My biggest fear is talking to auto specialists about my vehicle. In the past I have been lied to, uncharged, and without a car for weeks. My car had an issue pop up recently and I found Jack's Automotive on Yelp. The positive reviews is what was encouraging to me because he looked to be honest, knowledgeable, and trustworthy when it comes to working on your vehicle. I explained the issue to Jack and he took a look at my car. I convinced myself the repair was going to take all weekend and was going to be very expensive. Jack called a couple hours later and described the issue and price. I was extremely happy to find out he knew how to fix the issue and the price was extremely affordable. He even had it done by the end of the day! If you are looking around for a great specialist, please give Jack and Jack's Automotive a chance. Unfortunately we had to take another family car to the mechanic again. Fortunately we have a very GOOD mechanic to go to. So we dropped off our car at Jacks Automotive and the next day we had the Oil Pressure Switch replaced. The damage, including labor and a discount came to $50 dollars even. Thank you again Jack! Jack is always honest, does his research, and explains what he will do or what he did with the car. He does not try to nickel and dime you. First experience at Jakes - I am very happy. Was able to talk to Jake before I dropped my car off, which was nice. He got me in and out in about 3-4 hours changing all my brakes out which were grinding. Price was right about what I'd expect, maybe a little less. For me though it's more about getting something done right by someone who knows what they're doing and this seems to be a place where that happens. I will be utilizing Jakes from here on. read more

I called this place because my check engine light had turned on. I explained the situation and told the guy I wanted to bring my car in, but I couldn't leave my car that day if it needed work because my son had a doctor appointment that afternoon. The guy encouraged me to bring the car in just to get checked out, and if it needed work, I could make an appointment for another day. I did and it turned out to be a leak in the gas cap. The guy reset my computer, put grease on my cap, and sent me on my way. Without charging me. I appreciated the service and honesty. When I do actually need service on my car, I will bring it back. read more

I have the feeling that if these guys weren't working on the cars of people who were willing to pay, they'd be standing around in their own garages, working on cars for free. This is an old school mechanic's garage. If you're looking for a shiny waiting room with a TV, magazines, and a coffee bar, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, honest, thrifty mechanic who can get the job done and won't try to "up-sell" you, call Jack. I took my car - which I was about to get rid of - in to Jack's, asking him to find the cheapest way to make it run decently. Cleaned out the throttle for $60, so I could unload it. We're now having trouble with our other car, which we will be replacing soon. Guess who we're calling! read more

Let's see, Jack is talented, honest and really good at what he does. He changed the oil in my Mercedes, fixed lights that theoretically only the dealer could fix, and installed air filters. An honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold. Jack has fixed three of my families vehicles over the past few years. He is thorough at diagnosing the actual problem. Jack has always been honest and reasonable. Only negative is sometimes I have have to wait to get my car in, but it has been worth it. Work he has done for me includes, radiators replacement, various brake work, gas tank repair, struts, front end work and more. One time I was sure a car had a bad steering rack so I brought my car in and asked him to replace it. (Typically a high dollar job) He called me the next day and found it was a sticky universal joint in the steering column. He lubricated it and that fixed the problem. No charge! read more

Jack is by far the best mechanic my husband and I have ever used. He is very knowledgeable, very thorough, VERY honest, and has exceptional pricing. He is flexible, accommodating to our work schedules, and treats his customers like they are his family. He has saved us money more than once on what other garages were going to charge us for the same work. Cannot recommend him enough. Have to say I can no longer say that mechanics = bleed me dry. We were new to the area and my husband's childhood mechanic was retiring. We stopped into Jack's because of father-in-law (also new to the area) recommendation. There is no place else we would go than Jacks! At the time we were having issues with my civic adjusting to the weather from TX heat to IL winter ( that's my diagnosis because after that winter, there was never another problem). Jacks couldn't find anything wrong with it after all diagnostics were run, but he could drive it and see that it wasn't driving correctly (not wanting to go over 30 mph). Jack didn't even charge us, he just referred us to another shop specializing with transmissions, we just had to pay to tow it. We ended up not needing any other work done because by the time the transmission mechanic got to the car, it was acting normal again. After all of that, we could have been out some serious money, but Jacks Automotive doesn't = bleed me dry. We'll be back as needed and won't think twice about trusting Jacks! read more

My appointment was for an oil change and transmission fluid change on Thursday at 9:00. It was understood that I will be waiting there as they work on my car. I got there at exactly 9:00. It appeared that the place was closed. The garage doors were down and to my surprise, the door was locked. The hours were posted and it said that they were open at 8:00. I then, knocked on the door.....nothing. Their phone number was posted on their sign so I checked my out going phone calls to see if somehow I called the wrong place....nope the numbers matched. At 9:02 I called them and ended up leaving a very detailed message as to who I was, my number, my appointment time, and what was to be done to my car. At the end of the message, I said that it seems that they are closed and I'm very confused. At 9:04 I hear someone unlock the door. Ok, no big deal...I walk into the business to find no one. I then peek around the back into the garage and saw someone on the phone. After a couple more minutes, he appeared to be off the phone so I said, "Hello?" He appeared to acknowledge me....but then ignore that I was there. A few more minutes go by and he starts up a car and continues to back up. At this time it was 9:09, and I admit I got pretty mad, so I left. My appointment was at 9:00 and I was ignored for nine minutes. After I got home, I calmed down and was assuming that after they got my phone message, they would call me....nope. No call back. Talk about dismal customer service. read more
