Very pleasant to deal with. Their hourly rates were better than Dellwood Auto . I needed them to take my door panel off to check something with my window. While Dellwood told me $100 an hour and wouldn't tell me know long it would take (so it could be anywhere from 1 to 4 hours...), Karn Auto told me $86 per hour and that it would take no more than an hour to do it. I took my Sebring back to get a new tire rod and a new wheel barring. Both were priced well and done in one day. I plan to take my car back to have the motor in my window replaced soon. The only thing I think they should add on is a spot touch-up/cleaning. The first time I brought my Sebring in, the door handle and the steering wheel were left dirty. Same with parts of the door. (All places they had done work.) A simple wipe down with a cleaning product would have made a huge difference and made me feel more like I was taking my car into the dealer (who vacuums, washes and waxes my car). read more

I have been going to Karn for 16 years! John is very honest about what needs to be repaired and what does not. I was even interested in buying a used car for my son and he looked at it for nothing! I thought my brakes were going a few times and he sent me home with no bill because there was nothing wrong. One time We were leaving for vacation to WI in the summer (very hot out) and our air conditioning went out in our van(we were leaving in the morning). John stayed after till 8:00pm to fix our Van so we could go on vacation with Air in our Van! Most other places I have dealt with in the past ALWAYS found something wrong to bill you for and would not go the extra mile and stay open longer just to help a customer in a bind! I really like dealing with John on our high(ish) milage car. 2 of the 4 times it's been in he's done diagnosis and even an easy repair and didn't even charge us. The time we needed a repair he was very clear about our options and extremely fair on price. I do get maintenance on my new car from the dealer, but my older ride will only be taken to Karn Auto. read more

John and his employee (I feel awful for not getting his name) were beyond helpful and honest. I had called around to a few other local businesses about an issue with my car, one place was dismissive and questioned why I was requesting this specific issue be looked into, but not John! Pretty impressed! I am a dialysis patient and needed my car by the end of the day, dropped it off around 8:30 and they called around noon! I just had my car repaired by Karn Automotive yesterday. I brought my car in for repair at 8am without an appointment. I was called at 1:30 and told that it looked as if my problem was a cam shaft sensor that needed to be replaced, but that they were looking at some other things before they went through with any repair. I was called back another 45 minutes later, and he confirmed that this was indeed the problem, and I gave him the go ahead to repair. My car was repaired and ready for pick up at the end of the day! Anytime you have car trouble, there is some level of anxiety and fear over what could be wrong and how much it will cost. I am very thankful for the people at Karn Automotive for keeping me updated, and doing the repairs for a VERY reasonable price! John and Vinny are very helpful and honest in solving my wife's car problem. I took my wife's vehicle to another shop prior to going to Karns Auto, and they wanted to charge me to fix unrelated issues regarding the problem with the vehicle when I already know what's wrong...lol. So I took it to Karns Auto where they described what needs to be fixed...(which is exactly what I already know). If your car breaks down in front of this place, I am sure that they could get you back on the road in a couple of days...however, Karn Automotive should not be your first option. Should you have to return for warranty work (most shops give you 12 months/12,000 miles on anything that they install), expect to pay for the labor to install it. I was pretty disappointed when a rack and pinion on my 1999 domestic car went out on me for the second time in under a year, but was really disappointed when I had to pay for them to do the work. There are other shops in town that will take much better care of you for the same amount of money. I want a 5 star mechanic, and haven't found one since I moved here. read more

2nd time using John. John is honest and fair. What more can you ask for?? I showed the bill to my coworkers and they could not believe it. For the same front end problem other people have been swindled into over $1000 in repairs. Karn did it for under $300 including an alignment. Being a female, it is hard to find a reliable auto repair shop that won't take advantage of people, especially a woman. I have taken my car there for many years and John has always been upfront and honest with me regarding repairs needed and the costs of repairs. I brought my car here because the brakes are not working properly and my ABS light is also on. He kept the car for two days and ended up telling us there is nothing wrong with the car at all. He charged us $90 in the end and the brakes are still not working properly. I would never recommend this place to anyone!! read more

Forget going to the dealership where all they do is replace parts the car's computer tells them to and you're taken care of by a group of disinterested 'service associates' that don't listen to you. John will take very good care of you at a reasonable price. Wife's new Jeep would not start occasionally and she said the ignition switch felt funny to her so she took it to the Jeep dealership 5 times and each time they said they could not reproduce the problem and there were no error codes in the computer therefore they did not know what to fix. Took the Jeep to Karn where John listened to my wife when she said the ignition switch felt funny to her and he fixed the problem in a few hours by replacing the ignition switch. Unlike the part-changers at the dealerships; John knows the lost art of how to listen to customers and troubleshoot a problem. He's got our car repair business from now on! read more
