First visit every thing was good , second visit , misleading . They say that they will notify you of status of mower repair if they have to put more money in it to fix it . They said they did, had to get Verizon involved to go through phone records of calls . Found a one minute call, which to me does not seem like they are really trying to notify me. Worst tractor dealership i have ever tried to deal with. Needed a repair of a load shaft seal, paid over $500 for pick up and delivery. I knew it wasn't going to be a cheap fix, but I use and need the tractor in good working order. They come back with a $4500 estimate for a job that should cost no more than $2500 on the high end. For a 4 to 5 hour job, they estimated labor at $3000, not explaining price per hour or how long they estimated it would take. Next on my invoice i was being charged for 20 gallons of hydraulic fluids, the tractor itself only holds 11 gallons. My friends dad took his gator here and was told that it would cost roughly 6000 dollars to repair the gator, because the entire wiring harness, starter switch, relay, and starter was bad. After close examination, we found that a wire had been cut out of the wiring harness which would not allow the engine to turn over. These are completely dishonest mechanics, and I will never visit any James River Equipment store ever. My friend was able to fix and start the gator after replacing a few parts that actually were bad, and repairing the cut wire. James River equipment will be damn lucky to not get sued into non existence after this. read more

Just had my tractor repaired there.The fuel injection was leaking. I told them I wanted ALL rubber fuel lines replaced. There are seven of them. The tech replaced the 5 easy ones...bet left the hard to get to 27 yr old fuel lines. I called them and they said they would come get it AGAIN..but I would have to pay again. I showed her on the bill when the tech said HE REPLACED ALL THE FUEL LINES. She said she would call me back...she did not. They could send a tech to complete the job I've already PAID FOR. read more

I brought my lawn mower in for service on the paper it states clean mower deck that's what I payed for. I also had two deck wheels that I bought with me and asked if they would put them on. Two bolts and easy to get to. While they had the deck off. They charged me fifty dollars to put them on. If they would have told me it would that it would be that much l would have done it myself. Now I wonder what else they did not do that I payed for. The people who work in the front selling are great. It's service that SUCKS!!!! read more

I purchase a new JD tractor for my wife and after only 16 hours the engine started to skip and it was discharging blue smoke. I took the tractor in, thinking it was a warranty issue. I was told it would be about a week. After three weeks I called and they said it was ready for pickup. When I went to service to pick the tractor up, I was told I owed them $700. I asked for what and they said it had a clogged fuel filter. Really? I paid the bill and then called my sales rep. He said he would pass it along to the manager. After a couple of days the manager called and said that the service department had made a mistake on my bill and he would give me a store credit of $250. I told him I wanted a credit on my credit card because I would never spend another dime with them. $700 to change a fuel filter. They are a rip off. read more

Had an issue with my chain saw. Saw was down and work slowed. Walked into service department and within just minutes the young lady in service had a technician take the saw and make repairs. Talking about service, it gets no better than this!!!! read more

Best customer service ever. After discovering a mis-adjustment after service was done, James River Shelby volunteered to pick my mower back up readjust and return to me. I'm very impressed and thankful they did this for me cause I work long hours and don't know when I could have gotten around to it. I'm won over, no other John Deere shop for me. read more

So, you know the story. You do all the things to your lawn mower that the manufacturer recommends. You winterize and use some fuel stabilizer like Stabil. When you go to start your mower for the season, nothing happens. Argh! You shake your fists at the heavens then start making calls. I'd heard some good things about James River, and its location was much more convenient. My wife went to drop the mower off. "Do you have the mower?" "Yes, it's in the trunk." Associate proceeds to laugh in her face. Employee then backpedals, apologizes and says they found that answer funny. Two days later we call and ask if it's ready (our other place fixes it in a day if not the same day). They haven't looked at it yet and it generally takes 5-7 days to get to a job. In the future, they should mention that to clients when they drop equipment off. A couple days later we are asked, "Do you just want it to start, or do you want the carburetor kit/service for $240?" Okay. This mower is brand new, used maybe 8-10 times last season. And it needs a new carburetor? I also paid $280 for the mower originally. You can figure out my answer. It started once for $40 and didn't start again. Took it the distance to my other guys. Gee, it starts now. I will try to give them some benefit of the doubt that they work on riding mowers and heavy equipment mostly and serve commercial landscapers/farmers. Maybe my case was just an annoyance? Who knows? Just didn't find a lot of communication or value. So if you have a John Deere and lots of money for repairs, this may be your place. read more
