It's been ten days since I purchased a Boss Katana 100W Gen 3. As a former Fender Princeton owner, I appreciate the Katana presents a learning curve. But the amp has great potential and I'm getting more familiar with it. The best part so far is just how well the Katana responds to playing dynamics. Firstly, I acknowledge that quality music, doesn't come cheaply. However there are better sources of getting a product , at a much better price , else where. in short long and mcquade makes not attempt to price match, even if their policy is to. Being Back Friday, I bought a couple of sets of Cello String Sets, stateside...shipped to Canada for a mere $15. Sur-charge. Saved a bundle. Long and McQuade, all but kicked me out of their store, for suggesting a price reduction to be competitive..the previous day. A nice enough store. Not so sure about the depth of their inventory lines, but a healthy selection. Odds are, you can do better elsewhere. I surely did. Won't be back. read more

Only go here if you know what you are getting. If you have questions or like to try stuff out, staff will just ignore you. Went here 4 times and the staff is pretty useless. Only the first time that I went that the manager had to reluctantly assist me because the guy I initially interacted with just gave me a tuner as I wanted to try an instrument and then disappeared. The 3 other times I've visited this location they had more staff and customers yet they're happy to chat away loudly. No interest in coming back here again. I'll do my music business elsewhere. read more

Came in a few weeks back looking for a cheap beater bass. It was fairly quiet there. I tried out two or three low end models, and then starting testing out some more expensive models. By the 6th or 7th bass I played, I was talking myself into stepping up my budget. I was being gentle and respectful to the instruments. The volume on the amp was set quieter than the guitars being played across the room. I had my choice narrowed to two Fenders, each priced about $1000, a bit more than the $300 I had intended to spend. Would have been an easy sale for the reps on duty that night. Instead, as I was carefully placing one bass on the wall and about to grab the other I was going to choose between, an employee walks up, disconnects the guitar cable from the amp and walks away with it. He doesn't say a word to me. That's how you blow an easy sale and lose a customer for life. Thank jebus for Amazon. A nail in the coffin of a brick and mortar waste of real estate like this. read more

Came in looking for a guitar and left buying one. The store is a decent size and has a decent amount of people working to help you. If you are looking for an acoustic guitar ask for Denise D. Very knowledgeable about acoustic guitars, friendly and bright. Especially if you are a new buyer I would suggest going to her. Patience is also part of her personality! Aside from that, financing the guitar was smooth. No delays no hiccups. One thing great from long & maquade is the extended warranty (ask about it!). I am happy with my Seagull Coastline Momentum. I know I will be buying another guitar here for my sister! read more

I rented some gear for a gig and called a week before to book the rental. I paid upfront with my credit card over the phone for the rental but when I got to the store I was charged a surprise $40 "holding fee". Confused seeing as I paid in full up front I was informed that the fee was to guarantee that the gear I had already paid for would be held for me. Huh? Apparently paying upfront in full does not guarantee that the gear will be there which makes absolutely no sense. Unless of course you pay them an extra $40 for nothing. I pleaded with the guy to forgo the unfair, undiscussed hidden charge and he smugly said "Do you want the gear or not pal?". Had I not had a gig in three hours I would have walked. To make matters worse they initially showed me a piece of gear that was like new but then gave me one with missing knobs and beer spilled all over it. I only noticed when I got to the car and had to go back in and exchange it. They thought it was funny. Nice. I will never go back to L&M and now happily take my business else where and for better rental prices too I might add. read more

I drive all the way from Vaughan to buy from this store and have been for years. The staff are great. They bend over backwards to get what you need. They aren't on commission so the advise you'll get is sound. (Excuse the pun :-) I love the fact that I can try whatever I want and I have 30 days to bring it back if I don't like it; no questions asked, for any kind of musical instrument or gear. That's huge. Over the years I've accumulated a ton of guitars and gear. Because of their great trade-in program, I've always been able offset the cost of a lot of new gear with trade-ins. Next, as a part of a gigging band you need a place where you can rent reliable gear at a reasonable price. So there is no need to own the more expensive gear, (lights or larger pieces of a PA, etc) Because of this, I know we can do a gig of any size. Plus the fact that you can rent from one location and take it back to any other location comes in handy. Finally... selection, availability and price. When you call and ask if they have something in stock, they check their own inventory. If they don't have have it, they check the other 50 locations across Canada. If they don't have it, they can usually get pretty quick and at a great price because unlike other stores, when they order from a vendor, they have the buying power of 50+ locations. I highly recommend. L&M in general but the Mississauga location specifically. read more

L&M ROCKS... My son was looking for a Ibanez Jem 7v and Paul and the gang were able to get a used one at a L&M in Regina,This guitar had been mildly modified with an upgraded pick guard ,but the back plate was a little butchered and easily fixable . The guitar had been used for a short period of time but basically brand new. This beauty was shipped to Ontario and took about 2 weeks to arrive. HUGE THANKS to Paul Hart for all the effort he put in for this to happen. The guitar was priced so amazing, that it was a no-brainer. We have purchased a few guitars from L&M Mississauga in the past and have always been treated fair and decent. I've been a long time customer at the store. Absolutely loved the selection, deals, and some of the staff. Don't put your instrument in for a tune up though. They obviously do not cater to the more casual musicians. I put my 6-string bass in for a tune up and truss rod adjustment. They had my bass for 1 month and 2 weeks before I got it back! They said it would be a 2 week job. I contacted them about 4 times and the job was not complete. The 5th time I said I was coming to pick it up; they informed me the truss rod was not adjusted and the job wasn't complete. When I got there they took 15 minutes to bring me my bass, and when they did, the job was "done". They did a 15 minute job after having it for over a month. 2 stars because of the selection, prices, and the fact they didn't charge me for the tune up because of their inconvenience. I'm pretty sure a more known local musician would have had his back within a week. read more

I've purchased many guitars and a lot of gear from this location. The selection is great and the staff are pretty good. The main reason I keep returning is Dave (the guitar tech). He works on all my guitars and is among the best guitar techs in the GTA (he's even fixed poor setups I've had performed at other L&M locations). He gets busy so don't expect to get your axe back for a few days (or even weeks) but this has never bothered me since I have several other guitars and rotate them accordingly. The selection of guitars and amps is impressive as is the selection of basses and professional audio gear. The only fault I can think of is the selection of pedals. Prior to the renovations a few years ago, they had more of a selection on display. Maybe it's just me and nothings really changed but it sure feels like there's more of a focus on the run of the mill brands and fewer boutique pedals than before. Still, a great place to check out and a must if you're looking for a great tech. read more

I always find that they have great sales reps here, all of them are very helpful, answers any questions you have, and they don't discriminate based on your music experience. They'll help you try out almost any instruments/tool and don't mind if you stay in the store just to try out things. All the hired staff are really experienced in music. Selection is great, they got a large variety of instruments and accessories, suitable for beginners and pros. Finding specific models of instruments is a little hard, but no big deal, just ask a rep. Great stuff all around. read more

Apart from what appears to be a great selection of merchandise, the customer service is terrible. My story - about three years ago I was looking for a Yamaha keyboard. I did some online searches and found the one I wanted. L & M is about a 10 minute drive, so I wandered over. I found the keyboard but could not find any sales clerk to even look in my general direction. It's a mid-week afternoon, and there's only about 3 people in the store. After about 20 minutes I walk out and go to Steve's downtown. It's about a 90 minute rountrip drive, but they appreciated my business and gave me a great deal on a couple of accessories. Just over $1600 spent. I thought I would give L & M another crack this afternoon. I needed to buy a set of earbuds, and I was also looking at buying my wife a new guitar for her upcoming birthday. Once again it's mid-week, with about 5 customers around. Tons of staff, but they are mostly split up into pairs, chatting amongst themselves- upcoming gigs, court appearances, etc etc. I see the earbuds I want behind a locked display case. Nobody wants to help. Nobody even says hello. After 10 minutes in the store, I'm outta there. No earbuds, no guitar. Kiss another $1000 bucks goodbye, Long & McQuade. Your customer service is about the worst I've ever encountered. I'm never coming back. read more
