First class job at a very fair price…read more Bottom line...I highly recommend Georgoulis Roofing and Construction. Our experience with them could not have been any better. I wasn't looking forward to finding a new contractor, especially since there seems to be so many small roofing companies out there. We used a roofer on our old house years ago and we would not use them again. We also knew of a roofer that our neighbor used, but he ended up over-estimating the roof size, which resulted in much higher costs for materials and labor. I don't think he really wanted the job. I saw great reviews for Georgoulis on multiple web sites, and I preferred to deal with a local company. Since I relied on those reviews, I wanted to share our experience for the benefit of others. Al Greene (Director of Field Operations) was great to work with. He was always extremely responsive, replying to all of our emails in a very timely manner (almost always within 24 hours or less). We looked at both Certainteed and GAF shingles, and decided on Certainteed Landmark (Pewterwood color). Moises, Christian and the rest of the roofing crew did a great job. Our house is 2500 sq ft...2 stories plus a side family room and the roof has a fairly good grade (roofers had to use safety ropes). They said the existing 1-layer roof would be stripped and replaced in two days, and it was. There were seven workers the first day and they worked a 12 hour day. There were three workers the second day and they worked 10 hours. They moved along at a really good pace. They placed blue tarps to protect the shrubs, walkway and deck. They then placed larger black tarps from the roof edge to the ground to protect the house itself. The crew also used several large magnets to search for nails all around the grounds and the lawn when done. There were only a few minor follow-up issues that required fixing - nothing unexpected for such a dirty job. A few asphalt marks on the siding and aluminum flashing from the shingle debris. There were also a couple of pieces of white aluminium flashing that had to be bent during installation in order to get the shingles all of the way in. This was completely understandable. Since we had a prior problem with bats in one of those areas, we asked them to restore the flashing to its original snug fit. They took care of everything right away. We also had three window screens that were damaged by shingle debris on the second day (minor scraps from the new roof; large black house tarps are only up during roof removal on day 1; had to be removed from the roof edge in order to install the new roof). I offered to take the screens to be repaired and Georgoulis reimbursed us. In hindsight, I wish I had taken the screens out. Kevin and Billy installed 10 sets of new vinyl shutters as well as a rain diverter over the front steps. They also addressed some of the clean-up issues. We covered the items in our attic since we knew there would be lots of granules going through the ridge vent during removal. We also took down anything hanging on the walls that might fall due to vibrations (mirrors, framed pictures, etc). Turns out we probably didn't need to do that, but better safe than sorry. We've already had a few good rain storms and there are no leaks or issues with the new roof. The builder had used inferior shingles when they built the house. We had a couple of leaks and had shingles blow off several times over the years due to the wind (due to lack of tar adhesive on the shingles). We now know that we have a solid, high quality roof. Everyone involved was great from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for more. It really exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend Georgoulis to family and friends and would definitely use them again for any job.

LIke many people, we rely on customer reviews and word of mouth when hiring for home projects. Despite being the most expensive option, we chose Refined Roofing after relying on other customer reviews. A huge mistake! In short, do not hire Refined Roofing because of their lack of site management, their lack of professionalism, and their deceitful behavior. We live in a neighborhood where houses are close to one another. We were concerned about the impact of our project on our neighbors and made this clear to Refined Roofing at the start. We were promised careful site management from a site supervisor, with a specific promise to tarp the area, including the neighbor's yard, to capture all debris. NO supervisor was on site during the actual execution of the project. As the photo shows, the area was INADEQUATELY tarped, debris was carelessly spewed all over our property and our neighbor's. When supervisors finally visited the site, they promised to repair the neighbor's yard. Once I paid my bill, they refused to make good on their promise. Additionally, the actual workmanship was sloppy. Among other things, they knowingly applied broken shingles to the new roof and did not apply a promised second coat of rubber in one area. Furthermore, the owners of Refined Home Services, Gino and Karen, were rude, dismissive, and dishonest when confronted with the facts. They denied that there was any debris mismanagement or damage, despite the photo proof included here. While the company replaced the broken shingles and finally cleaned up the initial mess, they refused to take responsibility for the damage they caused and left us in the uncomfortable situation they created with our neighbors. In short, Refined Roofing lacks quality of service, integrity, and decency. This company is not worth hiring ... ever.

After having hired him for extensive work, I believe that Gino Spero runs a racket business that…read morebilks homeowners by lying about labor done and materials used. He gives you a relatively high estimate (supposedly because of quality) and then farms out the labor to a cheaper third party subcontractor for whom he does inadequate quality assurance nor does he supervise. He lies on the contract and becomes borderline unreachable once the work is finished and inevitably deteriorates as the seasons change. We hired him to build a roof which he did not weatherproof--or likely did not inform his subcontractors to--and then denied any wrongdoing once the roof started to collapse. There are open holes on the roof not even supported by plywood and he afterward tried to claim that the wrapping paper and felt used between wood and shingles was really a water shield as stated in his contract, which of course is a categorical lie. When confronted with the photos he lied again and stated that the "Grace ice and water shield" had really been used. It was not. The damage caused by this is extremely expensive and time consuming to address. The entire roof is covered with cheap paper. The leaks are extensive and directly above the HVAC system and electrical equipment. In addition to that the shingles are hastily glued on and too few were used overall which of course can only lead to more water penetration. They ended up tossing a good number of shingles that we had bought from them. The deck was full of holes, and the roof corners not even taped or covered with plywood. He tried to blame all leaks on parts of the roof he did not work on but this is easily disproven by an objective outside party. Even more fatally, the decks were not built with any slope or incline, so they collect water like rice cookers. He of course did not offer to fix or reimburse for the necessary work to fix it and is onto his next scam. We tried calling him countless times to fix the damage but he never showed up. You can get away with a lot of borderline fraudulent behavior in the contracting world and he is an embarrassment to other roofers and honest people in this business.

When it was time for us to do a major renovation, we invited them to give us a quote with other contractors. We ultimately chose them, although they were not the lowest quote. We chose to leave our home during construction to give them freedom to do their thing. Not only did Paul work quickly and efficiently, but during the job, he called frequently to keep me updated, and he came up with ideas to make the space more usable and modern. Rather than keep 2 old fashioned pantries, he had an idea to pull off the doors and order cabinet frames and doors and extend the kitchen into the hallway. He pulled out the insides and reengineered them to our custom specs. The result was that for minimal cost (hundreds of dollars) we got much more functionality and efficiency. We ended up adding to the kitchen and dining room job. What did we add? We removed popcorn ceiling, painted hallways and stairwell, painted master bath and bedroom, redid two upstairs bathrooms and more. We came home to a new house in April 2021 just as covid is (hopefully) winding down. What a gift Paul is. I'm happy to show the work that Paul and his crew did. He employs the best subcontractors and partners with them to ensure they are working together well. You can't go wrong with Paul and Barrowclough. Paul is a master carpenter.

We had an excellent experience with Tom Barrowclough Contracting on our recent home renovations…read more Tom met with us promptly after I called to request an appointment for a quote. Our project included a new roof, siding and all new windows. Tom delivered our detailed quote within a week or so. Our project started mid July 2018 and was completed last week. We were informed by Tom that the foreman, Paul Newman and crew would arrive at 7:00 am on a Monday morning, which did happen. Going forward Paul was in communication with us daily informing us of the next days schedule. All coordinating of product delivery, plumber, electrician, plasterer were under his supervision. There were no delays even with the August extreme heat. The crew of 3 were courteous and worked consistently through out the day. All materials were cleaned up at the end of the day. We requested some additional projects and the crew all worked together and made it happen. This included painting all the new window trim and a few rooms and ceilings. What impressed us the most, beside the quality of work, was that the Barrowclough team took our project and ran with it while consulting with us if needed. Most notable and dramatic is that they repaired the spa platform crossbeams to something that is definitely aesthetically better looking! They did a lot of cleanup work such as sanding off chalk, and pencil lines previously left behind. They cleaned off the residual cardboard from the sono tube support pillars. But I think one of the most impressive things of all is that they literally raked out all the residual stone, debris and shale that had been left under the spa and deck. My wife was much happier with this result, and I'm grateful to them for following through on these issues. I've posted pictures of the cleanup work that was done by them today.

The estimate came way below the other 2 we got. We didn't go with them because if price.... but the initial inspection. The crew of 5 guys were amazing. They arrived at 8 and got right to work after setting up. No radios, no one smoking and no breaks till 12 noon. An hour tonthe minute they were back to work. We had an issue with wood roof members and I decided to re apply the entire roof with new wood. We weren't taken advantage of and still came below the other estimates. Clean up at 6 each night WS done in a manner you'd never really know they were there. When we needed the additional wood it arrived in time for the install. Job supervisor dropped the job twice each day. I would highly recommend Better Built for your home repairs and renovations
