We love eating here. There is a wide variety of food in the buffet and it's kept quite fresh. All of the staff is wonderful and they provide excellent service. The overall aesthetic is really relaxing as well. Definitely a new favorite for an Asian buffet! Wasn't sure if this place was reopened from previously or had new owners but the buffet is much the same as it used to be. Food was decent, most of it was hot. The rice of the sushi was somewhat dry but I did enjoy the crab rangoons, fried donuts with sugar, and other chicken or beef dishes from the line. Hibachi section was available but you had to ask to have someone come out and do it for you, no one was standing there just waiting to cook up your bowl. From the previous buffet I wish they still had directions/suggestions of how to make different sauces at the hibachi bar to help make a more tasty and flavorful dish read more

Ate here twice so far, once mid-week, and once on a Saturday evening...our meals both times were fresh and tasted great. This place has done a complete 180 degree change from when it used to be the Mongolian Grill. We were totally surprised at the quality of the food, and the service compared to previous. I had one bite of a few things on my plate and it wasn't good. I told them that I still had a full plate of food and didn't drink anything and they still charged me for the full meal and drink. The lady snatched my card out of my hand and swiped it before I could even say anything. read more

This restaurant was previously MongolianBuffet, and has reopened in the last month or so. I didn't know what to expect when we went in. I'm glad we did. They had a nice variety of Asian dishes, salad bar, dessert bar, appetizer bar, soups and sushi. They also had raw foods for the grill, but I didn't see anyone there to do the cooking and found plenty of foods I liked to eat, so I don't know how well that works. For weekend meal, it was $17 plus tax for adults and the soda pop is another $2.50 for EACH FILL. No, the drinks do not come with the buffet price and if you want refills, you're going to pay for each one. Otherwise, it was a good experience. I'll likely go back when I get the chance. Looks to have taken over from a Mongolian grill recently, as there are signs of a grand opening. Inside was clean and organized and did indeed have an open top grill with fresh ingredients you'd find at a Mongolian grill. While I was there for lunch and while there were meats and vegetables set out, I never saw a chef stationed there nor anyone gather up ingredients to get something cooked. There is a sushi station with a handful of generic rolls, but the main feature was 4-5 aisles of standard Chinese buffet foods, including cold items and desserts. Food for the most part was pretty good and it did look like they were replenishing items with some frequency. Service was fine, everyone was pretty friendly and quick to gather up empty dishes. My favorite items were the chicken skewers, the mixed vegetables, and the peanut chicken. Lunch was $13 and change after tax. Nothing super special but good enough that I'd come back. read more

Ames has a decent Chinese buffet again! The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean. The food was plentiful and tasty and it was the hottest buffet food we've ever had. The restroom could have used a little attention. It wasn't dirty by any means, just a little messy. read more

Came from Wisconsin to help nephew move to western Iowa. Heading home and decided to find something outside of usual for dinner, found the Jade Dragon Buffet in Ames, Iowa. Thoroughly impressed! First, the buffet was HUGE, everything was fresh and tender, flavor was magnificent. Plates and food were replenished immediately, place was very clean, and the decor was very tasteful. A bit above average buffet with traditional American Chinese options. If the Hibachi had a chef waiting, we would have stuck with that. We got a menu in the mail and the pictures and menu looked good so we figured we give it a try, we finally got around to trying it and were super excited. After we got back home we sat down with our pick up order and were disappointed. They messed up our order and they food looked unappetizing. We looked past it and decided to eat. Which led to more disappointment when the food tasted like canned cat food. We ended up putting our rice in the chow mein and dousing it in hot sauce to cover the original flavor. read more
