The Lincoln County Social Club is a neat little recording studio in Liberty Village. It's a big…read moreroom with high ceilings, a vocal booth and a great homey feel to it (Which is due mostly to the fact that it is a home, John actually lives there. You might even find yourself rocking out while John's eating cereal and answering emails on his computer. Where else can you find that?). The best part about this place though is the extensive vintage instrument collection at your disposal. He has a bunch of awesome guitars you can use, an upright piano, a drum set and an awesome Wurlitzer. Plus a bunch of other cool stuff that we never even got to. I forget what it ended up costing us per day, but it was decent rate. I guess the myspace page is the best way to contact him. Long time listener, first time visitor!…read more I've heard the Long & McQuade musical instrument ads on radio for years. And Lo and behold I finally visited with the family to pickup a larger-sized violin from this location. The store has a huge assortment of different instruments including new and used in its various sections ranging from guitars to flutes to saxophones. Some instruments can be tried and we noticed a few young musicians playing the piano while waiting for their music class. Indeed this store also features a set of teaching classrooms in a back corner and many families appeared to come into the store to attend their session. Our sales rep was quite patient letting us test several different violins and answer our questions regarding the brand quality and the differences size. We were able to get a good deal during the Black Friday sale with help from the manager. Our case and bow were also checked to be of good quality. The family left impressed with the service. Skip it or hit it? Come for the reputation, stay for the service.

The experience was great though and I can see why bands like Barenaked Ladies frequent this place. We were in Studio A and we choose the 7' Baldwin Grand Piano to record with and man did it sound beautiful. The studio and recording equipment is top notch, and your choices for pianos and organs are astounding. Just take a look on their website for all their gear. The guys working there were really helpful and the process was fast and smooth. It's not cheap though, you're paying for the best here. That's mainly why we had to go in after hours, to save some coin (I know a guy who knows a guy ;). Once I become a rock star though I intend to really test this place out. Of course, I will update my review accordingly.

This place is several floors of unassuming grey/brown brick. My first time there I saw a number of…read moreshady nogoodniks loading things out of a van in an alley. Then I realized they were my friends. It was dark and we're musicians. Sue me. The Rehearsal Factory is one of the few places I've found in Toronto that has a fair balance between price, availability and quality facilities. They are not the cleanest, but they do their best. They are not the cheapest, but they come close. They do have good sized rooms though and the sound proofing is better than other places I've been too. Their bathrooms are a decent size and have a shower but I'm not sure you would want to use it. If you've ever been on a tour bus you'll know why. It might be worth it to mention that the room is entirely covered in tile with stainless steel sink and toilet so everything can be steam blasted clean with ease. The odd thing about this place is that it's partially condo space so you have to clear out at 11pm. That's more than an inconvenience when you've been slaving away for hours trying to figure out a song and you're kicked out just as it finally comes to you. It's not always possible to put yourself back in that creative space and pick up where you left off even if you've been recording everything up till that point. Everyone I've dealt with here, staff and musicians alike, have been great. They all seem to respect each others space and I've had some great conversations about who's making what type of music and why. If you happen to be looking for studio space I would suggest you drop by and take a look.
