    Miso Salmon Ramen

Service was just okay but it was because it was just one waitress working on all the tables. We ordered a few rolls and a ramen. My ramen came out first but the sushi came out a while after I finished my bowl of ramen. Not the best in timing on their part if it came out a few minutes after the ramen came out I would understand but that was a long wait time. The waitress did apologize for the wait but thats something the chefs should improve. Food was honestly not the best. The ramen was okay, more flavorful than other ramen places in des moines area but there not many so thats not saying much. The sushi was just awful. The rice was mushy, the tuna was in one of the rolls was a light pink color. On the other roll the fish had a slightly bad odor. It wasn't inedible but it was all overall a very underwhelming dining experience. Im sure the bento box for college kids would be more of a seller since it seemed to have more food for the price. George gives it a sad one chomp out of three chomps.

Experience was great. Food was very good. Bento boxes always have the perfect portion of food. Challenge is the menu price and what you pay do not match. Having been in retail marketing for years, I struggle how restauranteurs can charge over list price. Yes, restaurant owners are a 'retailer' and should follow the same rules. Price changes - Menu prices must change. Until the publish prices are at one rate, then the customer should pay one rate. Printing is not that expensive!

Service was good, but the food was not tasty. We ordered miso, appetizers, sushi, and Ramen. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the meal.

Surprisingly good ramen in Ames! I've had ramen in various larger cities, and Ichiban is up there with anything I've had.

This was…read moreonly our second ramen spot, but it has officially become the standard we'll compare every other ramen restaurant against. We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Hokkaido delivered on every level--food, atmosphere, and service. We'll definitely be back, and if you're in the Ankeny area and craving ramen, this is a place you need to experience. Highly recommended.

We got spicy egg drop soups with our lunch and it had an interesting flavor. It wasnt really spicy. I can't really describe it but it was what you would expect if you ordered egg drop soup at a BBQ joint. Not terrible, but not sure I enjoyed it. The salmon avocado and shrimp tempura we ordered were good. The chicken was edible but tasted like they grabbed some precooked chicken from Costco fridge and put it on top of some grilled onions. Overall it was an ok experience. The service was great and we enjoyed the sushi.

We arrived during happy hour and ordered of that menu. They have a great happy hour. We started with a green salad and pork dumplings. Both were delicious and we would order again. I love the ginger dressing it is so light and refreshing. The dumplings were cooked perfectly and were soft with that light crisp/crunch. It comes with 6, but I forgot to get a picture before we dug in. We ordered two rolls the Angry Dragon and Marilyn Monroll. Both were good, not my favorite, but I'm looking forward to trying more of their rolls. The service was good, but nothing crazy. We waited a little bit for our drink and food order to be taken, but otherwise smooth sailing. We both enjoyed this place and will be back, especially for happy hour!
