Truly an americanized version of mexican food. But, nevertheless a good subsitute for the real thing. Food is pretty good for the most part. Definately always fresh and served hot. Food preparation area looks very clean. Dining area not so much. Hours are horrible, closes by 3:00 PM everyday and no weekend hours whatsoever. And for the life of me, I can't understand why after all of these years, the restaurant shuts down during the Christmas holidays, spring break and fourth of July week. One would think by now that they would have an adequate number of staff people in place to keep the restaurant going during those times. read more

Yum! Fast, affordable, and delicious! I really enjoyed me enchiladas and the portion size was HUGE. More than enough there for two meals. I'm excited to head back and try a couple other things on the menu. There were more than a few options that looked good. I'd avoid heading in at peak lunch time. At 8:30am this place is BUSY. This doesn't bother me. I wanted to try a breakfast burrito but did not want eggs. I substituted beans fit the eggs and added mushrooms. I have to start by saying I only go to Jalapenos for breakfast, but I go almost every day. And, because of that, I almost never eat lunch (only if I miss my morning run to Jalapeno's). As a non-egg eater, Jalapeno's is one of the few places that I don't feel cheated ordering an item that typically comes with eggs. Most places just leave off the eggs. A few places will let you order something in place of the eggs (but VERY few). This place loads up my breakfast burrio with everything else so that my tortilla is just as full of goodness as everyone else's. I'm a big fan of their hot salsa and the refillable cups, but I love the little bambino fruit pies for the days I want a little something sweet to counter the spicy hot salsa. read more

This is my favorite lunch spot downtown. They are open during the week for breakfast and lunch. I wish they were open in the evening and on weekends. I haven't had their breakfast but I have heard it is really good. They do get busy at lunch, but if you go between 11 and 11:30 there is not really a wait. Even if you walk in and the line is all the way to the back, they are very efficient and you will wait much less than you think. The tables do fill up, but clear out quickly. In the summer they have tables on the sidewalk, or you can get it to go and eat on a bench on the street. My favorite dish is the chicken nachos. These are hands down the best I've had in the Lansing area. The half order is plenty for lunch and I'm not a skimpy eater. They are reasonably fast and the food is always fresh. The order taker girl is nice and so is the cashier, watch out for the girl manning the nacho oven- Frown Town USA!!! I miss this place since I don't work downtown anymore!! read more

I am a fan of Jalepeno's and would echo the sentiments of all the reviews to-date; namely, the lines are long, but move quickly through the lunch hour & wish it was open later than 3 pm. That being said, I recommend going on Tuesday when the daily special is Tamales. So good, generous portion, with beans, rice, and handful of chips. Friendly staff that always seems to appreciate my business is another reason I like to spend my money here. read more

I found a rock in my santa fe salad today. (i'm a frequent customer). I called the restaurant back to let them know about this and the owner acted like it wasn't a big deal, refused to apologize and tried to gaslight me by telling me that this happens all the time and that "well beans are grown in the ground." Update, Spring 2018. I've ordered twice recently. Both times, bacon breakfast burritos. Both times, I've gotten half-way through the burrito before finding even one crumb of bacon. They used to have big pieces of bacon in there, and it was chock-full of meat from one end to the other. Now it's barely there at all, scant, and minced to death. You can hardly tell what it is. Very disappointing. Food still tastes good, but come on. read more

I come here all the time for lunch. It's usually pretty busy during lunch the lunch hours but the wait is not bad at all. The staff is very friendly and the food isn't bad either. I usually get the enchilada armor but macho nachos are also a good choice and with large portions. I would definitely recommend this place for a friend if they want Mexican for lunch. read more

Finally gave this place a shot and grabbed a vegetarian breakfast burrito. Cheap and yummy. Standard quality ingredients, nothing to drool over. Every week I get a breakfast burrito (or 3) from Jalapenos and im ADDICTED. I order a sausage burrito add tomatoes and jalapeños and its to die for. I usually call in to order before I walk down, it helps to avoid the lines on work days for sure. read more

Very very stingy. Wrong order, or don't like what you get, they are not nice at all about it. Want extra chips on your salad? Yeah, right. Even though there are 3 things you don't get on it. Jalapeno's is probably my favorite thing about working downtown. Their food is fantastic, and the staff is always quick and efficient. And I love that I can make changes or adjustments to an order and they're always willing to accommodate. I love both their breakfast and their lunch. This place was a complete bust. A coworker and I stopped in to grab lunch. The price was on par with most of the other Mexican restaurants in town. The food quality though - might as well have gone to Taco Bell. Chips were stale, the tacos were super small, and the beans tasted like they had been sitting for hours. For the same price at Los Tres Amigos your food looks, and tastes better. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. Fast to go service for a sit down. Surprisingly affordable. I paid less than $4 for a fresh burrito on a 12 inch tortilla. I frequent alot of mexican restaurants. With that said. Good food. Guac average. Salsa ok. Kind of soupy. I had the breakfast menu. The whole place smelled good. Would have rated higher but Gotye was playing in the background. Food and service has always been hit or miss. Today I ate at the restaurant and asked for chips and salsa to go. I assumed there would be a fee but they wanted to charge me $8.50 for a bag of chips and salsa. That is more than my meal which consisted of chips, salsa, enchilada, rice, beans, and a pop. So I asked if I could get a refill at the table which they have ALWAYS done in the past. They refused. I am seriously unsure how this guy is in business. this was a second attempt at placing an order for a bunch of us. Thought another try was warranted. Again this place would not take credit cards and basically made the order-making process very dissatisfying. Some still placed an order anyway, and the rest of us placed an order with the daily bagel some time after. the daily bagel showed up first. i guess all the positive reviews must only be if you go in-house because jalapenos certainly has not impressed this bunch of folks. read more
