I experienced blurred professional boundaries, surprise billing, and ultimately a retaliatory denial of care at this office. I had several visits with Dr. Janice Chan and became increasingly uncomfortable with her conduct. At multiple appointments, her behavior blurred professional boundaries in ways that felt suggestive and inappropriate... especially considering that she is married (According to the dental board website). On my last visit, Dr. Chan told me there was a credit on my account and that no payment was necessary for a $68 appointment. This created an implied sense of indebtedness, as if I now owed her something in return. To me, it felt like there was an unspoken expectation that I should respond by writing an over-the-top positive review. I chose not to post one. Based on the way things had already unfolded, I even anticipated that this "credit" might later be reversed and unfortunately, that is exactly what happened when I received a delayed bill for the same visit weeks later. Wanting to resolve it quickly, I immediately called the office, paid the bill, and removed myself as a patient. After I raised concerns about the inconsistency, I was issued a small $28 credit and a five-paragraph email that, in my opinion, avoided addressing the issue in a straightforward way. Out of curiosity, I later attempted to return as a patient to see if the situation would be handled professionally. Dr. Chan refused, telling me "the trust has been broken." From my perspective, the trust was broken when professionalism was replaced with blurred boundaries, implied emotional pressure, and shifting billing practices. Her refusal to allow me back felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a retaliatory denial of care. In my opinion, no patient should ever have to deal with blurred personal boundaries, implied obligations, or irregular billing from a medical professional. Transparency, respect, and integrity are non-negotiable in healthcare. Unfortunately, I did not experience them here. read more

I miss Dr King. She always made me feel welcome. She had a 10% Senior discount and I was able to pay by check. A goody bag with a new toothbrush was always provided. Before my appointment started earlier this week, I was told to have X-rays. I declined. I had to sign a document that showed I "refused" X-rays. I was not given a copy. After my appointment, I was told that Dr Chan now has a policy of requiring X-rays once a year before I could make another appointment for my next dental cleaning. I find this excessive and am not sure what I will do next. My experience with Dr Chan was disappointing overall. No discount for seniors. No toothbrush. I was not impressed with the hygienist who seemed unfamiliar with my history and made suggestions that seemed robotic and were unclear. Dr Chan gave my teeth a cursory look after the cleaning with little feedback or a personal comment for an additional $75 fee. My reasons for not having X-rays are financial and I want the dentist to take a look at my teeth and evaluate my dental health based on her expertise at the time of my appointment and not just based on X-rays. As well, due to cancer diagnosis, I avoid X-rays whenever possible. I have been using the tools Dr. King taught me to take better care of my teeth and to the best of my ability, I have made good use of daily dental practices she advised me to follow. In this time of concern for patient well being, I believe it would have been helpful for Dr Chan to provide me with a discount on the X-rays or at the minimum, have a short conversation with me. Her current policy moving forward may be an obstacle for me in keeping her as my dentist. Unfortunately, she seemed uninterested. It felt impersonal. read more

Dr. Chan charged me 75 dollars for a 24 hour heads up in a cancelation that was due to my beloved cat having a stroke and needing to meet with a specialist at the same time as my appointment the next day. This medical emergency happening to my cat has been one of the most upsetting and expensive things that has ever happened in my life and even after I begged to just simply reschedule to one day later I was still charged the fee (but had I lied the day of and sent a picture of a positive covid test I would have not been charged so my kindness in giving a heads up worked against me). Absolutely heartless business. Dr Chan clearly cares more about $75 dollars than a customer who has been coming to her office for years now. I'll never return. This is moreso a review of the people who work here as human beings. I give them 1 star for being so cruel and heartless. I realize this doesn't reflect on the ability of the heartless doctor to do dentistry, but if anyone else reading this has ever gone through something very upsetting, just know that this office is full of people who are more than happy to add insult to injury when humanity could be shown instead. read more

Dr. Chan is an excellent dentist. I've had one cleaning with her thus far and it was a pleasant experience (and this is from someone who typically does not enjoy going to the dentist). Soul-less. Doctor Chan seems focused only on how to get the most dollars in her pocket; Dentistry is only a means to that end, and she's not perfect at it. Pressure on Staff is evident; the only person who seems to have been constant there this year is the sweetheart working at the front desk, and judging by the turnover there, there's no telling how long even she can put up with it. read more

Janice is an amazing dentist! I went in for a broken front tooth today and she had me in and out of the office in less than an hour. Went in for fillings, initially pleased with service. First visit was for consultation, second for fillings on four teeth. However, an overhang was left between my bottom two teeth, causing the filling to fall off while flossing. Third visit was for a fix, but assistant mishandled the machine, resulting in broken parts under my tongue, leading to canker sores and days of pain. Doctor explained they usually use DryShield to prevent tongue issues, but had to resort to large suction due to my inability to keep it in my mouth. Despite this, no issues occurred during the first filling with the same method. Still experiencing discomfort and soreness after 20 days for the fixed overhang teeth, making it hard to bite. read more

Dr. King is all you could hope for in a dentist! Skilled, kind, generous, just all-around wonderful. She agreed to see my 85-year-old parent who has limited mobility and some dementia. She and her staff were so lovely and patient, it was a wonderful thing. Not only did Dr. King figure out what the problem was with his tooth, she fixed it on the spot, saving us having to get him into the office again, and then she and her staff also helped us get him out the door in his wheelchair and helped us get him down the steps. Truly kind and wonderful people. My whole family sees her, and we are all equally impressed. If you can get in the door, you are one lucky soul. read more

Brought my 12 yo to my (awesome) dentist Dr. King after his pediatric dentist (Aloha Pediatric) punted on a tooth abnormality to experts. Dr. King had a good look, then went and asked a relevant colleague (no charge), and determined it warranted watchfulness but not immediate intervention. Noted there were a bunch of serious cavities (which went unremarked at Aloha). Upshot: Dr. King's the real deal (and my boy's now under her care). She and her staff are no nonsense. If you believe it's possible to love a dentist, then you should know I love this one. Dr. King has been my dentist for three years, and in that time I've had multiple fillings and numerous cleanings. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every experience has been fantastic. Waiting room is cozy and maintains a collection of magazines including People. Everything is clean as a whistle and tastefully decorated. Dr. King and co are always gracious, friendly and follow up with me about personal details I mentioned 6 mos earlier. It's really impressive! Highlight: ease of dental cleanings and fillings. I appreciate the delicate nature of Dr. King. Gums are treated with care when scraping and she is an absolute PRO at injecting local anesthetic. Lowlight: hunting for parking during busy times. Curbside is free 2 hour parking but opposite side of street is metered. However, they'll let you run out to feed the meter as needed. They get it. read more

In December 2020, I went to Dr. King, suffering from an oral infection. My previous dentist had recommended a root canal to address the infection, but following Dr. King's thorough examination, she determined that the infection would resolve on it's own, without a root canal, and indeed it did. She later did some very delicate gum line restoration on a tooth that my previous dentist had scheduled for a full crown, thus saving me from a second unnecessary procedure. Dr. King is a very knowledgeable and thorough diagnostician with great communication skills. She has a gentle and sensitive approach that is reassuring and healing. The office is clean and welcoming. The easy flow of teamwork between herself, her assistant Eileen, and Elizabeth in the front office helped to create a seamless and healing experience. I am grateful to have found a great dentist who provides excellent quality care. read more
