If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. This was one of the most unprofessional, poorly organized, and frustrating moving experiences I have ever had. I have hired movers in the past who were professional, efficient, prepared, and careful with my belongings. This company was the complete opposite. Patty personally did a walkthrough of my home one week before the move, so she knew exactly what she was being hired to do. We had an agreement that her company would pack and move my upstairs, my bedroom, and my garage, while I would handle the rest. I also personally moved my bed, kitchen table, living room furniture, and all of my grills before they even got started. Despite that, I still ended up having to help them pack while I was there with them. I hired movers specifically because I needed help with this move, not because I wanted to spend the day doing the work alongside them. Patty was also aware of my health issues and the reason I needed to hire movers in the first place. Unfortunately, this move was so poorly handled that the physical demands and stress of it set my health back. I should never have been put in the position of having to do this much of the work myself after hiring a company to handle it. I was given a 2-3 hour timeframe. Instead, the move took approximately 10 hours to finally complete. Despite having walked through the house a week beforehand, they showed up without an appliance dolly, even though they knew they were moving my washer and dryer. They didn't even have a packing tape gun. For a moving company, showing up without basic equipment needed for a job they had already inspected is simply unacceptable. The first movers were young and clearly inexperienced. One of the boys lost control of the dolly/cart and sent boxes into my yard. My belongings were damaged. I also found cigarette butts left on a shelf in my living room. The truck was packed so poorly that another mover actually commented on how incorrectly it had been packed. My safe was transported laying on its side, and the shelving inside the safe was destroyed. Then, while the move was still underway, one of the boys mentioned that Patty had somewhere she needed to be at 5:00. Around 4:30, one of the boys suddenly had an "emergency," and they left. Patty offered to put the truck into her shop and resume the move later. I said no. I expected her to find and recruit people who could unload my belongings that night. Instead, I was told they couldn't resume unloading until 7:00 PM. Eventually, unloading resumed with one mover alone for approximately an hour. Then three additional men were brought in from over an hour away to help finish. I had not been informed ahead of time that additional people would be coming. And then there was the issue of what they actually moved. The mover repeatedly complained that she was "only there to move my clothes." Yet when I had to go back through my belongings afterward, my clothes were left behind. The company failed to remove so much of my property that I had to recruit people myself the following day to finish getting my belongings out of my home. I ended up packing and moving more of my own belongings than the moving company did. Think about that. I hired a moving company, had already moved my bed, kitchen table, living room furniture, and all of my grills myself, helped their crew pack, and still had to find my own people the next day to finish getting my belongings out. And after all of that, the billing became another issue. The invoice was changed multiple times, and the explanations for the charges changed as well. I've had movers in the past who made moving day easier. This company made it dramatically harder. A professional moving company should arrive prepared, bring the proper equipment, have enough competent people to do the job, handle belongings with care, complete the work they agreed to perform, and respect the customer's time and circumstances. Instead, I spent 10 hours dealing with an incredibly disorganized move, had my belongings damaged, had to help pack, had to do substantial moving myself, had belongings left behind, and then had to recruit my own people the next day to finish the job. This move was physically and emotionally exhausting, and it set my health back. I hired this company because I needed professional help. I did not hire them so that I could end up doing much of the work myself and then spend the following day finding people to finish what they failed to do. I would never use this company again. If you are considering hiring them, I strongly recommend you think very carefully before trusting them with your home, your belongings, or your time. This review is an update of my review of Jacobson's Moving and Storage posted on January 20, 2025 and is in response to Pati J.'s response posted on April 4, 2025. The response from Jacobson's is filled with inaccuracies. Accommodating the lift chair was an option offered to Jacobson's for their men to move items before the lift chair was installed in the new home to make it easier for them. The offer was accepted by Patii because she acknowledged that it was to their advantage. As such, there was no discussion of an increase in time and cost. As far as not providing the second truck as agreed upon, the one truck we had was a rental because the moving crew said that their trucks were not maintained well. The pool table was partially disassembled by me with no detail as to how much additional disassembly was needed prior to the move. Since Pati advised me on the day of the move that they were not moving the pool table, there was no need for additional disassembly. The pool table was eventually moved by another company without any additional disassembly. The crew began loading shortly after they arrived. There was no mention by anyone at Jacobson's related to the house not being ready. When I questioned the excessive charge after the move was complete Pati made no mention of any delay and commented that the extra charge was due to "a few little things were added" with no more detail available. There was no reference to any delay or mention of any pictures. One of my mistakes was to unwisely pay the bill prior to the resolution of any issues including the overcharging and the items damaged in the move. I will not make that mistake again! Our move was in November, and I delayed my review until January to allow sufficient time for Jacobson's to respond to my damaged items request. Pati and I communicated frequently both before and during the move via phone and email. I contacted Pati while the moving crew was still at our home to advise her of the damage and that the crew was aware of the damage. She responded that she would be out the following week, but she never showed up. I phoned and emailed my concern about various aspects of the move. There is no record of any attempt to contact me by any means afterwards. They also know where to easily find me in person. Jacobsen can make any response they desire. I stand by my review and advise potential customers to also take note of the many other one-star reviews and come to their own conclusion. read more

This company is run by thieves who own a truck. Pati quoted us a reasonable price after a walkthrough and so we booked with them. Their movers showed up late and didn't coordinate with each other and so they sat around waiting on the clock. Despite packing and moving things myself, despite dropping most of the stuff off in the garage and us having to move it in the house ourselves, they still overcharged by 50% of the high end of the quote. They knocked off pennies on their boxes and tape (which are charged many times the going rate for supplies) as an added insult. Once they stuck us with the bill the movers said they figured the quote was too low as soon as they walked in the door. I called back to give them a chance to respond. They asked what would make things right and I told them all it would take would be to honor their quote. Pati said she'd ask the movers and wanted nothing to do with taking responsibility for the quote. She emailed back and said there was a family emergency. Contact me if you need something sooner. *** Update: Soooo, I forgot I had even posted the review of this horrible company until I got a response today 7/2/2020 about a move I did on January 20th of 2018. I guess I had more important things to do. How did these 'clowns' respond? They stated they didn't move me. Okay. That is a LIE! Please see the pictures, liars. I can't figure out how to respond to their reply, so I'll just edit my review. First these guys said they could move a gun safe. Long story short, they couldn't. They were unprofessional and unqualified from the start. The safe ended up face down because it was too heavy even though they were informed of the safe we'll ahead of time. They did not use proper moving equipment and relied on these poor college aged kids to just deal with it. I also lost a solid oak desk because they couldn't get it down the stairs. And a mirror was broken. At the end of the day they called some kids and their dad to try to get the safe out of the alley and into a garage. Ideally it should have gone in the basement but these folks couldn't do the job they were hired for. So I reluctantly paid them and hoped they'd just go out of business. Trying to get any thing rectified was like pulling teeth and dealing with rabid dogs. I guess they are still at it (it only took them 2 and a half years to respond...with lies). I would have let this slide had I not seen a lie posted. Pathetic. DO NOT USE! Instead... I totally love "LA CROSSE MOVERS". Google them and use them. You'll be so better off. We probably use Jacobson's Moving & Storage about three times each year, and had I been giving them ratings for all moves, it would CONSISTENTLY be FIVE STARS. From the very first phone call to get the ball rolling, we are greeted with enthusiasm, positivity and great customer service. Then, once the ball is in play, we couldn't be happier with the quality of service that we receive from the actual movers; the guys are beyond professional, take great care with moving our "stuff" and have the best attitude ... whether it's 95 degrees and humid, or below zero temperatures, we have the same, consistent and courteous crew that takes pride in their work, and developing our relationship. We wouldn't think of trusting our posessions and moves with anyone else but Jacobson's. Thank you! read more

Of course mistakes are made and things happen during moves, but ethical companies would admit those faults and make them right as opposed to the awful comments this place is making against their paying customers. I've seen some of the negative comments out there and just wanted to say after my move they get a perfect score from me! So I called many places in preparation for our move which happened the day before thanksgiving this year. Everyone was friendly and professional, and they came and completed a walkthrough to give us an accurate estimate. When the move happened, three friendly and efficient young men moved all of our things for us. They took great care with everything (blankets wraps around wood and plastic over all of our furniture) and nothing was scratched, broken or even dirty after they were done unloading. I will definitely hire Jacobson's Moving in the future, and I hope others do, too. read more

Super poor service! Broke my prized brass lamp, failed to notify me right away. Only finally admitted it when faced with overwhelming evidence. (This was after 3 days!) Initially then promised to "do the right thing" but once it was determined it could not be fixed, they welched on paying for an exact replacement. Only because "It was to expensive". Geeze! Not cool! They kept telling me they have been in business for 50 years and "this has NEVER happened!" Yeah right! To make matters worse they don't protect with proper insurance. Literally it is MOVER BE WARE!! I was very disappointed with Jacobson's. The two-day estimated move became 3 days even with two afternoons of guys helping pack. In the afternoon of the 2nd and supposedly last moving day young Tyler made an executive decision that we should finish the move the following day. It was inconvenient for me but I went along with it. Then Tyler never showed up that next day because he wanted to go to a birthday party! Josh was sent on his own and he was amazing but it was not a one-man moving day by any means. Plus the truck broke down and he was delayed for 4 hours while I waited at home to complete the move. The move didn't end until late that evening. The next day I discovered two large chips out of my master bedroom dresser, I smashed lamp that was part of a pair for my living room. I'm missing lampshade from a special lamp, and a crack in a table. After numerous calls to Patty she never responded or gave me any apology or anything! Josh actually came over on his own with a replacement lamp shade and some glue to try to repair my dresser. He was amazing! But I would not recommend the use the company at all. read more

I called Jacobson moving and storage in late April asking about climate controlled storage. It was explained that they climate control the stored the goods in "crates" at a rate of 39/month. I asked how much it would be to have movers come pack and move my things into storage given the quote of $94.5/hr. I thought this was a reasonable rate and set a move date of May 27. The company starts your time when the movers write down that they "start your job" getting materials in the truck, driving over, inspecting the apartment then came the packing. I had 2 movers show up; they came with new boxes, packing tape, and old packing paper crumpled up in a box. So for about a half hour the movers and I sat there and charged me while we uncrumpled this packing paper instead of showing up with new packs to do this job. Upon uncrumpling and using all this paper they discovered they were unprepared and did not have any more paper available! Surprise! We have to go back to the shop and get some. Tick tock the clock is still charging away at 94.5/hr while they go get supplies that should have been there in the first place. After 45 minutes to an hour while the one mover returned to the shop the second mover and I waited in my apartment for his arrival... more lost productivity. Finally what should have been a 2-3 hour job was done in 5 hours. I received a call from the office asking how it went and I voiced my displeasure over the ill-preparedness and lack of urgency to complete a time sensitive job. After implying that I was lying and asking the lead mover what had happened the main office grudgingly took a half hour off the bill and informed me that the bill for storage and crating fee would be sent to me later. I never received an invoice for the packing and move portion of this endeavor and the charge for 4.5 hours was applied to my credit card. Fast forward to July 16, 2014, I FINALLY received an invoice for the storage. July 16, 50 days after moving and what did I discover? It took 3 crates ($117/month crate fee) and 1 of my two couches went into an overstock area with an additional 17 dollar fee. The crates must be 7x10x3 because after fitting all my goods, besides my new couch, in a 5x5x10 storage unit I was in disbelief. Also had the company communicated this information in a timely manner I could have taken custody of some of the goods keeping cost down. I called on August 5 to arrange a move date as soon as possible in August and the earliest they could accommodate me was August 20. August 14 at noon I receive a phone call from Jacobson moving asking if they could deliver my household goods in 2 hours. I was at work and asked my boss if I could take off early to receive my goods. I took off work early and they arrived at 237. The truck was unloaded and inventory was taken quickly by the movers with an end time at 324. I noticed several of the boxes were ripped or severely stressed nor were my mattresses or box spring even in boxes as specifically requested and agreed to and had something rubbing on them leaving marks. The movers said "That as long as it wasn't damaged and the electronics still work the company doesn't care". I also noticed that the six couch cushions were pulled out stored separate from the shrink wrapped couches! The only justification would be to take up more crate space. The movers handed me an invoice for the storage fees, nothing had been charged on a monthly basis like what had been discussed and an invoice for the mover's time that day was handed over to me too. They started the clock at 1p and arrived at 237p unloaded at 324p and charged me until 345p. They said both invoices were due immediately and called the office who demanded a credit card for payment vice sending a bill later. I had just accommodated the company with a two hour notice but no price adjustments or any accommodations for their customer were made, Customer service was tremendously lacking. By this point I honestly just wanted to be finished with the company and I accepted the charges. In summary, I would NEVER hire Jacobson moving again for the following reasons: 1. They did not provide or offer an in home inspection only asking estimate my household goods 2. They came unprepared for the move itself 3. The movers lacked any sense of urgency on both ends 4. The office was very vague and unprofessional 5. The charging procedure is questionable at best 6. Customer service was sorely lacking, clearly not a priority. I just hope that while I unpack and set up my new apartment I find nothing got damaged and my electronics work. After 4 cross country moves while in the Navy this 2.4 mile one was the most stressful, expensive per mile ($1,032 total), and most unprofessional I have ever had. I strongly recommend searching for another company or packing & renting a U-Haul privately before using Jacobson moving. read more

Very dishonest company.DO NOT USE EVER For 25 years, I have hired packing companies nationwide to pack phones, computers, etc for my customers. This is the worst experience and most dishonest company I have dealt with. Hired them to pick up 200 phones/bases. They charged me 18 man hours,1080 minutes to bubble wrap and pack them = 5.4 minutes per unit. Should take 30 to 60 seconds per unit. A professional moving company would never take 5.4 minutes to bubble wrap and pack a standard office telephone. Text me for more details 319-538-3317. Brian Mores lies from this packing company. We gave them information to pick up. The shipper changed the information and Jacobsons did not ever ever ever notice us that their original quote had changed. They lied when they charged us for 8 man hours. They charged us 18 hours and a total of $798.75 of labor to pack the boxes. I will share invoice if you want it. Take any phone and add a base to it, bubble wrap it and put in a box, how long does that take? I have reached out with the olive branch to resolve this with Patti, but no response. As you can see from her last update she wrote she charged $893 dollars total for 8.5 hours of work = $105 per hour labor rate. Do you think that is high? Why would you pay $105 per hour to pack office phones? They do not know how to calculate their hourly rate. Very dishonest or incompetent. They call me dishonest, I paid the entire bill thinking we could work out the hour rate. They have not budged at all. Please re read what they think a man hour is. When they send 2 men for 1 hour = 2 total hours of work, Jacobson's count this as only 1 hour.. SO dumb read more

We hired Jacobsons back in October and the guys that were on the job were very nice and SEEMED to do a good job. My husband's parents used to own a moving company and he worked for them for years so he knows what he is doing but w a bad back and being on a time crunch we hired movers. They broke pur custom made headboard, a shelf in my daughter's room the my husband made a put a med sized to larger scratch okin the side of our entertainment center! They did break a shelving unit that I had from target but I told them that it wasn't a big deal bc we were gonna get rid of it anyway. Now, w that being said and how frustrating that is, the thing that pissed us off the most is that they didn't tell us they broke my daughter's shelf so we of course found it as we are trying to put things up in our new house! We saw the headboard fall over in the truck so they couldn't deny that and in the moment we didn't think there was as much damage as there was until looking @ it later. I called them to tell them and I was told that they send someone to your house and look @ it and then take it back to their shop to have it repaired and I told them that for the headboard in particular that is a major inconvenience forbid bc this thing is HUGE and heavy and the bed had to b taken apart in order for them to do it and to b completely honest I'm really not comfortable with them moving it AGAIN! To make things even worse I've spoken w Tylor a few times and left emails and they have never ever gotten back to me or even acknowledged that they even received the pictures in the emails etc. All I get is that they will get back to us and figure out what works best and that is the last I hear from them until I call them AGAIN!.....and btw when my husband's parents had their business he said in all those years they only broke 1 thing(a pool table light) and they paid them for it!! Jacobsons clearly could take a lesson from them! I wouldn't recommended them to anybody!....oh also, the best part of this was my husband and I thought they did a good job so we tipped them $100.00....boy was that a mistake!! read more

Worst moving experience of my life. Witnessed the movers throw our stuff in and out of the van- one of the guys on the truck was frustrated that the newer college aged guys weren't bringing things to him in the right order. Afraid to say anything at that time because they were going to be storing our stuff for two months and then moving it to another state. When we finally received our things in our new home we found many broken things including two mirrors, pottery and a nightstand. In particular unclear how the nightstand broke given that it was wrapped in plastic wrap but somehow a hole was punched in the top of it. The driver that brought our things to our new home reported that our things were strewn about on the loading dock with heavy things sitting on top of plastic storage boxes (which makes sense given the state of the plastic storage boxes when they arrived- most broken) and boxes on top of the mirrors that were later found to be broken. I reported this to Allied (who had contracted from NAVL) as well as to Patty, our contact with Jacobson's. Patty's only response was to call Allied and take no blame. I filed a complaint with Allied and hope that they respond to Jacobson's though the customer service rep at Allied said that it was unlikely that Jacobson's would have any ill effect as an independent company. Too bad. Looks like I'm not the only one with a bad experience. (Events occurred from 5/2015-8/2015). read more
