I was given fluoroquinolones (Cipro and Levaquin) IV. By day 3 I could not see. Everything was blurry. It did not go away. I decided to see Dr. Boname because she was nearby where I was hospitalized. I liked her immediately because she did not try to defend the medical system the way many practitioners do even when they've clearly erred. She said those kinds of fluoroquinolone antibiotics damage the retina. You'll need glasses now. Any time I have met with her or been cared for by her, I have felt that I'm being cared for by family that has a special interest in me. She doesn't just care about the two eyes in our face because she knows many serious conditions show up in the eyes first....diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc. She knows there are no fences in the body and the body is a whole system that works synergistically together. She takes into consideration genetics and their support, what I consider the "laser approach" to personalized medicine. I know I will get the best care from here which is why I have driven from Rhode Island to her office outside of Princeton, NJ for many years.

I am thankful not only for her care for me but as well as my Dad when he needed cataract surgery. Ben - who runs the eyeglass/contact side of the business - is one of the nicest, knowledgeable professionals I have met. He provides quality frames and lenses. He provides clear information about lenses and has a good eye in picking frames to suit your face. I am a bit clumsy and needed frequent adjustment to my frames - to the point I felt guilty coming In so often- but am always reassured it is no problem and come back anytime. I had a vision plan but didn't know much and the office staff helped me find my coverage and optimize my glasses based on my plan. For glasses, the office had a nice selection of frames and helped guide me through the process (I had not had Rx glasses before). Location was nice because they have a little parking lot which means you don't have to search for a spot and pay a meter like most places in Somerville. Highly recommend.

I won't go into great detail, but I've had a medical condition for the past month that has…read moreprevented me from driving. One of my requirements from the NJMVC to reacquire my drivers license is to provide them with results from a vision test. I don't use my glasses currently and I'm not required by the state to wear them while driving. I called SFE on Wednesday (5/8/19) to obtain the strength of my last prescription glasses so that I can replace my old and scratched lenses in order to properly perform my vision test. After filling out my release form, I dropped it off in person (as I was not allowed to fax or email it over). As I dropped it off (since I currently do not have the ability to drive) I requested from Wendi, the receptionist, that she please call me when the records are completed so I could coordinate with someone for a ride over to pick them up. She confirmed this by reading my phone number from my file out loud to me to check that it was still the same. Yesterday (5/9/19), I called the office around 4:45 PM to see why I haven't received a call to see if my documents were ready as I was promised. I was told in a very condescending tone that "they've been here waiting since 2:00 PM." When I asked over the phone why I didn't receive a phone call, I got a song and a dance about how "I never asked for a phone call". You literally read my number out loud to me. I'm not allowed to drive. Why would I lie about asking for a phone call? Not my fault she's unorganized and didn't write anything down. When I mentioned that I'm not trying to argue about this over the phone, again, I got a condescending tone of "well, they're here now". Nice. I have 45 days to submit all of my tests to the NJMVC, so I had no choice but to find a ride for this day. Once I walked in, without saying a word, I was handed an envelope with all of my personal medical records. No identification was asked for, no date of birth, nothing. She just assumed I was the correct person picking up my documents. HUGE HIPAA VIOLATION!! I said "that's it?" She said "yup." Unfortunately, my girlfriend was present for all of my recent trips and had to witness all of this first-hand...but on we go with our lives. Thank you Somerville Family Eyecare for all of the hard work and effort you've put into running your practice. I appreciate what you've been able to do to correct my vision over the past 12 years. Unfortunately, I'm not going to allow my records to be in the hands of someone so careless that they just hand them out to anyone that just walks in the front door. Oh, and I also don't appreciate the nasty attitude from Wendi. I was originally going to see if SFE could provide my vision test since I now have vision insurance for the first time in 4 years, but I think I'd prefer to go anywhere else.

Apparently when they adjusted my glasses, it made the frame more fragile and more prone to…read morebreaking, so my frame snapped just a few days after they made the adjustment. Of course my frame was already out of warranty and I ended up having to get another pair. This frame alone costed me $350. Also when I asked for a copy of my contact lenses prescription, they refused to give it to me. Yes I know it's been 2 years since the eye exam but it is my right to have the prescription for myself just for references. They were afraid I might try to get contact lenses elsewhere for cheaper price, therefore refused to give me a copy. Again, it is my right to have a copy whether it's expired or not. After all, I paid for the services.

He also was able to diagnose a glaucoma issue my grandma had had for years, but her prior eye doctor never caught it. Dr. Newheiser found it right away. My family and I have been coming here since we were in elementary school and will continue to keep coming back to Allied vision for years to come.

On top of that they are not allowing me to get one earlier and have not followed up with insurance company to assert that the fault is theirs. Also-know your insurance! They will bill you for items your insurance should cover and tell you you are wrong when you question them. After bringing proof they refused to give money back and put as a credit on account(now  I can't change dr's without losing more money). Terrible service, have gone here for a while but it has deteriorated and the treatment this last year is beyond atrocious. I am losing insurance due to my job and because of this office I won't have what I need that I should have had covered 5 months ago. The staff was very helpful and nice- and setting up my follow up was a breeze, even though they had to squeeze me in before my vacation. The office was clean and comfortable. Usually a Doctor's office can be cold but it was a warm and friendly feeling. Dr Miglani was extremely meticulous and thorough with answering all my questions and helped me get the right prescription! I had so many questions & he answered them all with ease. The space was so cute & chic, reminded me of businesses in New York. My daughter had an eye exam & all the latest tech was used & explained.
