Before heading for home, after a great weekend with family, they suggested The Dining Room. The place is eclectic and comfortable. Lots of antique furniture and items from days gone by. Our server was the sweetest. He was attentive and gave suggestions, as we made our selections. I had one of the best cups of coffee that I have enjoyed out. I am a coffee nerd! The double smoked kielbasa was so good! My omelet was delicious. The marble rye toast was even yummy. My grandson enjoyed French toast with berries and whipped cream. I was surprised by how much he ate. The rest of the family enjoyed their choices as well. A great little place. I will definitely be back!!! read more

One of our newest favorite restaurants! The food can take a little while to get to the table after you order, but it is prepared with unbelievable care and it is absolutely delicious! I can't have a lot of salt because of heart issues, and the entire staff is very accommodating to not add anything extra while cooking my meals. Even without the salt, everything has been really, really great (especially the charred brussel sprouts). There's plenty of kitschy decor to look at while you wait and the servers are all really nice. I'm happy the Shamokin has a gem like this. read more

Sunday, July 5th. In this already catatonic town --which saw better days during the coal boom --my options for lunch were bleak. Maybe a sandwich at a gas station? Yelp suggested three places along Independence Street, with a handful of ratings each. The Dining Room was the closest. With a name this original, how fun could the food be? I was wrong! I ordered a berry berry tea, and my server suggested the chicken and waffles. Huge portion! The waffles had a nice fluffy pancake-like texture. Neither the gravy nor the syrup were worth the calories. I sat outside and enjoyed a rotation of shirtless men, couples cursing as they walked, and outdated hip hop blaring from trucks, vans, sedans, and even pedestrians' cell phones. Next time I'm in Shamokin, I have to look into its music culture, and Old Forge style pizza. read more

I took a girl here on the first date. I should've been with my dad since it's Father's day, but he was miles away. I didn't have much expectations going in as it was the only open restaurant at that time. But the atmosphere combined with the food made it a worthwhile experience. I got the whiskey burger from the Father's day brunch menu. It was half a pound burger spread with cheese and whiskey drenched on top. Overall, the burger was delicious with fries. But I think the chef poured the whiskey after he grilled the burger instead of before. It's a different style than what I was used to. That's all. The first time there, was not a great meal....all due to a bad chef. They gave us a gift certificate to come back so that we could give them a second chance. Management was great. Renee the waitress was great. We came back tonight with friends. Figured let's give them another chance. I am so happy that we did. The food was delicious!! We had the appetizer sampler. For dinner, one person had steak and crab cakes, one had steak and grilled shrimp, another lemon Salmon and the fourth had the flat iron steak. All of it was outstanding!! So much flavor. The decor is nice and the staff was on top of refilling drinks, taking the table order, and cleaning off tables. The pierogy and halushki was really good. My brother liked his jasmine bowl/chicken teriyaki but said it could've been a bit larger. My mom liked the chef salad. It took a little while to get the food so be patient or order an appetizer. My wife and I were meeting a couple of friends from our college days for dessert and coffee, and decided to try the Dining Room (had never been there). The atmosphere is very unique, very tastefully using various items from the past in Shamokin. Upon looking at the menu, we wished we had planned lunch there instead of just desert. It was full of interesting and varied items. So, in addition to dessert and coffee we tried the pierogies, and they were delicious. The staff is way over the top in friendliness and attention and took time to make some conversation as well. We look forward to going there again soon when we will plan on taking advantage of that terrific menu and having a full meal. read more

Really nice lunch, took my family here and was really happy with he service our meals. A cool throw back vibe. My grandfather had a burger that looked great and came with fresh cut fries. But I couldn't resist ordering the polish picnic, a sampler dish I have never seen on a menu before anywhere. I came here for lunch with my grandmother on a Wednesday afternoon & had a lovely time. The decor is vintage mod with a modern twist & cardboard celebrity cutouts line the walls. The different light fixtures above the tables are gorgeous! My favorite table is the beautiful yellow 1950's-60's table for 4 which I call the Audrey Hepburn Table since her picture is framed behind it. The menu has a lot to offer & breakfast is served all day. There are quite a few salads, sandwiches, subs, paninis, & dinner entrees including a favorite of mine known as chicken and waffles. We both started off with the soup of the day: tomato basil bisque & it was very good & fresh. Next, I had the 6" steak & cheese sandwich garden style. It was seasoned well & the veggies were very fresh, ripe & full of color. My Grandmother had the pesto chicken panini & a side of fries. The sandwich came with a pickle on top, was full of flavorful white meat chicken, pesto and melted cheese with two very ripe tomatoes. Overall, a nice place to eat! Came from New Jersey to visit family for a few days. Decided to take a trek from Mount Carmel to Shamokin and The Dining Room for brunch. I have to say I had one of the best breakfasts I have had. Not just for the area we are talking the world:) The place is also just pretty cool looking inside and right now decorated for Halloween. We stayed in Shamokin for 3 days while visiting Knoebels. Our first night we ate at the Dining Room and the food was DELISH! The service was even BETTER! My husband and I ordered the Polish Picnic and a Chef's Salad which we shared. It was so fresh, flavorful, plentiful, and perfectly seasoned. Even with sharing we still had leftovers to take with us! Prices are very reasonable and our waitress was wonderful. The decor is also adorable, inside and out. We highly recommend The Dining Room! read more

This place was the perfect spot to stop on our way home from Knoebels. They had 10 different cheesesteaks on special. The two we tried were delish, lots of meat and a hearty roll. We got the 1/4 lb cheeseburger and BLT for the kids. Everyone got fresh cut, homemade French fries with our meals. None of us could finish our plate. Wonderful place! read more

Wasn't very satisfied with my meal or experience. I sat waiting for my food for an hour and a half and when my home fries came out, the potatoes were still hard and flavorless. We live locally and decided to check out breakfast on a Sat. morning. The menu selection is really varied. From traditional breakfast to crepes and bread bowls. I had a breakfast bread bowl filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, meat, potatoes and veges. It was delicious! Service was prompt and attentive. Portions are a good size with reasonable prices.
