Brown stew chicken, rice and beans, cabbage
    Amy M.

Stopped by for lunch with my friends today and we were pretty impressed. I have passed by this place multiple times and never stopped because it took me a while to realize that it was even back here. The signs with the daiquiris on it finally grabbed my attention enough to search online for what this place offers. I grabbed the brown stew chicken plate with rice and beans, and cabbage. I also got a cocoa bread and a bottled Jamaican cola. All of the drinks other than the daiquiris are in bottles, but they have a couple of choices: Jamaican ginger beer, pineapple soda or regular champagne cola, and then bottled water, Coca Cola and sprite. My friends ordered the jerk chicken plates with string beans and cabbage and rice, and a side of plantains. I loved the brown stew chicken. It was so tender, it fell off the bone. The flavor was delightful, and I really liked the spices they used in the chicken, the string beans and the cabbage. All of the spices together were great, and it was really well-balanced so none of them stuck out as overly-aggressive. It was very well done. The rice and beans were a tad dry, but that tends to happen in restaurants I feel, so I'm not going to hold that against them, I'll just opt to try one of the other side options next time. The cocoa bread was slightly bigger than my whole hand, but was very fluffy so it is DEFINITELY worth the price. It tastes like a nice sweet roll and was awesome for sopping up brown stew. I loved the plantains too. They were still super creamy and soft on the inside, and the outside was crisp, but not super caramelized which I prefer because it is tidier, and doesn't hurt my teeth as much as some places that let it get really overcooked and brown and sugary on the outside. I'm sure that's just a preference and some people might disagree, but I think their plantains were my favorite I have had in a long while because of the texture. The vibe is sort of interesting. With three large TVs above the very large bar playing various things (sports, news, and something else), this place almost feels like a sports bar, but cleaner and with better lighting. Some catchy reggae-esque music playing too so it really did feel like a cleaner version of a sports bar. We didn't try the daiquiris since it was lunch time and we all still had to pick our kids up from school, but they had 6 different machines with flavors, and can make a ton of combinations from that, layering them to be super gorgeous. We were very tempted. I will definitely be back to try everything on the menu, the oxtails and curry goat and pretty much everything on the menu looks amazing, and I am DEFINITELY getting a daiquiri in the future.

    Small Pepper steak

On my only free Saturday in a long time I wanted something good and Caribbean or in this case Caribbean-esq was the move. I ordered pepper steak (I should have ordered the shrimp curry) with two side dishes-small order. My side dishes were macaroni and cheese and the cabbage. I also ordered a veggie patty. The pepper steak was tasty and they give you a lot. The macaroni and cheese was good, and so was the cabbage. But, in all the Caribbean food I have tried, I have never had mixed vegetables in my cabbage and It's the mixed vegetables with string beans and corn that you would put in the soup. I mean, your girl ain't complaining because it hit the spot, it's just different from what I'm used to, that's all I'm saying. It was a little saltier than I would have liked, but it was not overwhelming. They told me that this was the same place that used to be Petersburg. I was there years ago and I only had oxtails. I think I'll try them- the restaurant and it's oxtails again. I definitely recommend that you get the veggie patties to eat with your stuff. So go to this place then take your meal and a nice cold cup of something to drink in front of X-Files or law and order of any flavor that you've already have seen 9 million times and baby.... you're in for a time.

Delivery- Large size Oxtail stew with cabbage and rice & beans. Yum!

My oxtail meal was really tasty! I ordered food through uber. I ordered a large oxtail dinner and picked rice & beans and cabbage as my sides. All of the food was very flavorful and cooked with love. Things were done just about right. The rice and beans were just moist enough from a rich dark gravy from the oxtail and well seasoned, The cabbage was more finely cut than I've had in a while, making it feel like a step up, and not like someone just took a hatchet to a cabbage head. The oxtail was just right. I think they have a big daiquiri menu at the restaurant. When I initially drove by the place and didn't know what it was, I thought it was some kind of asian tropical frozen smoothie place because it had a big sign with a frozen drink that said "Daq.". I couldn't order any if the drinks off of Uber Eats so I will need to go there soon in person.

Stopped by for lunch and had a jerk chx bowl w rice & peas. Jerk sauce was too sweet and not spicy at all. It was ok... I'd like to try it without the sauce next time I'm in the area. My gf had the oxtail dinner and loved it. I tried a daiquiri, can't remember the name.... It was too sweet, too tangy, too boozy and I couldn't finish it. I'd definitely return. Staff very friendly.

    Oxtails, cabbage, macncheese

I was blessed to be served by Howard and met part of the cooking staff on February 2. The service was excellent..100%. Atmosphere....clean peaceful and calming. Food....OMG!!!......steaming hot and delicious. My first time having oxtails, cabbage was cooked to perfection and Mac n cheese was like my grandmama's. Ginger beer-my new beverage of choice. I will be back!!

This place is a great spot to grab some really good Caribbean/ Jamaican food. Stopped by in the middle of the day and the place is booming with great music and great service. They have daiquiris if you're looking for a drink and they are strong!! The place was busy but the wait was not bad food was pipping hot and fresh. Definitely coming back to try the whole menu.

Please forgive me I forgot her name, but the lady at the counter was patient and happy answer whatever questions I had about Trini Food! I had the oxtails with peas and rice and I liked it! I also tried doubles for the first time! It was a different texture for me, but I honestly enjoyed it (I do wish it was warmed up a little more, I definitely should've asked lol) The ambience is so cute! In my time of coming into that area I never knew it was there. Definitely a gem! Hope to be back soon!

I am here from Miami searching everywhere for good Trini food specifically bake and doubles. I…read morefound this place on yelp and google. This place is 50 minutes from my house. The first time I went was last week Wednesday in the afternoon. A very nice young man took my order. When I asked for bake and shark the woman who I assume is the owner came up to the front and told me bake and shark is only available every other Saturday. I asked her if it would be available that coming Saturday and she said no, next week, that coming Saturday would be meat pies. She was nice enough this day. My first visit I ordered doubles, curry chicken and stew beans and buss up shut. The doubles were pretty good, the curry was 2 chicken legs swimming in what was more like a ton of watery broth in which my beans got completely lost. The curry flavors were not very developed. There was no aloo. The roti was the best thing I ordered that day. I did not come that Saturday as instructed but I returned yesterday. Yelp and Google states the business opens at 11:30. I walked up to the door at 12:12 and it was locked. The sign on the door states they open at 12:30 on Saturdays. I sat in my car until 12:40 and went back in. There were already people in line being helped by the same lady from last week. When it was my turn I asked for bake and shark and she told me "next Saturday". WOW. I drove all this way specifically for that. At this point I'm already disappointed so I ask her what she does have. She tells me to "read the board". Then she says she will help someone else and come back to me. When I don't respond she says "HELLO" as if speaking to a child. Thankfully, the lady with the purple hair is nice and professional. When it's my turn to order I order sorrel, pholourie, doubles, curry chicken and spinach and roti. Curry chicken is my favorite so I want to give it another try. With these 2 visits alone I've spent about $70 so far. I get in my car and open the bag with the pholourie to eat on the ride home. They're ice cold greasy and soggy. How? The place just opened and I just walked out! I get home and try the curry chicken. Watery flavorless broth again. No aloo again. This time the chicken is not done. My spinach is drowning in this broth just like the beans because for some reason it's all put into one container with no separation. The doubles are a sloppy mess but edible. Once again the buss up shut is the best part of the whole meal. This was a waste of time, money, and gas. This is not a good representation of Trini food. I don't think I will return here. **UPDATE** I updated my review to one star after this wicked lady replied. This idiotic fool is messaging me over and over about my review! I haven't messaged her back not even one time. She's clearly nuts. Notice she never said anything I wrote was untrue. There's a huge difference between pink chicken (ie: smoked meat) and bloody slimy chicken that's clear in some spots. You are selling food to the public and you think chicken is always pink no matter how long you cook it? WTH?! Sounds like food poisoning and salmonella to me. And please tell me where is the big chicken?? You're serving drumsticks! Secondly, pholourie literally takes 1-2 minutes to fry- why would anyone fry it then let it just sit in a COOLER???? Who's expecting fried dough to be hot for hours?? I expect it to be freshly made when I order it duh! So she's cooking the entire menu all at once and just serving it, cold and raw. Disgusting. The standards and attitude on this woman are both gross. Eat this crap at your own risk.
