    Oh man was that good!

Haven't been here in awhile and then we seen the rib special on facebook and went and got it. Opened the box and they forgot the veggies it was supposed to come with. The ribs are tiny and dry and an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes, wow. Two thumbs down from me.

This was the other nice restaurant we had dinner at while staying in Socorro. We were hungry after a long day of bird photography down at the National Wildlife Refuge. We arrived and were greeted by the hostess who took us to a nice table. Our server soon came to see us and take drink orders. They have a decent enough wine list so we ordered a bottle of the Kendall Jackson which the server brought out promptly and then took our food orders. We had salads that were fresh and tasty and had home made dressings. Steak is the important thing here, so one of us had the ribeye, we also ordered the barramundi and the chicken fried steak. The CFS had a really good creamy gravy over it and the mashed potatoes, fish came with a rice pilaf. Everything we got was top notch, large enough servings but not overwhelming. The interior was bright and cheerful and all decorated for Christmas. They have a real stage coach as you enter the restaurant, really in beautiful condition. The prices are fare considering the good food you get and the drinks from the bar as well as the great service from staff members. We would dine here again based on this visit.

I'm in town for work and I've ate at Jackson Ranch a couple of times. First time I got the brisket and fries. The second time I ordered a New York Strip, medium rare, and loaded baked potato, fully loaded. Both times the food was excellent! The steak was cooked to perfection and the brisket was good. Also, the homemade biscuit that comes out before the meal is delicious. The service was wonderful and attentive. Neither time did I have to ask for refills and the wait for the food was not too long. The ambiance is casual. The stagecoach you see when you first walk in is pretty neat. I'll definitely be back before I go home!

Steak a Claim The brainchild of Executive Chef, owner--and '21 All-American Cowboyfest Chuckwagon Cookoff Champion--Thomas Jackson, the Jackson Ranch Steakhouse has been the preeminent spot to get your beef on in this random corner of New Mexico, since 2018. Their menu features dry-aged steaks, burgers, and other manner of grilled, fried, and smoked bovine. The Good: *Reservations available thru their website *Menu is large but not overly-so as they had a lot of really good options and not too much fluff. *Both sides we tried were excellent. The green chile creamed corn in particular had great flavor and the perfect amount of green chiles. The Brussels Sprouts were also perfectly cooked and had delicious flavors with a nice balance of salty, sweet, and umami. *Local beers on-tap *Three dining rooms w/ one bar area *Friendly service *Love the old-timey cowboy décor and vibe *Carissa's barramundi was cooked well and had good flavor. The Meh: *Buttermilk biscuits were delicious but served cold. They would've been much, much better warm. The Ugly: *I ordered a rib-eye steak, but I'm 98% sure they ended up giving me a New York strip instead. Which, nothing against a NY strip, but there's $9 difference between them... With that said, it was cooked perfectly, and the flavor was pretty good overall, but not much to write home about. TLDR: Despite the possible steak snafu, our meal here at Jackson Ranch was quite enjoyable overall, and we'd definitely come back on our next visit to Socorro.

    Undercooked steak

Went there for dinner tonight. Of our party of six, five steaks were sent back for being undercooked. One in our party ended up vomiting at the table and outside . Hopefully he pulls through in the morning.

Nice place with good service; basic food nothing to write home about. Only wine & beer.

The atmosphere here is great! Wow! An entire stage coach in the front area. It opens close to noon and the staff is so so. They do check on you and the food does take forever. I have to say the food is really good and the portions are not small but not to big. I had the tomato soup and it has a kick to it, maybe added some chili, but it is good. The place is clean and I think the map on the wall is amazing! I keep looking at it. Green chili bacon hamburger is the bomb and I must say I have never had such awesome fries, they are bbq fries!

There was a decent crowd in the restaurant for the lunch rush, and all signs indicated that this place would be solid. Once we were seated, and I had a chance to scan the menu, I quickly landed on the stuffed sopaipillas since I had never had that particular dish before. It's a beautiful place with a nice dining room and bar area. The menu has just enough to choose from that anyone should be able to pick something they would like. Nothing is too fussy and the prices are decent for a steakhouse in a small mountain town that depends a lot on tourism. I have been there for lunch, for dinner, by myself and with friends - probably over a dozen times over several years. Not once have I walked away feeling like I had a great experience. The service is usually decent but the servers always seem way more interested in chatting with each other or hanging out with other employees. On more than one occasion I've heard them complain about other customers or getting another table as more customers come in the door. The food is generally okay but nothing special. It's not a complicated menu but you can order the same thing more than once and who knows how it will show up to the table. Over or under cooked, way over seasoned or missing ingredients listed on the menu - this has happened to me several times. Walking into the restaurant you are rarely greeted by someone right away. It takes a while for anyone to notice you and then if someone does it's usually a busy server or someone who doesn't look like they work there. Today I was greeted by someone who was dressed like they were cleaning out their garage. Several times I've been seated at the only clean table in the room. By the time I've left, the tables have all been dirty and no one has touched them during my entire meal. A table was only cleaned if it was needed for someone else coming in. It's a really bad impression. Something needs to be done to isolate the kitchen from the front of the house. You can hear the kitchen staff yelling, cursing and playing loud heavy metal music throughout the dining room and bar. During meals I have learned a lot about the personal lives of the staff and not because I wanted to. All of these things are fixable. I keep going back because I'll hear that there is a new manager or a new chef but it seems like nothing ever really changes and it's a shame.

I had spoken with The Ranchers restaurant for several weeks prior to Thanksgiving 2025, setting up a reservation for a party of 12, and I even provided editing feedback on their menu graphic. The restaurant gave me the time slot for 2:30pm. I was so excited, as my family traveled from out of state to Ruidoso for Thanksgiving, and having everyone together to share a traditional family Thanksgiving meal was very important to us. The traditional Thanksgiving meal was publicly listed and is included in the photo: Upon arrival, the waitress informed us that they were out of Ham. Then, cranberries. Then, not enough pecan pie. I politely asked if they were going to provide a substitution for the items that were unavailable and they said no. So, I then asked if they were going to provide a discount from the rate, as they were failing to provide what was listed for the price. Once again, the manager told the waitress to tell me no. I said, that's really disappointing to hear and that's poor customer service. The waitress then said to me, "Well, we close in 30 minutes and it's been a busy day," as if it were MY fault that they ran out of food and insinuated we were late. I said, "No, that's an unacceptable response. I was given this time as a reservation weeks ago. There should have been enough food for my family. All these people didn't have reservations. It's not like we came 30 minutes before closing. And you shouldn't be charging full price for a meal that isn't complete." 7 people in my family ordered the traditional turkey meal. One didn't receive stuffing. Bread was late. No cranberry. No ham. Charged full price. I went back to the Facebook message where I had been communicating with the restaurant and they said the Manager would call me and offer compensation for the meals that were charged. He never called. Unethical. Inconsiderate. Taking advantage of people. Thumbs down.
