My 77 year old friend Mike brought his Labrador Tully to mast blvd pet on Tuesday he had stopped eating and drinking and was experiencing stomach issue. Dr Singh diagnosed him with pancreatitis and recommended two days of Iv fluids along with three days of panoquell CA-1 injections at a cost of approximately $4000, Mike was to take Tully home at 6 pm and bring him back at 9 am for the next two days By Wednesday morning when he brought him back his condition appeared to be worsening he was showing signs of pain, weakness and overall declining health. I accompanied mike that night we had asked several staff on Tulllys condition while waiting to see him, but none of them had seen him that day. When dr Singh came in, I asked direct questions about tullys worsening condition and that he appeared to be in pain. We felt that we did not receive clear answers regarding his condition, prognosis or pain management. Tully was so weak that his staff carried him to the car On Thursday morning his health had deteriorated so severely he could not lift his head and we could barely carry him to the car, so a staff technician came out to the car to administer his final injection of panoquell CA1. We showed her that he was trembling in pain and we were now offered pain relief in the form of an Iv injection of morphine. We were told dr Singh would come to the car to discuss Tullys condition, but that conversation never took place. Before leaving I asked what we should do if Tully was not improving by the next day, we were advised to take him to the La Mesa emergency hospital By Friday Tullys condition had become critical he was crying out in pain and we rushed him to the emergency hospital . Within about 30 minutes we learned how severe his condition had become. Mike was faced with the heart breaking decision to euthanize him because he was suffering and his prognosis was extremely poor. Losing a beloved pet is devastating. What has made this experience especially difficult is our feeling that we did receive clear communication about Tullys worsening condition, prognosis, pain management option, or when emergency care should have been sought. We've been using Mast Blvd Pet Hospital for six (6) years, the time we've owned our two (rescues). This past week, I took our little Jack Russel Terrier mix in to have a lump on his chin examined. During the exam, the vet told me he'd never seen this before. I thought, "are you kidding me?" So, he said we ought to biopsy the lump to see if it might be cancer. At the time, I was concerned so I opted for this procedure -- at $550. As it turns out, the lump is not cancer, but a cyst. To treat the cyst, we have $21 of antibiotics. And, it appears this is treating the condition. However, I don't believe the vet when he said he'd never seen this. I think he knew he could "sell" us on the biopsy knowing that he could have recommended giving the dog the antibiotics to see if the lump improved. If it didn't, he said surgery would be recommended for the cyst or a cancerous tumor. So, what I suspect is this. While I'm sure it's ethical to do the biopsy, he could have tried the antibiotics first and then see how things go. My feeling is they are looking to "impact revenue" rather than offer a more conservative approach that might save money. I feel like we were taken in this regard. Rather than find ways to save you money, they seem to find ways to spend your money. read more

We had a vet appointment last week for our senior German Shepherd. After calling around to get in with his usual vet and finding no availability, we ended up at this clinic because they had an opening the next day with Dr. Powers. After this experience, it's clear why she had such immediate availability. From the start, Dr. Powers never introduced herself or even acknowledged us. She walked in, briefly examined our dog (maybe three minutes), and abruptly told us she believed he had cancer or tumors on his spleen. Without any prior relationship or discussion, she coldly told us we should put him down that day. There was no compassion, no warmth, just a rushed and disingenuous conversation. This was the first time we were formally told he may need to be put down, and to receive that news in such a detached and clinical way was incredibly painful. We explained that he was a beloved family dog of over ten years and that we wanted our family to say goodbye. She didn't approve and kept pushing for it to happen immediately. She also mentioned we'd need to see a specialist and highlighted how expensive that would be. What made the experience feel even worse was how hard they pushed for everything to happen that day. It felt less like they were guiding us through options and more like they were trying to pressure us into making a quick, expensive decision while we were vulnerable. The quote for euthanasia alone was $960, far more than other providers we spoke to afterward, including compassionate in-home services. It honestly felt like they were trying to shake us down for as much as they could, knowing we were in a heartbreaking situation. In the end, we chose to go elsewhere, and thankfully that clinic treated us and our dog with the dignity and respect we deserved. I wouldn't wish our experience with Dr. Powers on anyone. She made a heartbreaking situation significantly worse with her lack of empathy and aggressive approach. If you're going through a tough moment with a beloved pet, I strongly recommend finding a different vet. Compassion matters, especially in this line of work, and unfortunately, we received none here. read more

She came in and immediately told me my cat needed surgery hadn't even shaved him yet. Didn't explain for what. Then told me he has an extreme murmur and could pass away during this surgery that she so strongly recommended. My previous vet never told me anything about a murmur. I was a little confused and this seemed extremely dramatic. When I finally got a treatment plan and Price, it was gonna be $2050 for an abscess removal when the cat has absolutely no abscess. Never coming back here. I'd wished I'd taken him to an urgent care and paid a convenience fee as opposed to this place. Also took over 2 hours to see my cat clean his wound and administer meds. I called about getting my 2 babies they're flea meds, I was told they need an exam, my wife is unemployed and money is tight, that didn't matter to them, my babies needed to have an exam at $85 each or no flea pills. I am disappointed that I am writing this review. I have been bringing my dogs here for 9 years. They were never the cheapest but the office and vets seemed to truly care. However, the last few months I can't seem to get accurate info. When I called today to schedule an appointment for shots and med refills, the lady who said her name was Cori, she refused to spell her name and hung up on me, so hopefully I have it correct, stated that the visit and labs were done at 2 separate visits. I asked her to clarify because my last conversation a few months ago and my paperwork say something different than what she is stating. She got snarky and said whatever I will just make the appointment around May 21. I interrupted her and said hold off, I think I might take him elsewhere. I then asked for her name for a complaint and she stated Cori, and when I asked if she could spell it she said it's Cori and hung up. I called back and was placed in the que, and when a person answered I asked for the office manager. They stated he was unavailable and I asked when he might be available. They said usually in the mornings. I said ok, I will try then. Thanks and hung up the phone. Well I guess this is considered multiple dismissive and uncivil behavior per the office. I didn't realize a calm tone and asking for clarification was uncivil, but hanging up as well as her snarky tone was proper. It appears as though they are trying to separate the labs and the visit for the money aspect which is sad because they used to be about the animals and treating people fairly and with understanding. Whether it is about the money or not, this office no longer cares about how their patients are treated and allow their employees to be so rude and disrespectful. There are plenty of vets within less than a mile of this office that are amazing!! My other 2 dogs go to a vet right down the street on Mission Gorge between Cuyamaca and Magnolia, not far, and they are accurate, caring, and really try to do the right thing. We've brought our dogs to this vet ever since I can remember and it's always been a positive experience. However, we just got a new puppy and it completely took a turn. She's a rescue, so we brought her in for a check up thinking she probably had worms. Long story short, we ended up paying over $500 in multiple different REPEATED tests, medications that didn't work, and visitations. We never saw the vet we used to see every appointment, only techs. So sad to leave this review considering how much we loved the vet we've had for years, but it seems to have changed. We've been taking our little guy, Basil, there since he joined our family in 2019. Since the business moved across the street to the new building, we have noticed a decline in service quality but an increase in prices. This past visit, he developed a painful abscess on his side. He was treated, sent home with meds and we were told to bring him back in seven days for a no-charge follow up. My wife took him in and, at no request from her, spoke directly to the vet, that walked in without being requested. Guess what? That resulted in a charge of $60, because they decided to let a distinguished member of the clinic speak to us. She disputed it with the front staff but was told she MUST pay. I have been bringing my fur babies to Mast Blvd Pet Care for 35 years and have always been so impressed with the quality of their service (especially Dr Singh). Last week, my older cat, Pita, was crying out in pain and I just knew he was having trouble with a toothache (he is prone to resorption). Thankfully, he was scheduled for dental hygiene and sure enough he had to have a tooth extracted. The dental specialists took such good care of him, and he's fully recovered and feeling his old self again. Whew! Great experience, my dog had an emergency surgery recently and they were extremely helpful and understanding. My dog is a big boy, Doberman and I was worried they'd be too scared to pet him but all the girls gave him so much love and pets he was a happy boy. I also had a small breakdown when I was told he would be taken for the his surgery and the vet tech let me go in one of the exam rooms till I felt better. In early July, we went in for anal gland expression and routine blood work/cysto for my cat in order to get a dental, and he came out of that appointment sounding completely different. His purr was raspy, higher pitched, and he had difficulty swallowing. I called the office and told them he was sounding different and postponed the dental for an additional 2 weeks. I didn't realize at that time that his larynx had already been compromised during the visit. 4 weeks later, in early August, he started to sound more normal so we went through with the dental. A week later, X-rays revealed aspiration pneumonia and despite all the antibiotics, fluids, nebulizer treatments, and steroids, he died a month later because of laryngeal paralysis as a result of trauma (diagnosed from a different vet as a second opinion). They killed my cat, and I'll never go back to this office ever again. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Singh and his team (special shout-out to Christine and Tori). After our dog stopped eating, had muscle weakness, and multiple other symptoms, we took him to another local vet in the area. They ran some tests on him and saw that his kidney/liver numbers were off, and basically went with the approach of "treat everything and hope it's nothing." They sent us home with a bunch of medication and we just had to hope for the best. This really didn't sit right in my gut and I knew that I wanted to get a second opinion. I called Mast Blvd and explained the situation, and they told us we could absolutely bring him in the next day. They were so comforting over the phone and already made me feel better about bringing our boy in. Dr. Singh reviewed all of the testing and blood work done by the previous vet, and immediately noticed MULTIPLE and SERIOUS issues that were previously missed and not brought to our attention. He told us his suspicions and what he wanted to test for. While we waited for the tests to come back to confirm, they were able to keep our boy comfortable, and from what we saw, he was VERY loved on. Within 24 hours, Dr. Singh was able to diagnose and treat our sweet Charlie. Had we not brought him in, we probably would have lost him within 24 hours. We will now be forever customers of Dr. Singh and his team. We are SO grateful that Charlie will be loved and very well cared for when we bring him in for his monthly treatments. This place is full of wonderful staff who are always super happy to see my and my dog. They take such good care of my dog that she gets excited each time we pull up and isn't hesitant at all to follow the techs inside. The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly and courteous. Since I can't be inside with my dog, they call and provide updates whenever there's one to be made. I've been coming here for everything from eye surgery to infection to flea/tick control. The veterinarians and techs are extremely thorough when going over the discharge paperwork, including what to look for and general at home care instructions. They have the best hours and are open late and I'm able to get an appointment typically within 48 hours for non-urgent issues. For general questions, I know I can count on getting an answer over the phone from an experienced member of the staff. I've had experiences at other vets where a general inquiry results in "Okay, well let's schedule you an appointment to get her checked out".... But not here... they'll exercise the resources that they have at their disposal to prevent you from coming in if they don't see that it's necessary... so basically... they don't try to nickel-and-dime you, and that's such a comforting feeling as well. I stopped using this vet in 2020 after being a client for years. My dog was brought in twice in 2020 in the span of three days with what I knew was a bad ear infection. Her ear was 90% closed, skin inside "cobblestoned" meaning swollen and rough and she would cry out in pain when her ear was touched. Both times they told me she didn't have any infection. The vet (Dr. Singh) looked at me, shrugged and said "I don't know" when I asked "then what is wrong with her ear!?!" Really? Ended up taking her to another vet the following day and she DID have a raging infection and by that time it was both ears. Through treatment of that I stayed with the new vet and found that for five years my dog had been prescribed dangerous amounts of immune suppressant and cushings meds from Mast Blvd. She's 32 pounds and had been on enough medicine for a 120 pound dog. With proper treatment and lowered medication dosages, she had two more quality years and we said goodbye to her forever last week. I am glad I left this vet when I did or my girl would've declined on the amount of medicine she was, it was burning up her internal organs. I wouldn't have had her near as long had I stayed getting care here. They are expensive and the doctors just throw medicine at you and are less concerned with treating any underlying health problem that takes time and effort. The Humane Society told us to go to Mast Blvd Pet Hospital. They checked him and told my husband that treatment for the abscess would be $1000.00. It was a long list of things. My husband said he couldn't do it. Then they said he needed a 3 year rabies shot. He told them he had one, He had his license on. They gave him the shot and charged $101.00 dollars! I used to love this veterinarian hospital but now refuse to go back after my last few interactions with them. After my dog became very ill, I was convinced that it was just an ear infection by the staff. I paid for them to sedate and thoroughly clean my dog's ears (~500$), just to have them tell me they found nothing. A few days after the initial cleaning, she is still feeling bad and I could see dried blood CAKED throughout her ears with the naked eye. I called them back, just to be told it's normal and that it's allergies and arthritis. After a few visits where they "looked" and again stated she was fine, I finally took her to another vet who was SHOCKED at the state of her ears: visibly dirty/bloodied like I said, with bacterial and fungal infections. Either they "cleaned" her ears and created the infections or completely missed the initial infection and gaslit me that nothing was wrong without actually looking. My dog was in pain for weeks and wouldn't get appropriate care for overlooked conditions, regardless of my willingness to pay for multiple reexaminations and unnecessary treatments. read more
