I took my Buick Lucerne in for an oil change and told the receptionist to make sure the tires were inflated to 35 psi per Discount Tire where I purchased the newer Michelin tires ($700 purchase). They need 35 psi in the winter because the rims are aluminum and cause the tires to lose air in the extreme cold. Within two and half weeks, I received a warning from Onstar that my tires were at 28 psi with one at 27 psi. They did not lose all that air in that amount of time but were not inflated properly per my request. I took in my older Chevy Malibu which had dashboard lights going on including check engine light and service engine soon light. The tachometer was also not working. Auto Zone read the codes for FREE and I took that printout in with the car. They kept the car for three days. All they did was clear the codes, did not fix the tachometer and by the time I went a mile away from VIP toward Rt. 30, the check engine light was on! This car is older but always well taken care of and garage kept. No attention to detail plus I was charge $99 for nothing vs. Auto Zone putting the car on their computer to test for codes for free. I will not be back to VIP ever. read more

Stay Away - This guy and wife Bonnie ripped me off. I made an appointment to have my brakes looked at on my 69 Grand Prix, 32,000 actual miles. collector car. When I called to make appt they told me it would be about a week before they could see it. Made an appt fr the following Wednesday and advised them I was leaving for Sturgis that Friday. After dropping car the days went by and had to leave for trip... When I was in Sturgis got a call from owner whom stated car is ready. I advised will p/u when I return. The problem the car was having was the brake light came on and the pedal was stiff, hard to push - so the car was towed to this shop 4 miles from my home. In addition I also dropped off 4 boxes of brake parts that were never opened - so they could have the parts they needed. Car was filthy when I picked it up and all my boxes were opened but nothing was used. Was told they couldn't find anything wrong but it was $200.00 to inspect it. I paid the money and as soon as I pulled into my garage brake light came back on.... I also had to pay the carwash down the street 40.00 to wash it as could barely see out window cuz all the dust. I called shop back asap to be told to bring it back.. Asked Bonnie why all my boxes were opened but you didn't need any parts. She replied she don't know. This place had no intention of looking at my car and just put 200.00 in their pocket. After my mechanic buddy got time to come over and look at it he determined right away less than a minute that the master cylinder was leaking. you could see the brake fluid dripping down the booster. These guys never looked at my car and rifled through all my sealed parts boxes for no reason. they are crooks and run a filthy shop. Do yourself a favor and stay away!! Deceptive business practices. The master cylinder is the brain of the brake system and should have been the 1st thing looked at. Guess they needed the $200.00 so Bonnie cud eat at McDonalds for another month- Theft by Deception is criminal. You can see the place is going down hill fast and for good reason. read more

I had numerous issues with this repair shop. First they told me the issue in my car was fixed. The first issue was fixed, but when I picked it up, the engine light came back on, and it was having serious driving issues. I left it at the shop and had them look at this issue. When I called a week later to see if they had fixed the car, they had not even looked at it. A week after that, I lived up the car, and the issue was fixed. The engine lights still came on. Overall, I would say that they had poor customer service, and they did not value my business. read more

Purchased brake kit online. Called at least 20 shops in area. VIP was the only shop that actually used book time to estimate install. Working in a performance shop many years ago, I felt this is an honest way to treat customers. Very happy with brake system install.. I will be letting friends know about VIP.!! read more

My 2004 Lexus RX 330 was sounding really loud in the front from the tires. My husband who was a mechanic for the Air Force thought it was the bearings. I thought oh no! Bearings??!!! I knew that was going to be expensive. It turned out that I needed bearings on one set, rotors on another and a sway bar. Bonnie is as professional as can be. If she says she's going to call you, she's going to call you! I get my car back and feels like I am riding on AIR! It's so smooth and rides so nice as if I just bought it new. This place is great. It's so difficult to find an honest, trustworthy mechanic but this place is it. They don't just throw parts at a problem they're not sure of (IF they don't know what it is), they'll make sure they do their diligence to properly diagnose it. Got my car towed there once because it wouldn't start, when it got there, it started right up. They hung on to it for a day or so to try to repeat the problem (to diagnose it). They couldn't, so they gave it back and said to call them if it happens again. Low and behold, about 2 months later it did. Fortunately, I was at a gas station in New Lenox and they CAME to ME at the gas station! Talk about service! The VIP rep helped me out as he tried a thing or two, and he got it started. He knew exactly what it was by the tweak he had to do to get it started, so I drove it there, they made the repair, and no issues since! They are always very fast on their turn-arounds as well. Prices for parts are a little higher, but their service and good labor price more than makes up for it. I'll gladly pay a couple more bucks to know that I'm in good hands not getting ripped off. I live in central Illinois and purchased a used car in New Lenox. I brought the car to V.I.P. Automotive to have it looked over prior to buying it in order to give me some piece of mind. They were able to fit me in with very little notice and were so kind and efficient. In addition to examining the vehicle and test driving it, they looked over the Carfax report and answered every question that I had...all at no cost to me. If anything raises an eyebrow, they will do a more thorough and time consuming investigation which will cost money but since my situation was pretty cut and dry, it was complimentary. This level of great customer service is almost unheard of today and the fact that the V.I.P. folks still embody this kind of old-fashioned quality and commitment to the customer is something deserving of five stars. Also, their waiting room is super clean and comfy and elegant. My boyfriend and I felt like we were hanging out in a nice living room and were even offered coffee and bottled water.
