This review is in reference to her shockingly poor customer service, not the salon itself or any of the other stylists. Due to COVID-19, appointments could no longer be scheduled using the app, clients were required to e-mail stylists in order to schedule, completely understandable. On August 12, 2020, I had an appointment scheduled for 11:00 am, upon arrival at the salon, there was a notice posted on the door that Shy had a personal emergency and would have to reschedule. I live about 30 minutes away from the salon, and although disappointed that I wouldn't be getting my hair styled that day as expected, I was more concerned that my stylist was ok and in good health. I emailed Shy before driving back home, I said I hoped that everything was ok and to please let me know when I could reschedule. A few days pass, it's now Saturday, August 15, and I haven't received an e-mail response, so I decided to call her other location, Fells Point, because I'm not sure if Shy was still experiencing an emergency and I didn't want to be a bother. I was able to get an appointment with another stylist at the Fells Point location the very next day, perfect! It's Sunday, my service appointment went well, to my surprise Shy called the stylist who serviced me and told her to give me a 40% discount, it wasn't unexpected, but I appreciated her doing that. Later Sunday evening, Shy emailed me and apologized for the cancellation, again appreciated the personalized customer service. We emailed back and forth about my current style and discussed ideas about what I wanted to do next. During the conversation, Shy informed me that she'll be back to work fully starting the first week of September and that online booking would be back up as well. Fast forward to August 21, I happened to be browsing the app and noticed that a few September dates had opened up - one of those dates being the 9th, so I thought maybe she opened her book early, but I wasn't sure so I decided to email her for clarity - I desperately needed an appointment for September 4th as I have an event to attend on the 5th, so I emailed her to see if she had any availability on that day, as since the beginning of the pandemic, this has been our primary source of communication. Her auto-reply says to give her 24 hours for a response, again me not wanting to be a bother, I wanted to give her ample time to respond. On the morning of August 25, I decided to call the Federal Hill location, because I really need to secure an appointment for my upcoming event. A woman answers the phone and I'm greeted with "Shy Watters Hair Studio," I asked "hey, is this Shy," she responds "yes, may I ask who's calling" and in a jokingly manner, I responded "hey, this is Nickole don't mean to stalk you," and then the line immediately disconnects. I'm thinking it must be a mistake, Shy wouldn't hang up on me, what would be the reason? I'm just calling to get clarity on her availability. I called back 45 minutes later just to be sure, and received no answer. And to date, she has not replied to my email from August 21. I'm writing this review as a buyer beware, yes, the salon is great, Shy does do great work, that is not up for debate. However, the way that she handled the situation was poorly done and in bad taste. I have never experienced such terrible customer service. Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to support her salon or brand. Hanging up on customers (unwarranted, might I add) is unacceptable and unprofessional. Treat your clients with more respect.

I went in here with darker brown hair and showed a picture of what I wanted, a few shades lighter…read moreof brown (photo attached), and I came out with literal YELLOW hair. Not only was the result completely different from what I wanted, but I also had a hot curling iron dropped on my arm and after hours of bleach on my head they also felt like it was a good idea to hold a blow dryer less than an inch away from my scalp, which left my scalp feeling sore for weeks after the appointment. I also ended up paying almost double the amount that I was originally quoted, which I'm sure had to do with the fact that there was more bleach used than necessary. This cost me $320 when I was originally quoted $170, keep in mind this was just for the coloring, I did not get a haircut. I also would not get a haircut here ever again because a few weeks prior to this appointment, I got a haircut here and the FRONT pieces were at least 2 inches different in length (which makes no sense to me since that should be the easiest part to see?). I reached out to the salon and spoke to the owner via email and received no compensation but instead an offer for a $75 voucher that could be used there in future appointments, which is nothing to me since I will not be going back nor would I recommend this salon to anyone that I know. Between the poor results, inaccurate pricing, scalp discomfort, and lack of accountability after, I recommend taking your hair elsewhere.

My service started on time, I felt well cared for as a first time client and received attentive timely service. I drove from DC and it was well worth it! Took home her products (edge control and serum) to keep the style looking fresh. Masks, hand washing and sanitizer practices were in place so I felt covid safe too. I loved that I didn't have to shop for hair-or follow some ridiculous rule to wash my own hair before I come-everything was included!

Shes managed my hair in the natural state, cut all the way off, to me wearing a sew-in. She does it all. This place is perfext for her, she has her own little salon in a rental space and its perfect. She's still moving in but that dosent stop her from doimg amazing colors, blow outs and weave maintenance. Please check her out, I guarantee you wont be disappointed. I was very iffy because I needed a cut and deep conditioning treatment but many people overly cut hair sometimes. I went to Judith and the first thing I fell in love with was her bubbly personality, it is seriously amazing and brought rays of sunshine to my day! She had me sit in the seat and really got to know my hair, she felt the texture, checked my scalp, asked about my previous history and asked what kinds of products I used. I was seriously impressed on Judith's screening of hair as I've never seen anyone complete such a check up on hair before they do it. It was as if a doctor was asking for my medical history but instead it was my hair stylist and it was about my hair's health. After the screening she reviewed with me how much she would be cutting as I told her to cut anything dead, it ended up being 3 inches and I was sad but at that point Judith earned my full trust! She washed my hair and even put in an amazing deep conditioner in my hair. Judith had me sit in the seat confirmed if I wanted a straight cut or layer and began to cut my hair, what I really loved is that Judith had me stand up and move to the side after my cut to make sure it looked good from every angle and that she didn't miss anything. I love Judith's personality, suggestions she provides, her methods, techniques and her profession. She is passionate about what she does and it really shows in her work!
