I never thought I'd get the energy to write this post bc anything about my boy & that painful day will haunt me forever but I do know I owed it to this vet & staff to praise them for how much they helped me with this day. I had to make the hardest decision literally of my 35 years to put my sweet old man down, he was 13 and my world. Although it was something no one ever wants to do this staff and doctor helped make the worst day a very special yet lovely experience despite the circumstances. Just wanted to say to anyone who has to make the hard decision how empathic, & incredible everyone was here. If you need to make the hard decision with your baby this truly is the staff to make the decision with. Thank you guys for caring & loving bubba . They even gave me prints of his nose & paws I remember them asking that day & I do know I said yes but I also was in such a tunnel vision of heartbreak I had forgot until I picked his ashes up & saw how special it was. I brought my dog in due to a hematoma (blood build up) on her ear. The place is clean, the staff is nice and professional. Problem is the veterinarian decided to do a "conservative approach" to treating the hematoma. My husband brought our dog home and the ear had only been drained half way with needle and a steroid put in. I called the vet to ask why it had not been completely drained to promote faster healing. He told me I could bring my dog back if problem still not resolved in a couple of weeks. Well 3 weeks later, problem not resolved and the hematoma was as big as it was when I first took her in. I spent $540 to fix the problem at Jamacha Pet Vets. It was not fixed, I took her to another vet who did an incision, properly drained it completely. It cost me another $400. read more

We have been going to Jamacha Pet Vets for five or so years, since getting our rescue German Shepherd, Alaska. Through covid and two locations, we never once thought of switching to another vet after seeing what great care Dr Kirkpatrick and the team provided. Over the subsequent years we dealt with an aging Shepherd with a variety of pre-existing health issues, but the care and ongoing treatment we received gave our boy not only more years but more importantly. more good years. I see people occasionally mention they have treatments "pushed on them" so I would like to also address that here. We did a lot, and tried a lot, to keep our boy healthy and comfortable. However, we did not choose to do every single thing available but created a treatment plan with Dr Kirkpatrick that we felt was manageable for all involved. That said, I DID want to understand every potential, even impractical option under the stars in order to make the best decision possible even if we couldn't pursue them all. I appreciated understanding everything and never even once felt pressured to do anything that wasn't right for us. What I did value was Dr Kirkpatrick's honest and candid thoughts about what might work and what might not and helping us make decisions on care together. For the last couple of years we have been in the office every 4 weeks so in that time you get to see an operation and how it runs. The team has always been respectful, responsive, and caring, and there was never an issue we weren't able to easily resolve. Even toward the end when it was really hard to get him in and out of the car the technicians came to the vehicle to give him his injections along with a friendly pet and a manner that kept him calm and comfortable. Laura, thank you for always making it easy on me, you were Alaska's favorite so it's fitting you got one of his last cuddles. When it came time to have to make the hardest decision of all, my boy was surprisingly calm and in good spirits, I know it's because he felt surrounded by friends in a safe place; him being ok made it so much eaaier on me, too. Even that most terrible of days was handled in such a kind and seamless way that it made the unthinkable, bearable. I've written this long review today because it's the only small way I can pay it forward. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr Kirkpatrick (who is just a wonderful human) and his team to anyone, and I hope when the time is right I will be back to see them again. read more

This is my second, albeit late review. We said goodbye to our 16yo blind husky last year. Dr Dixon provided amazing care and allowed Freeman to remain as comfortable as possible his final months with appropriate pain management instead of worrying over what the pain meds would do to his lab work. Our sweet boy was able to go out for multiple walks each day averaging a total 3 miles. He was able to do the things huskies love right up to end which was so important to us. Before he got to the point of suffering (due to his cancer) we let him go peacefully. That quality of life Dr Dixon provided allowed Freeman to live life fully until the end. read more

My cat somehow hurt his leg or hip and was limping really bad and in lots of pain. Our regular vet was unavailable to see him today so I found Jamacha Pet Vets on Yelp and they were able to get me in same day within just a couple hours. They looked at my cat and offered pain medicine and said if he doesn't improve within a week it would be good to bring him back in for X-rays which I really appreciated not having to spend $500+ if it wasn't necessary. They got me in super fast, staff and doctor were very kind, I'm really happy with my visit today. They even administered the first pain med for me so I could see how to properly do it. Been coming here since both my pups were 3 months old. They bend over backwards to work with my pet insurance company which is a pain in the arse to work with. Both pups have seen all 3 docs but Dr. K is super nice and have done surgery on both pups (spay and neuter). The gals up front are super nice and all the techs are awesome. Been to other vets and the other ones seem to try to upsell. Jamacha pet vets won't do that and will even calculate all possible treatments and allow us to choose what's right for our pups and our budget. I highly recommend them. read more

They are really good with the exams and medical emergencies, and when I went for my dog's general wellness exam, things went great, but their customer service takes a HUGE nosedive when it comes to the basic services (in my case, nail clipping). I've taken in my dog at least four times now, each time I leave with no nails clipped on my dog. On Monday, I called their office, spoke with a "Debbie" about how anesthetics and brining her in the following day would proceed. I come in on Tuesday, they ask if she's been sedated, I said no, why would I sedate and then have her given anesthesia? Turns out there was a 'miscommunication' between the info I was told and what they were willing to do that day, which was nothing because they didn't want to try without even some OTC meds in her system. I was told to come back on Wednesday. I come back in, 10 minutes earlier than my appointment, I was waiting an hour before they even took her in for the appointment (turns out they had two 'emergencies' which is whatever, it happens)! They then tell me they want to try normal clipping first, since I did give her OTC meds to calm her down; twenty minutes later, they tell me that they barely clipped like two nails, but they want to proceed with the anesthesia sedation now, which was the original plan. I say okay and then ask how long it may take, they say about two to three hours. Flash forward to two hours in, I get a call saying THEY HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED THE ANESTHESIA YET!! Said they've been busy trying to catch up with the morning appointments, which mine was, but since it was nail clipping it was not given any priority. I say whatever, it happens, go ahead and proceed. I call them back an hour later, still have not started yet, so I say that I'm coming to pick her up and to forget the whole thing. I go to pick her up, NO REAL APPOLOGY OFFERED besides a halfhearted 'sorry we've been busy due to emergencies'. At the VERY least I was not charged for this fiasco, but when I came home, I notice my dog smelled bad and see that her paws are CAKED in poop!! So not sure if it was an accident she had while waiting over five hours and they did not bother to walk her or clean her or if something else happened. Let this long review be a warning: JUST GO HERE FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY!!! read more

Solid spot and help the pup even though prices were a little higher than other places

I want to thank Dr Kirkpatrick & his team! I thought my dog's foot looked infected & they were able to get me an appointment for next day-when other vets in the area couldnt take any new clients for 2-3 weeks. After a thorough exam, Dr Kirkpatrick said it looks like a foxtail may be in his foot & it is indeed infected. He prescribed antibiotic, anti-inflammatory med, pain med & suggested Epsom salt soaks. The salt soaks surely worked because 3 days later, the foxtail came out. Thank you Dr Kirkpatrick on giving us suggestions to treat him conservatively, before doing any surgery right away. The foxtail is now out thankfully. He also found an ear infection during the exam, which we're treating too. The clinic itself is very clean, large. The staff were very friendly to me & my pet in my experience. Im glad we got a correct diagnosis! read more

The best! They really care, I had the best experience, the ladies in the reception are very friendly and the vets are professional.

During her exam, the vet hurt my senior dog so bad he yelped. Every question I asked couldn't be answered without "further testing". This is a typical vet these days that just wants to sell you endlessly into more tests, surgeries and meds and doesn't actually care about the well being of the animal and what is right for the pet. We did not have a good experience here and ultimately ended up walking out. read more

I have had bad or just not so good vet experiences in the past, so I always go into a new vet office with my fingers crossed. I was so pleased by how friendly and accommodating everyone is at Jamacha Pets Vets. When my dog Samson was getting his exam they were so kind and gentle with him. He can be timid and untrusting. They handled him perfectly. My previous vet said that we weren't up to date on our vaccinations, so that was part of the reason for our visit. I wasn't happy with my previous vet office and we had just moved so it was time to find a new office anyway. Well apparently we were actually up to date on vaccines, so all we had to pay was $59 for the exam. I am so glad to have a friendly vet that we can trust. I wish I could give them zero stars. I will never take my dog here again. I followed their directions and it was Ineffective. They insisted I follow them again so I did and again it was Ineffective. Three times I did exactly what they suggested and gave my dog their prescriptions. When I came back for the follow-up with the issue still at hand they refused to see my dog in the future. I have spent close to $2000 for nothing. I have given my dog their shampoo, mousse, antibiotics, shots and flea control as suggested and have the bills to prove it. How dare you walk in the room after running another skin test where you can clearly see your treatments didn't fix the problem and deny my dog further treatment or advanced treatment after you agreed to look into another avenue of treatment and care if it didn't work for the third time. These people are not good vets they are product and pill pushers until you prove to them it isn't working and then they throw you out the door! read more

I had two very bad experiences at our previous vet, so I was nervous about trying a new place. This was my first time bringing my cat to Jamacha Pet Vets. It was very easy to make an appointment. They have an app for me to add my cat's info, and I received reminder texts for our appointment. I was instantly comfortable walking into the lobby. All of people working behind the desk were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. Danielle who took my cat and me back to the exam room was so kind. I was in San Diego for a short time and decided to get my 14 year old Shih-Tzu, Brooklyn a dental cleaning. Their office was super organized, the wait was short, they did a pre-op examination and once the blood work was in, they called to schedule the dental cleaning. Days before the dental cleaning, I noticed two masses on my dog and they were able to remove it during the dental cleaning as well. After the procedure, I had some follow up questions, and Dr. Kirkpatrick was kind of enough to call me back each time to discuss further and go through the biopsy results and referral. I recently moved to San Diego and the living situation I`m in now has three older cats who I`ve become close with. I vowed to start taking them to the vet for check-ups to make sure they are going to be with us for as long as possible. The first baby(Cats of all ages are babies to me. 5 weeks? Baby! 12 years? Also a baby.) to go is a small cat named Aloha who is feisty and little with big eyes. I took her in for a senior pet wellness exam, which includes all the blood tests, urine tests, and overall exam that would give us a comprehensive look at the cat's health. I found the front desk people to be very friendly and willing to help. I was acknowledged quickly, they had all the info I sent them, and the appointment ran on time(actually early, as I got there earlier and they were nice enough to take us back to a room as soon as one opened to reduce stress on the furrrbaby). Katie was our vet tech and I found her to be really calm, understanding, and kind to myself and Aloha. She didn`t pass judgement over the lack of vet care that Aloha had received and was efficient and on top of her notes. I met with Dr. Balma next, on schedule for our appointment, and I found her to be incredibly friendly and caring, which is obviously a great sign. She was gentle with Aloha and gave me and wealth of information about aging cat health, what could be going on with Aloha and she gave me the run down on what tests they would do. They whisked Aloha away to get some blood and urine. Unfortunately my scared little loaf peed while blood was being taken and they could not get urine, so I had to bring her back a few days later in the morning. The same front desk people and the same vet tech took her back(which made me feel better as I was familiar with Katie already). She came out shortly after to let me know they would need to keep her a bit to get urine and that she would call me as soon as she was done. It took a few hours but she called, as promised, and I was able to pick her up shortly after. I`m still new to this practice and I hope everything continues to go smoothly, but for a first impression, I am happy. Dr. Balma already called and left me a lengthy message about the blood results(quick turn around) and I expect the same for the urine results. They recommended a teeth cleaning, but didn`t push it. I`ll continue to go here as long as I`m here and I`ll take the other babies here as well. Fair pricing on the senior pet wellness exam as well. All around a nice experience. read more
