We chose this school as we had not heard or read good reviews of our local public school. He has the best time at the school and is excited to go. He saw great growth during his time there. Let me start with the positive side of this school. Most of the class teachers are super nice! Our child has been in this school for 5+ years and came across all the wonderful teachers. Per my child, most of the students are friendly and from good educational families. We are giving 3 stars for class teachers and their teaching skills. But there are several negatives about this school. Even though all parents knows about it we can't do nothing. We are not able to switch to another school as there are no better options at this location. Negatives: 1. They raise their monthly fees every year but they don't improve any quality to their services. My kid always complains about spider webs in the bathrooms and it's always very dirty. So, he refuses go to bathroom and holds for whole day. 2. No extra curricular activities like sports tournaments like running, soccer, basketball, table tennis or any competitive events for building children's physical and mental strengths. 3. No fun events; students should have singing and dancing, cultural events, talent show, etc. 4. No sports equipments provided to students; they could have provided at least these basic sports equipments: PingPong tables, chess boards, soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, etc. So, kids can have fun on recess time or after school time. We hope school administration will take necessary action work on it to improve. read more

I haven't actually had anyone attend this school, so I can't attest to the academics at all. I am reviewing the school as a location to go for a walk and take my dogs. It has a huge field next to many basketball courts. It is a great place to go and play sports or hang out in the field. If you are the only ones in there, it's possible to let the pups run freely, but I wouldn't do this if there were other people in there, especially kids. It seems like a clean place and has all the space you could ask for! It is just down the street from our house, so we walk there, but it seems like the parking is really bad during school hours. Just driving down Tamarack at that time is hectic. Definitely a great place to hang out! Looking forward to coming back here when the weather clears up. read more

We send our son to MHMS all the way from Dublin. The local school wasn't working for our child. The class sizes have grown from 20 to over 30 and the school district refuses to address the problem of getting rid of bad teachers. The district keeps the old teachers on just because they have seniority while the young, vibrant teachers are let go because they were the last ones hired. Our son is in the 4th/5th combo class. We are extremely pleased with his progress since he started attending almost 4 months ago. The curriculum offered is interesting and challenging for our son. Since the class size is so small, he has been able to receive more one on one attention from the teacher which has been amazingly helpful. Our son loves his new friends and new elective classes (he takes French, Drama, Art, PE and Computers! Do the public schools offer such a variety of classes for 4th graders?). He is also excited about participating in the after-school activities (study hall and basketball club). Overall, our son is happy and excited to go to school! Wow! I highly recommend Mission Hills Middle School. The school offers a safe and caring environment for the students to learn and grow. The teachers are young and enthusiastic about teaching. My daughter has attended the school for over 7 years now and I am a witness for all the Teachers who go beyond my imagination on spending extra money, get trained constantly and having a growth mind set, they are humans, not perfect like you or me, but I cannot denied what I see and feel in the campus. As for the administration, I stand in front of them, they almost sleep there to make sure all parents needs are heard and I have received many times, help beyond my imagination.As a hard working mother, I appreciate the before and after school programs as well of the well thought clubs for the children. My personal needs should not be involved in my children academics and well being, I reinforce rules in my household that bridge with my child's teachers for a better growth. This is what I believe is called parenting and having a good relationship with your children school. Mission Hills Middle School and Mission Hills School, are that, a place for a child to learn, play, be loved and be safe, not a place where my child's behavior can be fixed, that's why my child has a family to guide her. By the way, the school has an amazing counselor she does an excellent job at guiding students. My daughter is in 4th grade and loves school now (which has not always been the case at both public and another private school). Her teacher is wonderful, the classes are small and the school is large and well-kept. There is an after-school study hall, where she works on her homework supervised by a teacher. If she has any questions, the teacher is able to help out. Because of the small classes, they are able to individualize the classroom work. Mid-year, my daughter moved up to 5th grade math and is doing well. Special classes such as French, Art, Music and Drama are also part of the curriculum. (Yes MUSIC!) They offer lunch daily and for a single working mom, when the refrigerator doesn't offer much in the way of left-overs, this is a life-saver! Oh, and they can warm-up food brought from home. After-school clubs include cooking, soccer, music, scrap-booking, French and others. Currently my daughter is enrolled in a cooking class, where she's made some desserts I don't even know how to bake. Since it's on the campus of a former Junior High, the school has access to both the gym and the track, so on rainy days the kids still get plenty of exercise. My daughter LOVES to run, so the track is wonderful. Mission Hills staff is amazing and very supportive. There is a warm, family-type feeling to this school. The fees are very reasonable. read more

My Twins now in Fifth grade have been going to this school since Pre-k. It is amazing how much enthusiasm my girls have daily in getting up on their own to start the school day. They are obviously doing something right. Mr. Lin is their current teacher and my girls have been fortunate to have had many, many amazing teachers at MHMS. I've considered other private schools, but wanted to make sure that the school wasn't only focused on academics. MHMS has provided my girls a well rounded education, where kids can still be kids. I've watched my girls blossom and grow with the school. They have met many good friends through the years. The start of the 2020 school year with Virtual school was a change, but the school seemed to have gotten the right formula with Mr. Lin. I can't say for the other grades or the other teachers. Learning from home has truly been an experience. MHMS, has in my opinion done a very good job keeping the kids on a schedule and making sure that kids are able to interact virtually. It brings me joy when I see them laughing with their teacher and friends. I feel my girls have really embrace this new way of learning. A bit more screen time than I would like, but it feel they have really adjusted to their new online environment. They have gotten more technically savvy and have even significantly improved on their typing skills. I'm not saying that as a parent we do not have to put in the effort to reinforce their learning, but that's with any child's education. We can't expect the school to do everything. Recently, MHMS parents were asked to do a survey to get a consensus on our thoughts regarding hybrid learning. I was open to Hybrid learning, but wanted to get my girls feed back before replying. I felt that it was important to get my girls feed back since they have adapted well to the new environment. No surprise, my girls said that they preferred to stay with online learning till the end of the school year if that was an option. They are okay to wait to the following school year to do in person learning. I will see how the rest of the school year plays out. No school is a perfect fit for all, but MHMS has definitely made our family feel welcome each time we visited the school. The front desk staff know my girls by their names. I don't know any staff that I've met that I have not liked(Too many to name) As far as cost of tuition. How can anyone complain, with the cost of tuition that includes study hall and late after school care. People that complain about the cost obviously have not looked at how much after school care costs. Thank you MHMS for teaching my girls to be independent and most of all happy waking up to learning. I am a current 8th grader in Mission Hills Middle School. This is overall a good school, but there are a few things I have problems with. Let's start with the pros. Most of the teachers and students are super supportive, friendly, and passionate about what they do. A few teachers are very strict, but others are amazing. I would say that the academics are good. There are different math groups that the grade is split up in, based on your results from the math placement test and what math group you were in the previous year. If you can handle it, you can even take high-school-level Geometry in 8th grade. The campus is a good size, and there are relatively small classes that help you feel connected to everyone. However, despite this, there are massive problems with the MHMS administration. They really only care about getting your money and are extremely bad when it comes to communication with families, parents, and students. MHMS's poor communication is a major weakness. Most of the time they do the bare minimum, especially during COVID. When part of the grade was allowed to go in person if they wanted to, communication was poor with the administration. They don't always give straight answers to emails and don't answer your questions correctly. The administration is also very old-fashioned. They never use free, safe online tools that are literally there for them. They know they exist, yet they always use the old-fashioned pen and paper to do everything. Sometimes they do things that make absolutely no sense, or they tell you to do something but don't explain why, and don't give you a straight answer when you ask. The principal of the school isn't usually present during school hours, it is usually the other admin members who I believe do most of the work. Another small thing is that MHMS puts no effort at all into its yearbook. They use the same website every year and I'm certain that even I could make it look more professional. This goes to show how old-fashioned and unwilling to change they are. During the beginning of the remote learning school year, zoom links and schedules were sent out literally one day before the school year started. Same for later in 2020 when the people who wanted to come back in person could come back. Again, though the administration, the backbone of the school, has their problems, the teachers, students, and actual everyday community is great overall. There are a few specific teachers who I really love and admire, but a few that I don't. If you don't mind the administration's lack of communication and proactiveness, then yes, you should go to this school. I've been frustrated plenty of times by the admin's incompetence, poor communication, decisions, and emails, but the teachers, academics, campus, and students are great. I believe there is little to no bullying, and all the students are taught well. During my elementary school time at MHMS (I've been here since Pre-K), of course, I didn't really care or notice the administration, but the problems came to light in middle school and especially when they showed how they handled COVID. One more small thing is that MHMS's middle school math requires us to do IXL for homework sometimes, which all the kids hate. Be prepared for your student to have to go through doing IXL because it really doesn't help us excel. So from the outside, MHMS seems like the perfect affordable school. And it is, almost. It's mostly just the administration and their poor communication, but otherwise, the community and academics are great. I have a great and fun time at school even now in 8th grade, though. What more can you ask for when your child doesn't want to leave the school in the evening and wants to spend the night in the school too? Teachers and all the staff are very amicable and approachable. The puma trail method of teaching helps my son understand his concepts really well. Even in kindergarten he is so motivated to do his homework all by himself. The school has been very supportive and works with every child's behavioral development. He had the MOST AMAZING TEACHER Mrs. Pachura, with all of her help and patience our son has excelledl extremely words cannot express how grateful we are to have had her. love this school. Staff is warm and friendly its like being at home. Parents need to feel a sense of safety and comfort when putting there child in a school. You want to pick your child up at the end of the day and hear your child saying they had fun and yet they have learned something. She enjoys going to school and with that being said i cant expect anything more. My daughter is in the kindergarten and just recently transitioned from Challenger school. We had a family emergency and had to leave and upon arriving back to Challenger they wouldn't take my child back because 1. i choose not to pay the full tuition while being gone and i withdrew her. If i had not withdrew her she would have been accepted. 2 . they gave her a placement exam which was alot more difficult then the current class curriculum. Upon leaving i wasn't told of exam which i did ask. and was told she would be able to return. But teachers play politics.... I had a idea what the class was learning since i was getting insight from a few other parents while i was gone.. But i don't miss Challenger because my daughter doesn't. I previously visited MHMS prior to putting my daughter in Challenger and like what i saw. So it was a no brainier and placed her. Amazingly i have found many other children joining mid year from other schools. I look forward to placing my next child and will suggest this school to other parents. We are going on our 3rd year at MHMS and my grandson loves it there. He's in 7th grade and I couldn't ask for a better school for him to be at. They go out of there way to help him with his studies because he needs a little extra help. The office staff is wonderful, the teacher aids are wonderful and the teachers are awesome too. We have a PTA with movie nights where the whole family is invited, we have Halloween Carnivals.. everything at this school is all about the children... My grandson does one of the many after school clubs that are available, which is basketball for him. He plays on the traveling basketball team too. They have PE everyday and keep the kids busy. The school closes at 6:30 pm and that's when he wants me to pick him up at closing time... I would recommend this school to anyone.. from Pre-K to 8th grade.. read more

"Mom, why did you come early to pick us up!" that's the sentiment of both my kids when I go pick them up early. I have a 7th grader and 4th grader at the school where they have been there since Pre-K. Both my husband and I have demanding jobs. The biggest comfort is knowing your kids are safe, having fun in school and learning to their best potential. You get all that and more with MHMS. It takes a village, right? Well MHMS truly provides the extended family needed to make your child the best that they can be. Is the school perfect, no, however, the administration works with the parents and the kids to make sure that they are doing what's best for the kids. My kids have gone to Stratford and I have family members going to Challenger. The education curriculum is up to par if not more. the class sizes are ideal and every teacher and administrator knows every kid in the school. The after school clubs are the most diverse that I have ever seen M-F the kids are able to do something beyond school, with people you trust at the place they love to be. This is one private school that provides team sport opportunities which is almost unheard of at any other private school. Affordable, reliable, safe, fun...I can go on. I'll leave you with one last thought. School starts at 8:30a however, you have the opportunity to drop your kids off at 7:30a. My son is a1 st grader and transitioned from a school where he was behind and needed extra help due to him having a disability and missing alot of school they have been more than accommodating and have given him the extra help he needs. The staff Is wonderful and understanding to his special needs and made him very comfortable. Many children attend because of extended daycare that is included in cost of tuition. Class size limited to about 20 students with two teachers which makes it attractive. Parent participation is discouraged. They don't want them near the classrooms let alone in the classrooms. PTA recently disbanded because of lack of interest. Some strange rules for a private school considering you are paying compared to public school. Also rules related to parent behavior likely reflects issues with parents in the past. Leaders are not very forthcoming about teacher qualifications. Some teachers have vague qualifications without teaching credentials. This seems to be true of most private schools. The school is great, administration's great when it comes to supporting the students and families that have monies. In addition, there some teachers that are not effective with their academic teachings. There are teachers who are losing students! The students are there to learn correct grammar etc. so check your teachers with their grammar etc. Administration protects their staff which is understandable, however to keep a good reputation, eliminating inexperienced teachers should be the key. Listen to the parents! If it does not go their way, sorry your child is out or they will recommend for you to see doctors because they think that your child have learning disabilities. One teacher since the teacher's child have learning disability, the teacher treats all students in the class room as they have learning disability as well. The 8th graders had three different Maths teachers, the third one being the English teacher. The kids hardly learned the level of Maths they needed to learn in 8th grade. I don't think this school is worth putting my kids in. I have enrolled my kids in this school last year and I was not happy with it. It has many things wrong, I do know every school is not perfect but this is is just not worth it. Paying $700 and getting ??? out of it. Kids didn't even have their own workbooks, curriculum is the same as any public school so why pay $$$. The people who own it, want to make it a high standard school and they always compare with Challenger or Stratford schools, but mind you, Mission Hills is NOT even near Challenger or Stratford. They give the kids a yearly test that is one and a half years BEHIND their current grade level. They may be sweet at first just to get you in and then if you ever question something or tell them you won't be coming back next year, they will make your life hell. If you're planning to put your kid into this school, just ask the teachers how many years have they been with the school and how many years has this school been open? I am sure they will have excuses for the teachers who have left this school, think with your brain!! This school is pretty cool, with their small student to teacher ratio, and their many electives. As a former student, I especially loved history and art/computers, and I was so glad I got the typing classes I did! These two classes especially gave me an extra boost. It only that, at least when I went there, they have a problem with bullies. And don't get me started on the music class. It wasn't that great. Really. The last two years especially of my middle school years were especially rough, because sometimes the teachers didnt seem to know what they were doing, and they had no idea how to place students in classes. Because of the small class sizes, they tend to just lump the students together, regardless of level. However, to the school's credit, I am now attending the (if I don't say so myself) Outstanding Moreau Catholic HS. MHMS may have been tough, but it gave me some fundamentals! What an amazing place! We have lived in the area for years, and when it came time to look for a middle school for our girls, we looked in all of the usual places. We did the rounds of open houses and for some reason; Mission hills middle school just wasn't on our radar screen. I'm not sure why, its 25 minutes from our house, and very convenient to the freeway. At the urging of some friends we gave Mission hills middle School a call and are we ever glad. They manage to inspire middle school kids in a safe and nurturing environment. My girls need personal attention in order to thrive and this is mhms's specialty. Small class environment, serious academics taught in a fun way, outstanding math, science, humanities, language, and physical education like I've never encountered before. This Schools's cultural arts program enriches the students beyond their perceived comfort zone to create independent thinkers and world citizens. The school is across the street, and within walking distance from a person on Magen's list. When you look up the amount of police contact with the school it is high. There is a chain link fence where an adult school shares the yard and the kids are in full view of these adults. There is no uniform and the children dress provocatively. The office and owners seem intelligent and thoughtful, which is the main plus of this school. read more

I do not recommend anyone to send their kids to this school. 1. Recess and after school care At these times, kids are asked to play outside without any supervision. The school has kids from young impressionable age to middle school graders. Young kids often mingle with elder kids and pick up conversations and language that is totally inappropriate for their age. The school staff is totally oblivious and uncooperative in this regard. 2. Refunds We decided to opt out of school on 3rd day of the month. The school refused to refund the fees for rest of that month. Their administrative staff reminded us of the clauses hidden in the fine print that allows them to keep the fees. 3. The neighborhood and access road. I have never seen so many cars drive so fast near a school. The posted speed limit on the one lane road is 30 but everyone drives way too fast. It is very dangerous for the kids to cross the road at anytime. read more

Well since my daughter started 7th grade the curriculum was nice i liked how the teachers helped with the subjects. the only bad parts are that most of the middle schoolers seem to exclude most of the kids and say u have to be a member to be in that group and they want to private talk all the time. The staff should really control this problem because people are getting upset around that grade because u want to hangout with some people and be rejected what is that? and they should have a bit more people in each grade because there is not enough choices and expand the school a bit more but other than that it was a great experience the staff are very nice and generous but the gossiping needs to stop. read more
