My family has been coming here for decades and this place is a Socorro institution. The food has never been great, and sometimes the service is absent. But in Socorro there are few options. It will be a local hangout regardless of my review. My dear friends at Sofia's, up your game a bit. Chile is plentiful, and from Lemitar next door. Use it don't dilute it. Sopapillas are my favorite and they make NM cuisine extra special. I am finding yours to be stale and really greasy. They used to be delicious. Find those again. This is the second time I have stopped while traveling through Socorro to have breakfast. Both times, the waitress has not stopped at my table within the first 10 minutes. Went to Sofias for breakfast this morning and had a huge delicious double breakfast burrito plate smothered Christmas style! The service was great as well. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere early in the morning is a great way to start the day! I don't eat here that often anymore but when I do it's always delicious. Food is just average, but there aren'y many options in Socorro. Greeter was very friendly and professional.

We stopped in here for lunch last week while staying in Socorro. First of all, the hours posted here that they are open are technically correct but right now they stop indoor dining after lunch at 1 pm. After that they only serve at the drive thru window for take home orders. They are centrally located and easy to find, just off of California Street. They have a large parking lot and when we walked in were greeted by the folks at the cash register and they said to sit anywhere we liked. The interior is brightly lit and the walls are covered with colorful murals of scenes from around Socorro, such as the Bosque del Apache WLR, the local Catholic church and even the Large Array radio telescopes just over the mountain. We had spent the morning down at the Bosque taking pictures of the birds so we had not had breakfast so this was sort of brunch for us. We placed our orders and in a few minutes plates covered with lovely New Mexico style Mexican food came out. We had burritos and enchiladas, they came with very good Spanish rice and refried beans. They also brought out fresh sopapillas that were light an airy. Soon, our tummies were full so we got up and paid at the register. I recommend you try Sofia's Kitchen when in Socorro, you will be pleased with it I am sure! read more

First time to visit this restaurant. We were in Socorro for an appointment, so we stopped in to grab breakfast. It was quite busy but we were seated almost immediately. It was loud in the restaurant but tables were separated for the most part at a nice distance. It took a few minutes for the waitress to get to us to take our drink order. Took a minute overall for food and drinks to come out... but they were slammed... considering it was so busy our waitress remained friendly and kind. Our food was brought out hot and was delicious. I was craving pancakes but also wanted something warm and comforting. Decided on some posole and my goodness... it was fantastic! My husband enjoyed his omelette and my son also loved his biscuits and gravy. Overall if we're back in the area I would most definitely consider returning! read more

First off we had to fight for a table because they don't have a list to put names on. Second, we had to get our own menus 20 minutes later. Was in town for some training and decided to stop here for some lunch. Came in about noon and it wasn't busy at all. Friendly staff, seat yourself. Ordered the chili relleno with green sauce. It came with rice and beans. The rice and beans were fine. Everything was covered in cheese which actuallymay not really be needed. The chili rellenos left something to be desired. Hometown family type restaurant. Good amount of options on the menu with all day breakfast items. Food was good. Hubby had huevos rancheros with green sauce. He said that the dish was really tasty with just enough spice/kick. I had steak and eggs, I should have ordered it medium well instead of well but it was good. Hubby also tried the menudo, he liked it, said that didn't need to doctor it up. Appreciated the small bits in the bowl. Finished off the meal with pancakes, yummy. Upon walking in it's cleaned sitting at the table you could see that the table was clean. Quickly a young man come gave us menus and took our drink orders. Ours drinks came quickly. Service was great. The avocado and chips were needing salt. Our plates came the rice was mushy no seasoning. I had the 3 taco plate no seasoning, beans tasted like came from a can; rice mushy. This place seems like the go to place for locals. The staff were friendly and helpful and it seemed a family owned business. We got the Sunday brunch buffet option. The buffet had lots of options including doughnuts, biscuits and gravy, mashed potatos, fish, chicken cordonbleu, vegetables, hash browns and even more. A very comprehensive comprehensive selection. There are lots of nice murals all over the wall too. The food was pretty good and the decor seemed a bit dated but overall it was a pleasant dining experience. read more

Great local eatery. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros with both red and green chili, "Christmas!" They came with beans and what looked like hash brown type potatoes. The chili was excellent! Server was attentive enough and food came out at an acceptable pace. Per severs suggestion ordered a beef-onion-mushroom sopapilla. It was ok. Shredded beef could've had more marinated seasoned and could've been more tender, but it was still good. The flaky dough was really good. Tried both the green and red sauce-both ok, nothing spectacular. Reviews suggested the green is hot-I didn't notice. The rice was red and more like Spanish rice than my experiences of typical Mexican rice. But I'm not a Mexican food connoisseur so it may hail from a region and actually be typical Place could use a good cleaning: dust and cobwebs on walls and ceilings. Mini blinds/ I wasn't sure if they were painted or dirty or both. This place has what it takes! At least as far as breakfast burritos go! My mom worked here as a kid so I ate their food very often. We used to joke that Sofias kitchen had the best food in town... maybe it wasn't a joke. I wanted to go back for another taste of the breakfast burritos I grew up on so when I was passing through one morning, I knew just the place to stop. We called in our food because we still has a long drive ahead of us. They were nice on the phone and helpful when we picked up too! We called about 6 minutes out and they already had them ready for us when we got there! Plus, two burritos were $6! The verdict, these burritos are still one of my favorites for breakfast! The chile was so good and the bacon was perfect! I can't really vouch for other meals here but even at 6:30am, there were people sitting down eating!
