I love there pizza soooooo much, and if you parmesan cheese on your pizza this is the place to go. They have a bunch of different pizzas you can do sweet sauce or hot cheese. Everyone loves the hot cheese pizza, but it's really inconsistent. We've tried ordering extra cheese but it's the same amount as if we didn't pay extra. Still yummy, regardless. The wings are some of my favorite in the area, though. I always order well done and they're perfection. Also, if you're in a hurry, this is not the place for you. Food takes a while, so go before you're hungry, have a couple of beers with friends and enjoy time together. It's kind of a dive bar so don't expect anything fancy. When I arrived in town I was told that this was the best pizza in the coal region. The restaurant is tiny and not welcoming in any way, either from the outside or upon entering. As for the food, the wings are subpar, the pizza is worse. The wings seemed to be made in old oil and the pizza seems to be made with the cheapest of ingredients. As for the drinks I ordered a beer because the liquor bottles all had shot glasses covering the tops which makes me think they have fly problems. Do NOT eat at James Pizza! My pregnant sister and my girlfriend are both on their way to the Emergency Room due to food poisoning from this disgusting place. I've been eating James' pizza since I was a child visiting my grandparents in Shamokin. I'm now a 40-year-old man living in a NYC suburb and I wish there was a way to get this shipped out our way so I could enjoy it on a more regular basis. Although, my waist-line thanks me ;) It's really terrific, and very unique. People can keep their arguments over Brooklyn pie, Chicago deep-dish - whatevs. For me (and those already in the know) the magic slice lives in a quiet, historic former coal-mining mecca and is worthy of the pilgrimage to taste something so darn good. I just took a yearly jaunt to Knoebel's - and my mother "gifted" her kids with some take-home James' pizza for our coolers. Coolest mom ever. If you didn't grow up in Shamokin, James' (pronounced "Jameses") is an acquired taste. If you were raised on excellent NYC/New Haven apizz', this is hardly pizza. BUT, it is a unique foodstuff. The sauce is bland, the texture is doughy. Plus, they put American cheese (!) on it. NOW, order one with hot cheese and other toppings if you wish. You will be happy. Go sit at the bar. If you're not from Shamokin, people will stare at you. They don't mean harm. 95% of the people in the joint have been friends for decades. Have a "personal pitcher" of Yuengling (just order "Lager"). And be patient. And don't say a negative word about Penn State or Notre Dame. Regulars get preference. Even then, service moves like a glacier, especially on Fri-Sat. Since people here were raised on the stuff, they swear by it as pizza. I maintain it is only a distant relative to actual pizza, but it is an outstanding foodie experience. read more

Certainly unique. Polite staff, felt very out of place though as for some reason other patrons kept staring in my direction. ( I was wearing a t-shirt, jeans and boots, nothing out of the ordinary). Had only a pizza and beer, so I can't speak for anything else. This was dough, sauce and cheese, but not traditional pizza by any stretch of the imagination. The sauce was bland, the crust was unique, slightly doughy, almost under-cooked in some areas and slightly crispy in others, not sure how they accomplished this, but it made for a unique pie, which I can appreciate.Here comes the kicker, they put American cheese, yes, White American cheese on it. It was slightly burnt in some areas which again made for an interesting and not unpleasant textural difference from slice to slice, but it came out piping hot (normally a good thing) but molten American cheese is no joke. Be wary if you're not a common diner here as you will get burned,Once it cooled, it became cold and oddly congealed very quickly. The two slices at the optimal temperate for consumption were a unique departure from pizza normality, but the first and latter slices simply weren't enjoyable.
