The kids kept complaining the music was too loud. They had music playing on household speakers. I mean it couldn't get any worse. They never refilled our drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were on a menu picture in large cups but they came in tiny plastic cups. We refused to pay full price for the drinks & our waitress agreed they were served in the wrong cups so they ended up bringing us another round of drinks so we could get a full serving of our drinks, SMH!!! They never checked on us. We had to keep finding our waiter. This is literally the WORST restaurant ever. The kids even complained how the Ketchup was watered down!!!! Our group came to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The food was not delivered to our table all at once. Fifty minutes after the first meal was brought out the last meal still had not been delivered. We asked to speak with the manager, Charnata who had a NASTY attitude, and refused to comp the person's meal (my father, by the way) because grilled meals take longer (45 minutes), which we were not told when ordering. We ordered and the food was good. Delivery was quick. The smothered pork chops were tender and fall off the bone good. The rice was fair. The Mac and cheese was fair in taste but the consistency was great . The showstopper was the cornbread. It was so moist and tasty. The cornbread was to say the least,succulent. Listen, Jackies OnLaburnum is absolutely the worst in customer service! I came with my family with a group of about 12. Everyone's food came out at different times and my dad's food came literally everyone else's food was out and eaten. When I asked to speak with a manager to see if there was a discount that could be applied for the delay or if his meal could be taken off I was told a stern "No, we srent going ti comp his meal. In addition to no apology I was told that from the time that his food went in to the time that it cane out it was timed right. "Grilled food takes longer and the food came out when it was supposed to." Are you serious? Charnata is the manager that I spoke with. She was nasty nice. You could tell she was trying to hold her tongue but at the end of the day our waitress was amazing but the management is trash. I finally got try this restaurant and must say the wait was not worth it. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great. The sides could have at least filled the whole side portion of the tray. Nonetheless I enjoy it The kicker for me is the customer service. The server came to the car with the food and when the window was rolled down she said, you didn't see me here, you just gonna let me stand here. I wasn't the driver so I didn't comment. She wasn't nasty but I didn't think that was appropriate. Once she came back with the receipt we asked for Tatar sauce (she put 1 pack in the bag for catfish dinner ‍ ). She came back in about 10 mins with the tartar sauce on my side of the car (passenger side) & just stood there waiting (I didn't realize she was there) until the driver told her to come to his side & once she did she said so you just wasn't going to roll down the window. This was my first time at Jackie's and the pros were definitely greater than the cons. We were immediately seated noticing the cool colors and decor. It's really cute and trendy. Love the flat screens. ( nice touch). Our server was nice, but a little dry. It was almost like she was tired and wanted to be home. Smiles were few. Ok as you can see I'm speaking on what I wasn't pleased with first.. There were just a few patrons in the restaurant, but it took a over an hour for us to receive our food. Now, the rolls were hot and buttery. I had the fish and shrimp dinner with cabbage and potato salad, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was delicious !The portions were reasonable and we felt like it was worth the wait. The potato salad OMG is sooo good and the cabbage seasoned to perfection. We were really looking forward to a great dinner but was so disappointed. We had rhe smothered pork chops. Even though a large portion, the pork chops were tough and the gravey didn't taste homemade. The mash potatoes where instant and tasted like soap. The cabbage was ok. Now on the bright side Jumbo wings were great along with the green beans. Worse experience ever as a person who isn't from the area. Never heard of place that stops serving a chicken/steak & cheese sub after 7pm just because (absolutely no reason at all). It blew my appetite to the point I didn't bother ordering anything else. They could have at least made a note on their menu of the items they do not serve after a certain time. It was a waste of time and gas. With all of the items they have in the menu takes longer to cook. All I got was a lousy sorry as if I can eat a sorry. The catfish is good. It is not easy to get excellent service during karaoke night, which is on Thursday... you have to get other people to help you flag down the waiter. However, the staff and owner are nice. The music is excellent when Kevin is the DJ. Overall, this is cool spot to chill at after work. You have to know a local to get a guaranteed seat, unless you get there early, otherwise you will be standing... still a cool place. 3.5 stars for fun... I always enjoy myself due to the locals entertaining everyone and 5 stars when Kevin the DJ is present. I even ordered an extra chicken wing to find there was no wing with my food. I called Jackie's to let them know and first of all the young lady who answered the phone was NOT PROFESSIONAL! When I explained to her what I was missing she says to me "WHAT DO I WANT THEM TO DO"! I want my food that I paid for that's what! So many things wrong with this place but I'm still mad that I paid nearly $20 for two chicken wings and 5 old and chewy shrimp with a side of canned green beans they pass off as "string beans", store bought roll that added nothing to the food and so so potato salad. Never heard of this place until I began to make my rounds on Black Restaurant Week. My mother and I visited on a Wednesday around 3pm. When we came in we saw a sign that said seat yourself but someone came to seat us anyway. The staff was very polite and welcoming, upon arrival. I went to the rest room and ran into an issue of there only being one mens and one womens toilet a piece and someone was hemmed up in the womens for a min. I used the mens with no problem. The floor was a little sticky but the room was pretty clean. When I got back to the table there was a sweetheart there to take our orders, she let us know they were operating on a limited menu for the Black Restaurant week and explained to us how to order from that menu. The ambiance felt homey and comfortable from the music to the waitstaff to the music. The staff seemed to get along pretty well and helped each other without question. The Food: I ordered fried catfish with yams, maccoroni and cheese and lemon cake. My mom had the pork chops smothered in gravy and onions, greens and mac.The portions yall! Talking about food for 2 days and better the next day! Yams just sweet enough, catfish amazing but I didnt care for the mac too much a bit watery and lacking flavor. Overall pretty doggone good. This place was previously known as Elliot's on Laburnum and while I'm not sure if the ownership is the same, I've never been to this location during that time. I went into Jackie's on a Saturday night to place an order to go. It was spacious and most people sat at the bar. I went to the bar to place an order - shrimp with Mac and cheese, yams and an additional side of potato salad. The staff wasn't very friendly and I kind of felt like I was bothering her even though all I did was ask for a menu. I opted to wait in the car and I asked how long it would take after I paid and pre-paid a tip. After about 15 minutes I went back in, the waitress handed me my food and I left. The customer service wasn't very customer friendly but I tried the food when I got home and it was okay. The shrimp were very good- seasoned very well, good size, cooked well, etc.. Mac and cheese was pretty average, nothing to get too excited about, but it wasn't bad. Yams were over seasoned - not too sweet, but too much nutmeg or cinnamon. I really didn't enjoy the potato salad because it was more relish in there than I really care for. Delicious! I had the grilled shrimp with yams and string beans. I also tried the lemon cake. The atmosphere is relaxed. The music is great. Sometimes they have live music. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac 'n cheese via DoorDash. My food arrived 1.5 hours after I ordered it (was supposed to take approximately 60 minutes). But, at least it was still fairly warm when it arrived. But here's the thing...I was expecting home-cooked, made from scratch soul food. That is not what they serve here. Mashed potatoes were obviously instant with gravy made from a mix. (And you only get one tiny scoop of potatoes.) Mac and cheese looked liked someone had dumped a bag of shredded cheese in some macaroni and mixed it around a bit. Not terribly appetizing to look at, though the portion size was more appropriate and it didn't taste especially bad, I suppose. I will say that the fried chicken seemed to be hand-breaded. It was very nicely seasoned and crunchy, though it was a bit overcooked and rather dry. I am honestly mystified as to how this place has so many 5-star reviews on Google. It's not that good.
