Then on Thursday i ask about buying the container of 4 salads and the manager tells me the price is $8.99 a pound so buying more will not save me any money. So i buy two salads. On Friday i go back to buy another salad only to be informed that the price is not $8.99 a pound but the smallest container is $6.20. When i explain what i was told the previous day, they treat me like i don't know what i am talking about. I will now shop at a store that has more consistent pricing policies.

I got frustrated and had to ask her to stop as she was destroying my bread. If you're going to force me to go to a cashier, maybe make sure they have patience. Otherwise let me bag my own stuff in piece at a self checkout. They had most of what I wanted but not all, it is great for bread, pantry items etc, but always double check your meat and veggies for mold/funk 50/50 on getting good service from a cashier lol. Here in Ottawa though, the amount of Food Basics stores greatly outnumber those of No Frills. Not all locations are equal. The Food Basics in Stittsville is much nicer than this Food Basics in Hampton Plaza. This one is a bit dirtier and the people here are a bit saltier, lol. My work colleague told me that she once sent her husband to this Food Basics to pick up something for her and when he got home he said to her "please don't ever send me there again!" Lol. I don't think it's that bad. I go there when there are sales. I also go there to poke around when I'm waiting for my pizza at Domino's, which is in the same plaza, haha. It's a discount grocery store with fairly good regular prices and really great sales. Not the nicest in terms of appearance or clientele, but hey, you win some you lose some. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

They do have a clearance section towards the back of the store, but most of the stuff there was actually past its best before date. If you love gourmet stinky cheeses, they had lots! As for me, I'll just stick to brie, harvati and other benign to the nose cheeses thank you very much ;) Fun store to poke around. Lots of free parking.

I'm a knitter!) and one of those stoneware cookie molds which came with a recipe. This was on sale at a good price; I've seen it at double that elsewhere in the city. Did you know that there's a difference in the mechanisms of a pepper and salt mills? Apparently the salt can rust and corrode a pepper mill, and the pepper is too hard for a salt mill. Whodathunk?! I actually went in looking for coffee pots. The ones we have at work have been seriously used and abused. I'm also feeling the need for an espresso or latté machine, and was hoping I might find one of those nifty combo things here. Turns out that the design I'm thinking of is a bit passé. Too bad for me! However, the good coffee makers they have here are too good for work (read: expensive), and could almost be professional, like for coffee shops. So, I will have to keep shopping. Yum. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. An older man..I did not get his name... Stocky balding guy.. Left his stock cart in the middle of an aisle and I did not see it. I accidentally bumped my cart into out and he started reading me the riot act. I said his cart was blocking the aisle and I didn't see it. He kept going on and on .. How abort not leaving it where it would be a hazard, for starters? Also, how about if you leave your attitude at home, and be civil to the customers who shop here... The cashier was pretty rude too. I guess to have low prices you need to treat your customers like garbage.

It really wasn't an attractive looking place to shop! They recently closed and spent a few weeks on renovating and have reopened as a Fresh Co. The selections are so much better here now. There are a lot more ethnic items available, which is suitable to the area. So far, the produce and meat seem to be very fresh and the prices seem to have stayed low. The new staff seem enthusiastic and friendly, even if they are still getting used to the job. Overall the whole store is much more attractive!
