This is in a small town outside of Calgary and worth visiting and walking Main Street. I have been to this restaurant twice now because I had such a good experience the first time. Three of us went to Jaipur India Cuisine yesterday for dinner. None of us had been there before and we were all very pleased with our dinner selections. I eat gluten-free, and Indian food is always a safe choice for me. We were able to select the level of spiciness, which I very much appreciated. We shared three mains, plus papadums, naan bread and saffron rice. All was delicious and fresh. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely return the next time we are in Cochrane. read more

Phenomenal Indian food, especially for a little town like Cochrane. Jaipur has quickly become one of our favourite places to eat. From the outside, it's a quaint little bungalow. From the inside, the converted home quickly becomes several private rooms for dining (think dinner parties) and then a bigger open dining area with multiple different tables with tasteful Indian decorations. The chicken biryani, butter chicken, naan and samosas are super tasty. The service is really great because the owner of the establishment is the one se, and, as the menu says "everything is greeted with a smile". Short of licking the bowls clean good. Really appreciate little gems in places like these. Side note, the desserts are really good here as well. The honeyed donuts were amazing. read more

Excellent north central/eastern cuisine in a small house setting for greater sense of intimacy than larger venues. Easily among the top 5 restaurants in Cochrane, Jaipur compares favourably with the excellent Mehtab (Punjabi Indian) across town and My Greek Plate next door. The food. Ordered kadhani lamb with chicken tikka salad, garlic naan and masbati rice. We'd considered lamb vindaloo but helpful Sandeep our waiter assured us that all vindaloos would be much spicier (hotter) even at the lowest heat level. As an excellent lead-in, their complimentary hot potato/pea samosa with a delicious mild sauce was a definite bonus. The kadhani was very good with an evenly-spiced flavours that were right up there with the best. Their chicken tikka salad, cubed chicken breast atop chopped cold veggies, was most delicious. The garlic naan was milder than most, but flaky and light. A large dish of basmati dressed it all off nicely. We were served large enough portions to take one meal back home for the next day. As well, wines and other drinks are available... The decor. Somewhat darker than might be advised, this small living room venue could be considerably brightened up with golds rather than blacks that bleed the light out of an already darkened room. The music. Great Indian music interspliced with some new age material from Oliver Shanti and others definitely added to the dining experience. We will return, perhaps many times. In some ways we regret living so far away in central Calgary, because there are more great restaurants per capita in Cochrane! Try it? And find yourself being reminded of returning from time to time. read more

This place is solid but not amazing as far as indian restaurants go and for a town like Cochrane that might be all that's required. There is one exceptional thing I should mention and that's the spices they put on their paneer pakora which I could lick off the plate (but don't). When I'm here I feel like the staff are bit presumptive about how little I know about Indian food and culture which is a bit insulting for me since I'm quite knowledgable and have traveled the country BUT it means they are approachable for people trying it for the first time and I certainly heard a group of obvious first timers at the table next to me which is great that they are expanding their horizons. For example their menu says "Masala Chickpeas" and I just instinctively said "Chana Masala" and the Indian server still took it upon himself to describe what it was. Yup, I know. When I ordered 2 orders of naan he suggest I order rice and one naan "because that's how it's done" NOPE... I go to eat indian is restaurants because naan is not the same at home and I don't want to assign my carb allotment to rice when I could be eating delicious naan. He wouldn't even drop it when I said no but eventually I got my two pieces and they were as yummy as expected. They of course the food comes out spiced for a white Canadian girl that I am... which I accept as a fairly standard practice (even in India for that matter). The good news is the food is tasty even without the heat I might want and that's a great marker. read more

I stopped into Jaipur recently for lunch. I'm a huge fan of their competition in Cochrane so I figured it was only fair for me to stop in and give them a chance. It was definitely a different experience than what I had at the other East Indian restaurant. You can tell they're trying to set themselves apart and they do a good job at it. The first thing that struck me was the intimacy of the dining area. Whereas the other restaurant was wide open and huge, Jaipur was more snug. I can see this being a positive and negative depending on the event you have planned (date night good; big party bad). Unlike their competition who offers a lunch buffet, Jaipur gives you a choice of chicken, beef, or vegetarian entree combined with rice, a couple of pieces of naan bread, a samosa, two vegetarian side dishes, and a dessert. For $10 it sounded like a super deal. I chose the butter chicken for the entree and was pleasantly surprised. It was tasty and well done. The rice was the perfect amount to match up with the butter chicken. Although the naan bread was tasty, the 3 small pieces wasn't enough for my liking. The samosa was nice and made me wish there was 1 or 2 more. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of the vegetarian dishes. One of the problems is that I have a minor allergy to mushrooms and was not informed of what the vegetarian dishes consisted of. All in all, my experience at Jaipur was a good one. Although I don't think I'd go back for lunch due to lack of selection or my perceived value, the food and pleasant service was good enough that I'd like to try dinner one night. read more

The food is just amazing here! I would fly from the US again to Cochrane just to have their food ! Being an Indian and a big foodie, I can assure you that they did 100% justice to the authenticity of Indian flavors in the food .I even loved their cocktails and the items are not too pricey either . We dine at Jaipur on a semi-regular basis. We have only had dinner there, never lunch. The service is always friendly and casual, and the food is out of this world. Some of our family are East Indian, and they have nothing but praise for this place - must count for something. :-) We like the food at their Cochrane competition as well, but the portions we find a little larger here, so better value for the money. Our favorite place to eat in Cochrane... highly recommended. read more

This is by far the best Indian Restaurant you'll find! Their fish pakora starter is to die for!! It would have got 5 stars from me, but the last couple of times, I've asked for medium and it has come out hotter than a vindaloo!!! Also, just on the slight bit expensive too. After several mediocre dining experiences at other Cochrane restaurants since moving here from Toronto 6 weeks ago, we resigned ourselves to the fact that we likely wouldn't find any superb dining experiences in our small town. That was until we dined at Jaipur. This place is a first class Indian restaurant, with a great ambiance. Lamb Curry, Butter Chicken, veggie Pakora, Chicken Masala were all great, and the service was excellent. If you like Indian, this place is worth the drive to Cochrane. read more
