It's true the Owners are nice until you give them money, one main reason I stopped shopping here, I've have bought two kittens & a snake from here and nothing has had health problems. Yes it stinks, Yes i'd like to see the dogs running around in bigger areas. I do sometimes feel like they don't clean as good as they should. Maybe to make you feel bad so you'll buy the animal? I don't know. I've worked in a pet shop and my boss would have shit canned my ass if I ever let the reptile tanks get at bad as theirs. The monkeys are not for sale there enclosure has always been clean its the glass that needs to be replaced. DISGUSTING!!! Needs to be shut down, the dogs are in FISH TANKS, u can't even see inside of the aquariums. The smell smells like something died. Employees are disrespectful. Most of the supplies are outdated on the shelves, LOTS AND LOTS of cleaning needs to be done for example the windows are all smudged, the floor is eroded, the amount of dust on the shelves is something else. Bought my sister a puppy (Pomeranian) for Thanksgiving. The dog had the runs for an entire week, so she took him to the vet. The dog has giardia. It's now been 2 weeks and dog still sick. This dog was EXPENSIVE! The conditions of this place are deploarable. I bought the damn dog because I felt bad for it. We were in there when it was freezing and all the dogs in the stupid fish tanks in the front window were shivering badly. I don't know why this place isn't shut the fuck down?! Come on Great Falls! We visited this pet store not knowing about its notorious reputation. There were sickly puppies with empty water bowls, laying with their heads in their dry bowls. They sell monkeys and have a back room with specialty reptiles (that's not sketchy). After being disgusted at the condition, my husband and I did a quick online search and found that there is even a Facebook group that has been around since 2014 calling for the closing of this inadequate store. Anyway, it gets better. My mother in law, husband and I were walking downtown one Saturday and happened to walk by Jack's. My mother in-law goes "yikes that's a gross looking petshop." I agreed and told her what we had seen and mentioned the Facebook group we had found. Suddenly, quite literally out of no where, a girl who claimed to work there comes up behind us (as we're walking away from the store) and starts ranting about how we're wrong and need to get our facts straight and that they provide the required USDA amount of quality to their animals. After stating that we had seen otherwise she stated that she "works her butt off every week" and was pissed we were insulting the store. She then stormed off (in front of us...not the right way to storm off) and kept turning around to glare at us like an angry child who had been told to go to the corner. She then yelled "stopped talking about me when I'm in front of you!" Ok let's get this straight, you start a confrontation with people who aren't even in your store at the time, then literally run away when you get too mad to function, THEN you don't want us to comment on the ridiculousness that just occurred. So bottom line, poorly run store and psycho employees. What more could you want!? read more

This wasn't that bad it wasnt spotless but it wasn't nasty. All the puppies I saw were in cages and in big fish tanks. I don't see the problem w that they all had water an food they looked healthy an happy. The staff was ok an yes the dogs are over priced! This pet store needs SHUT DOWN! I went in last week and saw animals dying, having babies (which were then promptly being eaten by other animals), puppies in 10/20 FISH TANKS, cats in RABBIT CAGES (about 4-6 per cage), several monkeys with the saddest faces you'll see in a cage MUCH too small. If I could rate this 0 stars I would. They are also extremely dirty! Their fish tanks haven't been cleaned in what appears to be years. These people obviously do NOT care for their animals AT all. They have way more than they can handle, I contacted the ASPCA and will continue to contact other Animal Shelters so that hopefully some of these animals can be saved from these wretched owners. The owner of this place should be in jail for animal cruelty. How this pet store is still open is beyond me! If you can't take care of your business, don't run one! If you can't take care of your animals, don't have any! And people have reported this place. Reviewers like Liz Z. are just plain ignorant. read more

I would like to give it no stars! That place is the most disgusting store I have ever been in! In fact it is probably the worse store in the whole city! Filthy is putting it mild! We went in there during the Christmas stroll. The smell of ammonia was so strong that it took my breath away for a minute. We had to get out of there fast because the strong stench in there was beyond terrible! I can't believe that old lady just sat behind the desk like it was nothing! If they would run a business like that, I can about imagine how they live at home. I felt so bad for the dogs confined to a little small area, laying in their own urine and feces and then their food dish sitting by all that??? I wonder how the owners would like to be in that situation? I cannot believe that business is still open! The health department needs to take a walk through it and shut it down! The city should boycott that place and not spend any money there and do business with more deserving pet store businesses. I have no idea how this place is in operation!!! A complete filth mess!! Clearly every animal in this place just keeps breeding. Poor puppies and kittens with no food or water having spent months in a small box. German shephard pup was at least 4 months old..had no water..was skiddish of anyone that came by since obviously he had spent his life in small viewing box. Seriously the saddest thing I have seen since my deployment to Iraq! Took my daughter there as a fun outing that ended up with her bawling because she couldnt help all the animals there. Great Falls needs a good quality pet store where the owner/managment takes animal health serious, and isn't just trying to sell animals for $...The dust from the animal pen bedding is thick in this store and is never; so it seems, cleaned up or dealt with, and the strong odor is more than just normal animal smells...it's from filth and unclean conditions, and not disenfecting the animal areas DAILY. As a retired vet tech, I am surprised there has'nt been an outbreak of feline or canine disease, and the puppies are clearly from a puppy-mill...more people using animals to make a buck...and I am shocked they sell monkeys. Where do these monkeys come from? And what will be the longterm outcome of these animals life down the road, as owning a monkey is a HUGE responsibility!! I found the staff to be unfriendly, and felt I was putting them out by being there...not an enjoyable experience, a very depressing place. I first visited Jack's in 1980. Sounds like it hasn't changed. I reported it to AC and things were cleaned up a bit, but back slided quickly. If you don't like what you see here, the best thing you can do is to report it. The more it is reported to authorities the more likely something will be done. read more

Everyone seems to think this is a inhumane store. My question for them is if it's so inhumane and cruel why are you not doing anything about it then? It's a smelly place yes but that's what happens when you sell lots of animals. We visit this store once a year whenever we're visiting great falls to see family. They have monkeys in the store but they don't sell them. It's a fun place to take the kids and look at their puppies. But they do care for all the animals and work hard at it. I simply HAD to pet a puppy last Saturday so I took a stroll in after a long time away. WOW what a change in this place! They have clearly taken your reviews to heart because, considering there are about 700 buttholes in the joint, it was spotless. Monkeys appeared to be clean and happy, kitties had a fresh new home, everyone had water and a clean place to rest. I got my puppy fix and then some! What a great place to visit and support. This place needs to be shut down. Just from glancing through the front display windows you can get an idea of what you're in for inside. The dogs are clearly from puppy mills, overpriced and stuck in literal fish tanks. That alone should be enough to put this place in question. So we go inside and the smell hits you immediately. I have pets and understand smell happens, but this was unbearable. We find the kitten section and they're sitting in cages, with no real solid ground for them to even stand on. Not even like plastic covering or something. Just cage. Not to mention they're eyes were runny with fluid and mucus. But that was it, we couldn't go in any further, because of the smell and the fact that we couldn't stand to see these poor animals in the conditions they were in anymore. This place needs to be shut down. I was heartbroken by the terrible condition of the animals and the filthy conditions they are living in. I am a reptile owner and also take in rescues and this is the kind of place I rescue animals from. The reptiles at this store are in filthy tanks with no food or water. The few tanks that did have water bowls were dirty and had feces floating in them. There were snakes living in tanks far too small for their size, other tanks had far too many snakes crowded into them. I also noticed that the majority of these snakes were shedding in pieces, some had several layers of shed stuck on them, as well as stuck eye caps. The lizards had inadequate lighting and heat on nearly every tank. The bearded dragons were seriously underweight, I counted seven dragons crowded into a 20 gallon tank. Every tank had massive amounts of feces in them. I confronted the man who said he was in charge of the reptile room about the condition of these animals. He stated that he hadn't tended to the animals yet that day. The filth I saw had to have taken weeks. I was in tears talking to this man. He never did get up to tend to them. I left the store crying. This is the worst case of abuse and neglect that I have ever seen. I also reported them to the authorities. read more

Went in there today, on a lark. I saw some French Bulldog puppies in a fishtank displayed in their front window and the price was $2500 (about what you would pay from a reputable breeder). Way overpriced as I recently saw some advertised for less than a third ($700) in the Great Falls Tribune. When I called the owner to inquire, he said he recently sold the entire litter. Hmmm, coincidental??? Regardless, this place is a nightmare and should be shut down, in my humble opinion. read more

This place is really a shame. It tends to have a variety of pets to purchase but the quality and atmosphere is disheartening. I have made a LARGE purchase from Jacks just to find out our registered dog has a neurological disorder which makes him no longer qualified to breed. I called Jacks to get information and to see what we could do and was pretty much left in the dark. I just dont feel they are genuine people who care, as long as they are making money. Those bars on the windows and doors are probably from customers or people in general who try to break in to free the animals. :( read more
