There are usually more booths outside on weekends, and when the weather is more mild. So I just stayed inside the golden nugget today. There are two stories filled with nostalgic goodness. I always like looking for holiday items. This time I was looking for tin or metal toys for a friend of mine and I wanted to look at records. So they sell antiques... but there is also a room of art. Statues that are not old. If you're ever looking for anything, definitely contact them because you're sure to find it !

We typically avoid Golden Nugget unless we happen to be driving right past it... and today reminded us why. Inside, it was the usual sad state of affairs. However, in one incredibly cluttered booth, I managed to spot an interesting little Art Deco lamp. Since nothing in this place is ever priced, we had to track down the guy running the booth, someone named Victor. When we finally found him, he quoted a ridiculous $500. I politely told him I wasn't interested, and he immediately lost his temper, yelling at me to "put it back where I found it." Do yourself a favor and completely avoid the indoor building; management really needs to convert it into a properly run, vendor-style antique mall. For now, stick strictly to the outdoor tables where the decent sellers are.

We couldn't find much about Fleetwood Antique Mall during our initial web searches, but wanted to give it a chance. It's easily accessible off of U.S. Route 222. Parking is an informal affair with no marked lines; we ended up parking near one of the back buildings. Even before entering Fleetwood Antique Mall, you can tell this place is different with several old vehicles on display out front. Random statues also are on display everywhere outside. Fleetwood Antique Mall is three floors with several rooms on each floor, and several outlying buildings. First floor of the main building is handicap accessible, but others do not appear to be. The Antique Mall has a solid variety of unique items, is clean, with little junk. First floor has a large amount of antique and retro furniture. Statues that look like they came from restaurants or bars are everywhere and stand out. This place is so loaded with items; you have to look up as they are even hanging from the rafters. Second floor is similar to the first; we found unique video game systems in one booth. The third floor has a low ceiling and as we are tall it was a challenge to explorer, but it mostly contained furniture. Outlying buildings contain items including but not limited to office furniture and mattresses. One building contains the $1 budget section, and in the basement were old trunks and hubcaps. This store does something that many other Antique stores don't: they have tape measures, pens, and paper on every floor, a simple but smart idea. The front desk employee was helpful and asked how we found them. She also provided us with information about their sister location, The Shoppes at Kirbyville, located just down the road. Overall, we were surprised by the lack of reviews as this place was great. Fleetwood Antique Mall is totally with a stop when in the area.

Google failed to tell me that! Considering I drove 42 miles round trip I was disappointed. It was kind of a dud as far as flea markets are concerned. They didn't have alot of vendors that day and even less carrying used goods. Most were run of the mill independent sales consultant companies I could buy at home. A few vendors are worth mentioning and (sort of) made the venture worthwide. There's a building across from the parking lot that was a full blown retail store. While most of the items were modern farmhouse and my decor style is more boho and eccentric, I was able to find some wicker placemats for a $1/each that elsewhere could easily sell for $7. There's also a vendor selling fresh produce, (most things were 2 for $3!) so I stocked up on fruits & veggies for the week at a steal. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the quality was too. At the end of the property is a huge greenhouse set up with every kind of outdoor plant, perennial and annual you can think of. They run a hell of a business and were swamped with customers. It was hard to find help. In the end I didn't buy anything since they don't carry houseplants. I didn't encounter any food vendors which was surprising and would have loved to get a snack and cold drink before my long drive back. Worth noting: $1 fee to park, if there's no attendant you don't pay. Also the restrooms were clean and attended, don't forget to tip! Also bring cash, while some vendors accepted plastic, cash rules at the flea.
