Love the Jamerson Y. Great facility & people. If you are considering a centra VA Y, Jamerson is great.

The staff is good, the programs are good, the facility is excellent. The users of equipment in the workout room have little respect not to they follow a protocol. They monopolize the machines, they rotate with partners and lock-out users waiting in line. They act mute when asked or spoken to, looking at their cell phones. There is NO excuse for the lack of respect or this rude behavior. No one on the YMCA team manages these rude users. read more

Once you graduate from the baby weights at Planet Fitness, this is your next stop. Although some of the equipment is a little outdated, this is a huge step in the right direction. Aside from a couple guys that do curls in the squat rack and strike narcissistic creatine raged selfies in the mirror, the free weights is a nice area. The locker room however, is filled with elderly gentlemen with no apparent objective other than hanging around naked drying their junk in the hand dryer. I imagine these individuals are retired and want nothing more than to roam around a public place fully in the nude. I've come for a workout, changed, worked out, came back to the locker room to change/shower, and the same guys are sitting there naked reading a 2-day old newspaper. read more

Well I almost hate to be the first to write a review because it will be a poor one... But that's what you get when you make your yoga room right next to the room where men drop apparently gigantic dead lift weights on the ground repeatedly. I've been to a ton of yoga classes. The teacher was exceptional. Very smooth and calming.. Fair lighting. Great choice of music. People in the room next door for probably at least the first 30 if not 45 minutes were dropping weights on the floor constantly. It was almost comical. Hearing the girl next to me groan with annoyance made it even worse though. You could feel the vibration when the weights would fall. People talking in the hallway didn't go unnoticed either. Then there was some random very loud beeping in the hallway as well. I haven't been in that gym in years, but I remember it being clean. This ymca is definitely very clean. Probably good for working out, but I'd take my yoga mat elsewhere. read more

If swimming is what you're interested in either make plans to go to the Downtown Y or find somewhere else. The Wyndhurst one is very crowded in the pool area.They over-book, in my opinion, lessons and meets and it can be very tricky and tough to get a lane in the lap pool, especiallly in the summer. If there was another indoor pool near me, I woud not come here. read more

This brand-new facility is kind of hard to get to - depending on where you're coming from. Still, it's a great building - with a big pool for kids, and a lap pool for adults, a full-court gym and a big exercise machine room. Only thing it's really missing is a track. Don't know why this wasn't included in the design. read more

The staff was very nice and receptive. The outside grounds and inside of the facility are very clean and well kept. The staff gave me a detailed tour of the facility and I was impressed with how they keep the facility updated with the latest equipment. They have an excellent children's program. My family frequents this Y often and we recommend it to family and friends! read more

This gym sucks! I have never been there in the evening but during the day its horrible. The classes are so slow and boring as the other reviewer stated. We need a golds gym or ballys desperetly in forest, a real gym with a staff and trainers who CARE about what they look like :) read more

I've been a member of this YMCA for probably 10 years or more. At one time, it was a nice place to workout, but a lot of the equipment is now outdated and worn. If you want to work out between 5 and 7, you can expect an extremely over crowded gym and horrible parking lot. For the price of membership you do not get much. Yes they have a pool, but it is so over booked and crowded, I don't attempt to use it any longer. My biggest grip is the cost of membership. $75 dollars a month for family. If you do anything extra such as swimming lessons, t-ball etc, you have to pay even more money. Because it is so over crowded, I decided to go to Planet fitness which is only 10 dollars a month and right across from my work. It's not near as crowded. I was then going to reduce our membership at the Y down to a single adult, which I think is also high at $46 a month, after my wife had confirmed with the staff that our young kids would still have access to the kids gym. Apparently, we were mis-informed because when she tried to check the kids in a week later, she was told their membership cards were inactive, because the single membership does not account for young children. My wife likes the exercise classes otherwise, she would be at planet fitness as well. If we wish to have a place for our kids to go for 4 hours a month, we have to pay the full membership price of $75. I spoke directly with the membership director who pretty much stated that is their policy and there was nothing they would do to change it. I received the impression that they could care less if a loyal member for over 10 years canceled their membership or not. Equipment - outdated and crowded. Parking - Over crowded especially between 5 and 7 pm. Classes - good Kids gym - average Pool - over booked and overcrowded. Cost - over priced Membership for one adult with young children - Way over priced!!! (No consideration of single mothers/fathers). Membership Director - Never helpful and seems to be all about herself and making money. read more
