After a year of coming to this medical facility, I finally meet Dr Janet Lee. Let me tell you, she's very unpleasant to deal with. I was coming in for an underlying medical issue and instead of talking about that issue, Dr Lee kept asking me about my skin since I have acne. My acne is actually a symptom of my medical issue and I was trying the holistic route to get my symptoms under control. That day, I remember thinking "okay my skin has actually calmed down and wasn't looking too bad." Janet Lee, however, made it a point to tell me "you're a pretty girl, but your acne is not okay" and proceeded to tell me about her aesthetic med spa where she believed Morpheus 8 would change my skin. Morpheus 8 is micro-needling and if I know anything about micro/needle, I know I'm not a candidate because my acne is active. Dr Janet Lee spent the rest of my appointment trying to push this service on me and telling me to save my money to do it (she told me it's about $4k for 2 sessions). This is after I asked her to write me a prescription for a glucose monitor bc my blood sugar levels is what I'm worried about. This is the reason I came in for my appt. She gave me so much push back trying to convince me not to get a glucose monitor bc "it's not completely accurate," "the monitor is going to be in the way and you're going to feel it on the back of your arm," and so on. If you want a doctor who doesn't listen and will just push her own agenda on you, please go see Dr Lee, but if you want someone more compassionate and not as incompetent, go elsewhere. I was charged for $20 for a phone follow up because I did my lab work in Janet Lee office which they gave me a choice to do it in the office instead of going to another office to do my labs there. I wasn't aware that I'd have to pay for a telemed call with my results because they didn't have the results the same day. I was referred to doctor Janet Lee by a friend. After going to her for 2 long years I finally decided to make a move and found a new professional sympathetic doctor. Since day 1 I should have known better, Janet Lee is the worst doctor I've ever met, she made me feel obese (mind you I'm 5,3 132 ) and was literally scolding me numerous of times if I drink and if all I eat is sugar?! going through perimenopause my mood swings were all over the place, my cholesterol was slightly high, instead of being sympathetic she made me feel worse. I left in tears. Furthermore throughout my whole time seeing her she would scheduled me to do numerous blood work and had to come back 2-3 times to go over blood panel and would charge a full office visit to my insurance. Janet Lee opened a cosmetic practice during my last year seeing her she would push her cosmetics on me every single time telling me I'm at the age my skin needs help and may be time for fillers or Botox. I was in shock how this doctor is soooo money hungry and all she cares is making a dollar. She does not care about your health she's rude and makes you wait over 40 minutes to see her when you have a booked appointment. Furthermore she was rarely in her office and had her nurse practitioner see patients and when I asked where she was they told me she was at her other practice (cosmetic practice). My last visit there was due to my swollen ankles I asked to see Dr. Lee and not the nurse, Dr. Lee again made me wait over 45 minutes with appointment and said I need an ultrasound, I have a high deductible and therefore requested for the front desk to assure me if there would be a cost, they confirmed it was covered because I had met my deductible. They did the ultrasound sound in the same facility, Dr. Lee said I have a few varicose veins and that she can treat them at her cosmetic facility with a laser. I couldn't believe it again pushing her cosmetic facility. Unbelievable! My last straw was when I had Covid and was not feeling well at all, I had called a few times and left her a message to give me a prescription for Paxlovid, she never returned my calls. Shortly after I received a bill for the ultrasound that they told me my insurance had covered it 100%. When I experienced sudden shortness of breath and went to Torrance Memorial, they required me to undergo a CT scan and a full-body examination. However, when I visited Dr. Lee the next day, she immediately recognized my symptoms and prescribed the appropriate treatment, which freed me from my panic attacks. She is an experienced and skilled doctor. If you live in Torrance or Palos Verdes, I highly recommend seeing her--you won't regret it. read more

I visited this office to receive my blood test result and I ended up having to wait for more than an hour just for this. (This happens every single appointment!!!!!!) However, this wasn't all. When I addressed the long wait time to the doctor (Dr. Lee), she seemed to get frustrated at my point and without even apologizing. A simple gesture could have just got it away but Dr. Lee on the other hand ridiculed me and just left and threatened. I quote, "I'm not going to sign this and I'm going to just bring in the next patient" and left. Rude, insensitive, and greedy. She tapped my stomach and said I was fat! What?! This was after I told her I just gave birth three months prior. She then performed all sorts of tests in her office (most of which I had never done during a routine physical), I believe not for actual health screening but so she could make more money. A couple of days later she wanted me back in her office (again, so she could make more money) so she could go over the test results. When I asked her to go over the results over the phone, she became extremely rude and said she didn't have time to talk on the phone and that I may have cancer then hung up! Really?! She couldn't make time for me on the phone but she had time to see me in person? Could it be that she makes more money from an office visit? And to scare me with cancer so I'd go in the office? I've seen Janet Lee for a physical exam once and she seems like a good doctor. The office and surrounding area is nice and clean. However, I do have a major complaint with her office's billing and ability to clarify what could be charged as an extra cost during a routine physical exam. The reason I say this is because I received a bill for $142 for a 15 minute follow-up call for my physical. What was supposed to be a routine physical covered by insurance with an expected out of pocket cost of $0 ended up ballooning to the billed cost of $142. When I called them, they explained that follow-up calls are considered the same as in-office visits and are charged in a similar manner. Neither during the original physical nor during the follow-up call was this mentioned. Had I known this, I wouldn't have bothered with the follow-up call at all. I've called to ask why I couldn't have been warned about this, but I have consistently been brushed off because "this is done like this everywhere." When I have called their office to resolve this issue with my insurance, I have been met with impatience and shortness from their senior staff. To make matters worse, I received another bill for $140 from their contracted lab, Quest Diagnostics, because the wrong lab test codes were submitted to my insurance. This is no criticism of Janet Lee as a doctor, but I have only had 1 visit with Janet Lee's office and yet, I already regret it. I am still trying to resolve bills with their office. If this is my experience as a first-time patient for a routine visit, I'm not sure I could recommend coming here. (To give their side, their office did offer a $40 courtesy credit for the bill. However, I would still be covering the majority of a bill that I neither was warned about nor would have agreed to had I known the full context.) read more

Here's an update. I'm a little disappointed on how Dr. Lee insists on frequent office visits even for a simple blood pressure medication refill. After talking to a pharmacist who normally fills my blood pressure medication, the pharmacist said normally physicians would offer up a year long refill subscription for a healthy middle aged individual...not 1 refill and then require another doctor's visit. I was running low on refills. Her office refused to even give a refill to tie me over until til the next doctor's appointment in the next month. This is just blood pressure meds. They insisted on a teledoc meeting (and that copay to go with it) just to get an extension. I could only roll my eyes in frustration. I get that this is a business. I also understand most people get longer prescription refills too for healthy people. And I have been using the same drug for over a couple years. My disappointment is how many separate visits I have to make in a year just to keep the prescription going. I am getting weary of all the billing events out of the year and the frequent insistence on 2 month followups like clockwork. It seems more motivated by revenue. Docking one star. And tempted to dock two. But she's a good doctor. Just her office staff seems very motivated to keep rebooking regardless of my reluctance to come back that often. I went to Dr Lee for about 6 yrs. At first she was amazing...now she's just greedy. I even wrote a glowing review of her a few yrs ago. Here is my issue with her. I have recurring oral HSV (fever blisters) every time I get even the slightest fever or have extreme mental stress I break out. There is a medication I like to have on hand that is a prescription and I take it when I can feel one starting on my lips. It's is extremely efficient at stopping the blister from developing into a huge sore. I had just seen Dr. Lee 3 weeks prior for a well check up and I later realized I was out of the the medication. I called the office to get a refill and she said no I HAVE TO COME IN for an office visit first! What? I just saw her. I have PPO insurance and of course she wanted to be able to bill my insurance for yet another office visit. I said NO! I canceled her as my primary physician and found another doctor. If you are a busy working adult she is not the Doctor for you. She will never help you out. It's just all about the $$$ now. read more

There was a tIme that I felt Dr. Lee was a great doctor. In 2019 I wrote a great review on her despite the fact that she had some reviews that were not very good do to her bedside manner and unwillingness to listen to the patient. I understood what people were saying and took that into account. However. I still backed her up as being a good doctor and very though. She was the one who detected my husbands prostate cancer because of her continued blood test. We were very thankful for that. Many PCP's do not do those blood tests regularly. My entire family and I have been with her for about 12-15 years. However, through the years I feel that her office gets busier and busier and she simply can not accommodate her patients that need her. As I read her recent reviews I see that I am not the only one that feels this way. I remember when a patient called because they were sick and needed to be seen, the front staff would get the patient in at a certain time of the day when other sick people were coming in. Now at days they are told to go to the ER or Urgent care. I was trying to explain to Dr. Lee that I felt this was unacceptable. To even tell a patient that they have to wait 3 days for a telemedicine appointment when your sick is just simply obscured. Pandemic or not, the patient should be screened on the phone. Many already know they do not have Covid due to taking a test. They simply need to be seen for another type of issue such as bronchitis. Strep throat, sinus infection, ear infection etc.... To have to go to the ER or Urgent care for this is ridiculous. You just need to be seen by your regular PCP and get some antibiotics let's face it. With all this said, I even asked Dr. Lee if I could talk to her about some things that were bothering me about the office. Her and I go back a long way. She knows I have experience in running a practice and always valued my opinion through the years. However, Dr. Lee did not want to hear what I was saying. She actually began yelling at me and really could care less what I was saying. Furthermore, she said that she had 4000 patients and didn't have time to listen to me. I was very hurt and disappointed that she basically walked out on me and slammed the door. I now understand about what people were saying in those past reviews. unfortunately, I will be requesting my records and moving along to a different PCP. read more

Sadly, unprofessional would be the best one word used to describe this practice. The staff is poorly trained, flaky, or absent-minded, and unfamiliar with very commonplace medical terminology. The whole place is run similar to a hot dog stand. There are posters on the wall to try an upsell you profitable-for-the-doctor elective outpatient medical procedures, tantamount to posters asking, "Would you like delicious crispy-fried onion rings with that?" Worst though, is the overall holier-than-thou, condescending attitude or Dr. Janet Lee, herself. Add to that her overall denial regarding the shortcomings of her untrained staff and you have an experience definitely worth avoiding. I unfortunately, originally went to her based upon her high initial Yelp ratings. I'm glad to see, however, that they are slowly going down to more accurately portray the real Janet H. I had a sinus infection and was getting ready to leave for vacation and Dr. Lee would not write me a prescription for my allergy medication. It was nasonex, not a controlled substance. It took her office a week to call me back when I tried to renew the prescription. She requires her patients to come in every 6 months. I was just in her office 7 months ago. I went to Dr Lee about 9 months ago and have finally made the decision to talk about my experience. As a young woman, I searched for the perfect general physician and based on her great reviews (at the time) landed on Dr Janet Lee. Her staff was so kind and caring, but the interaction I had with Dr Lee makes me nervous and nauseous even today. My main goals going in was to create a relationship with my doctor and get taken off of my birth control pill. When I told her I wanted to get off, she told me about how I would get pregnant and my family and boyfriend would leave me. She said this is a conservative area that would never provide a young woman with an abortion and that I would ruin my life. All of this said on the assumption that I was going to be having unsafe sex, which would never be something I do. She then proceeded to tell me that I am borderline obese. Even with my body image problems I can promise that is not the case. She proceeded to write me a long list of foods to never eat which included bread, tomatoes, cucumbers (?), and many more very random items. Keep in mind, I have a history of severe anorexia which I told her about at the beginning of the consultation. I held in tears the entire time she spoke and hearing that from a doctor triggered my eating disorder to come back. After leaving, I cried in the parking lot for an hour because I went in with the expectation of being nurtured and respected. As others have said, she is unprofessional and very condescending. If you want to maintain your self respect and trust in medical professionals, do not visit this office. Luckily, I found a different general physician who said she would never keep me on the pill when I was having such bad reactions, and that she was more worried about my mental/ hormonal health than my weight. Overall, I would not recommend this doctor, especially if you are a young woman. read more

My entire family of five have been patients of Dr. Lee's for approximately 10 years. We find Dr. Lee to be very professional,accommodating and above all thorough. I say thorough because she takes all of the necessary precautions that are needed for each patient that comes in to see her depending on your specific problem. Yes, it's necessary to have a yearly physical that includes an EKG and PSA tests for men. If she was not taking these yearly test for my husband his prostrate cancer would have never been detected. Many general practitioners DO NOT take PSA blood tests. Abdominal ultrasounds are needed to evaluate for gallstones, kidney and stomach abnormalities. Please note that Dr. Lee made it a point not to have the procedure completed unless my deductible was met for the year. I was very thankful for that. Dr. Lee is not out for the money believe me. It's wonderful to go to an internist that does not have to refer you out to a specialist every time. However, if she feels a specialist is needed, she is the first one to refer you out. If you are a regular patient of Dr. Lee's but is having an issue and has not been seen for a while, please don't be put off because they say you need to be seen. This is absolutely what the AMA, and even sometimes your insurance require the doctor to do. It's difficult for a doctor to call in a prescription if she can not evaluate the problem visually. I see many wonderful reviews for Dr. Lee and her Staff. I find the positive reviews to be very accurate. Personally, I have never felt that she has ever been rude nor condescending what so ever. It's true, Dr. Lee has a way to say things to her patients that my be very direct. However, often patients don't like to hear the truth about themselves either. Believe me, I was crushed when she told me I had to loose weight. Guess what? She was 100% right!! She helped me achieve that. Please think twice before posting a negative review. She is never ready to listen to your health concerns and just wants to say what she has to, to get going and giving medicine and make money. She gave medicine when lab results were not even out she surprised my thyroid and made me go into hypo for good and could never adjust my dose even in 2.5 yrs. a total failure. I was very displeased with my overall experience here for two reasons: Janet Lee's attitude/bedside manner and my miscommunication with the office staff. I scheduled an annual physical exam (with the intent to discuss my sudden weight loss) / and was told that there would be no out of pocket costs from my end. The day of my appointment, I waited 20 min in the parking lot and an additional hour in the exam room to actually be seen by Dr. Janet Lee. When she came in, she was quite rude - I didn't feel as though she wanted to hear about why I was there / understand my health concerns. Instead, she was very aggressive and ended up recommending four different lab tests (including a colonoscopy), which I didn't end up moving forward with because I knew the tests would be expensive and got the feeling that her objective was to make money off of my situation rather than help me. I was also expecting a blood test as a part of my annual physical, but she said there was no time and rushed me out. A month later, I was billed ~$175 because the office registered this as an "Diagnostic Office Visit" instead of an Annual Physical. I called the office to clear this up, and there seemed to have been a miscommunication due to the fact that I didn't know that when the front desk said "fully covered" they didn't mean that there would be no out of pocket costs and because I stated that I wanted to talk about my sudden weight loss. One thing they kept mentioning was that they told me / my mom that the first visit is always an office visit. However, we have no recollection of that being said. If they had made that clear, we wouldn't have gone in thinking that the appointment was for an annual physical / be so surprised about the bill we received afterwards. They did give a 15% curtesy discount for the miscommunication. However, the more I think about it, the more angry I am about the situation, because all of time and money I wasted without any more clarity regarding my health / weight loss. I went to this doctor for few years by seeing many positive reviews on yelp. Initially she used to take good care of patient's health and concerns. But recently some thing has changed. The doctor seems to push for unnecessary stem cell therapy to look younger etc ...BS. One can clearly see the shift from caring for patient's health to annoying up sell tactics. I found Dr. Lee using an app called ZocDoc and I'm SO glad I did! I was able to fill out my info online so I barely had to do any paperwork on my first visit. Super convenient. I was very disappointed with her care. I too often was told to "do my research" when it came to what medicines I could take while pregnant. I asked if I could take Sambucus while pregnant and she said she didn't know so I should do some research... (What is the point of a doctor if they don't know and only point you to your own findings...) I had a monstrous allergic reaction to something else and she told me to wait a week and see how I felt. She could see how much pain I was in and the hives all over my body and I had told her that those meds hadn't worked for me but she told me to keep at it and wait it out. Long story short, I ended up in the emergency room and they took care of it and sent me home with meds. I paid $200+ for an ER visit that should have been taken care of during my in-office visit with her. When I was in the waiting room I heard the receptionist tell a patient to "do their homework." That is unacceptable when the doctor is being paid to give us the answer, not for anything else. Their billing is horrendous and a headache. I was threatened with collections only to be told "I'm sorry, that was a mistake on our part" - TWICE! I feel really badly leaving this review because they were all nice, however, nice does not trump knowledge and experience and people should have honest feedback on this practice. read more

I am a new patient of Dr Lee. I have had nothing but a great experience with her and her office staff. I am new to area and had been looking to establish as a new patient. Her office was able to get me on schedule as a new patient within a week of my initial call, unlike other offices that were telling me 6-8 weeks to get on schedule. Then when I called office because I discovered a lump in my breast - they got me in on same day. The staff is friendly, professional and accommodating. Dr Lee has a great bedside manner and is very professional as well as caring. I appreciate her direct approach that was reassuring and helpful. I have read the other bad reviews and am not sure it is about the same doctor or staff. My experience has been nothing but amazing. I just want to say that she has totally turn my health around. I had poor circulation in my legs she Recommended a procedure that was done in the office a long with a Couple of PRP shots in an Ankle that had been broken a couple times and chose not to move with me anymore... I am now walking without any problems. She moves quickly but has learned to still listen to your concerns and take them seriously. I have had so many doctors that brush me away as just another appointment but not here.
