Tuesday June 2nd, 2021…read more So the pool has been open since Saturday and we definitely had to come. It's limited in capacity at 40% or 92 people. We had a short wait of 5 minutes before enough people left the pool for us to get in. A wait list is taken when the pool exceeds capacity and you just have to wait until people leave, which typically isn't very long, on a week day anyway. I have to say the water was very chilly. So we also didn't stay longer than 30 minutes. The kiddie pool was not open. It seemed like there was no deep section and you could walk from one end of this Olympic size pool to the other. Don't bother calling ahead. I doubt they'll take a reservation over the phone. When I was there, the teenage staff were not answering. I also saw that folks had left the water running in the showers. Not very considerate given water is a scarce commodity. I'd suggest also reeling in the excess swim lanes which were just sitting on the ground gathering leaves. The price: Free! So you can't beat it. We will be back next week when I hope it's a little warmer.

This pool just opened at the MLK Jr Middle School in the Grant Park neighborhood to replace the now…read moreclosed MLK Natatorium on Blvd. This pool is a partnership between APS and City of Atlanta. The price is the same as it used to be - $4 per visit unless you want to pay $110 for the year for full use of all city natatoriums/gyms. There is free parking in the neighborhood (the school is on Hill Street) and lap swimming is open to the public during non-school times. There are locker rooms with showers onsite. Aerobic classes as well as swim team practice will be beginning soon. There is no gym here, unlike the now closed natatorium, but there is a new gym facility at the Grant Park Recreation Center inside of Grant Park.

This is our neighborhood pool and small gym. We joined when we bought a house in GWP a few years…read moreago. The pool itself is an olympic lane pool with a few nods to those with kids. The gym is very small but nice and fairly up to date (I rarely use the gym). The atmosphere is somewhere between hotel and Kawanis club - often the entire place is overrun with kids of all ages, mostly well behaved but there are times when they get out of hand and parents are nowhere to be found. There's a fountain area for little ones and those with abluthophobia. Memberships are available to GWP residents and anyone with a few thousand dollars burning a hole in their pocket. Recently a lifetime membership fell to $999 bringing a glut of new members and making the place overcrowded on weekends and holidays. The membership can be bought and sold in the event of a move or relocation. The management company responsible for running things does a less than stellar job as often the wireless internet does not work and there are frequent unexplained instances of access cards going bad. An attendant was added this year and he does a great job of keeping the pool area and locker rooms clean and in working order. God bless him - there are members who bathe their entire families and dress them for church in the locker rooms. Ideally this pool should be altered to be more of a resort style with in-water seating, more shaded areas on the deck and in the pool. A dedicated kiddie pool would be a welcome addition. There is little if any parking and that which does exist will most likely disappear as more homes are built adjacent to the pool/condos. The pool board (neighbors and volunteers) puts on at least one party a year and provide the beer, food and entertainment for members. This not to be missed event (sometimes two) is usally the kickoff to the summer season and gets to be more of a tailgate party by late afternoon. Chris always does a great job organizing and making sure we all have fun! Overall a good way to spend an afternoon especially if you live in or near GWP. You olympic hopefuls would enjoy swimming laps here in the morning or evenings. I've spent many a Saturday afternoon working on my skin cancer here and appreciate the short walk home after a few locally made margartias find their way to my tummy.

Dirty pool…read more Lifeguards are too busy in their own personal stuff: flirting, talking, on their phones, to not care what's happening in the pool. This is not just a summer job, you're dealing with people's safety I have to stay out of the pool and do their job to watch for the safety of my children - but I wouldn't go in any way anymore, because there is too much unknown stuff floating around, it's disgusting. There is way too much rowdiness - groups of kids on top of each other, kids jumping in at all sides of the pool, that I'm scared that only one of them will get hurt - but especially my own children. There are too many pieces of food around the pool that attract bugs. Most of the plastic chairs are broken.

The water was warm, thank goodness and even with some turbulence you didn't feel like you were going under. The showers and bathrooms were pretty clean.

We booked a birthday party package at Boundary Waters Aquatic Center to celebrate my son's 6th…read morebirthday. The party room accommodates up to 55 people and seats about 30. They provide the chairs and rectangle tables. You must pay in full in advance and you are either able to choose a Friday party from 5:30 - 8 or Saturday from 2:30 - 5 PM. We opted for Saturday because we figure that most people would be able to come. It is important that your guests arrive on time, because there is a designated swim time and party room time. Some of our guests were late and ended up not being able to swim. Overall, it was a great experience and we enjoyed. My son really enjoyed himself. The staff was friendly and hospitable. We also took advantage of the summer swimming lessons (including free swim week) and my son has really made great progress. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Not to worry, there are a few benches for the adults to sit and watch at a safe distance. Oh and if you decide to bring your canine, there is a small dog trail there too that you can use. There is ample seating with picnic benches and even a covered pavilion. It's a great place to host a cookout or party. With a community pool, tennis courts and a space for the avid soccer player, this park offers a lot. It's a good way to get out of the city.

So, Atlanta has a ton of parks. Most of then are pretty nice and the city I think does a good job…read moretaking care of them. Geographically, DHSP is very tightly sandwiched. What that means is, there really isn't a good way to line up your car to get in there, except through the informal parking along the Martin/Boynton corner. There is no real view of the park from a main road, and so it's forgivable if you don't notice it. Honestly, I drive through Peoplestown all the time and didn't even have a clue. The hidden-ness of the park is a nice thing though, once you get over the geography. The BeltLine passes by on a high overlook, so there is walking access to the Beacon and Boulevard crossing areas if you like. There are some features that are likely to be used more by adult groups, e.g. a baseball diamond and nice large fields for ultimate frisbee or whatever. I was there for a large-ish children's gathering. The site for this event was chosen because of the park's considerable water features (splash pad, etc), and playgrounds. The play areas are well developed, with nice safety features if needed (nice rubber coverings to protect from falls, etc). There are ample picnic tables and large metal shade installations if the sun happens to be shining in a not-so-favorable direction. Anyway, the park is nice if you're willing to put up with getting there. Once you've arrived, it's about as swell as a park could be.

There is a water park, toddler play area and big kid play spot. Bathrooms are generally clean and the open space/walking path are well maintained. Looks like solar panels even power the park. Very infrequently patronized especially during weekdays. Enjoy it ATL!

Here's the run down: 1 basketball court, 2 tennis courts, nifty water fountains with a built-in doggie water fountain (so cute), awesome playground, cool swings, a 1/8 mile lap track, a work-out area with those cool work-out equipment thingys. A grilling area/pavilion with grills. Green space inside of the track. And, for the coup de grace....drum roll please...a ping pong table (equipment not included). see you there!!!
