When we were deciding on a ticket for the Palace of Versailles, we were going back and forth with whether to add on the additional trip into the gardens. Was it worth it? Really? ...omg, yes! In fact, I found the gardens to be far more enjoyable than the palace itself. This beautifully crafted garden is a sight in itself. It is MASSIVE. With only 1.5 hours left before closing, we were almost at a loss on what parts of the garden to really see and explore. We spent a majority of our time looking down at the labyrinth of beautifully decorated garden mazes. There are stunning views from above just outside the palace. Parts of the gardens also have comfortable rest areas with benches, and even fountains that do shows every hour. We were lucky enough to catch the fountain shows that were entertaining and beautiful. One thing we regret not doing is getting a mode of transit to make visiting the gardens a lot easier. I wish we either had bikes or a golf trolly to drive around to make it quicker to go from spot to spot. I recommend bringing some snacks here if you can so you can enjoy the gardens and make it almost like a picnic spot for your visit.
These gardens are beautiful and extensive. We totally got lost. Signage is not great. Still, what a wonderful experience. If you are interested in history and architecture, Versailles is an excellent trip. The orderly layout of everything from trees to the paths was notable, and imagining the gardens in full spring or summer, with the fountains running and thousands of flowers blooming, was inspiring. It really made me appreciate the amount of effort that must go into it (and have gone into it for centuries). I am so glad that France has preserved so many of its gardens and green spaces--truly lovely. We stopped at a little cafe hidden among the trees halfway between the main palace and the Trianons--super fun with a neoclassical log cabin (not kidding--it had ionic-ish columns and everything).
I've probably been to Versailles 10-12 times and never grow tired of it Sure there are political and historical lessons to learned ...perhaps no one listens There are aesthetic lessons which surely everyone can appreciate But mostly I marvel at the sheer skill, force, and brilliance it took to create this homage to Louis XIV the sun god I love mostly shopping the village for a 10£ Bordeaux, cheeses, pates, bread etc and taking friends and family to experience it If you have not gone take the train out C lline 35 minutes and go back250 years in time
The gardens of Versailles are 2000 acres of gardens behind the actual palace and require a separate ticket to get in. But do not think this is just any garden, it is probably the most expansive you might visit. Once inside, you have the option to walk the gardens or rent a golf cart to take a fixed hour first through the garden. Be warned, if you go over the how math to return, you are charged extensively, and I think it is per 15 minutes. The good part about the cart is you get through the gardens in an hour. The bad part is you don't have much time to get out and explore areas of the garden, particularly the maze looking hedges with hedge entrances throughout, taking you to interior fountains. The good part about walking the gardens is you can see everything. The bad part is you'll be there around four hours walking it all. The gardens are absolutely beautiful, so much to see, and the York just be extensive, but the people providing the upkeep obviously care about the gardens as is seen in its care. To try and describe individual aspects would not do it justice, so, instead, I'll just say, if you happen to visit Versailles, do not miss the gardens, and you decided whether print for a cart or walking it is right for you
the chateau was a little crowded and stuffy inside although it was very beautiful. gardens were so beautiful to walk through and theyre so big it didnt feel as crowded as the chateau. the music in the background was a nice touch. i will say i recommend going in the spring/fall when it's not too hot
As a flower and plant enthusiast, the gardens of Versailles were heavenly! The floral and shrub arrangements are impeccable. During off season, the gardens are free but during spring and summer, make sure you purchase a ticket ahead of time (2 weeks) for the musical gardens or fountain days. We were a little disappointed the fountains were not operational during our visit, as it was a musical garden day. We took our time, didn't see a few areas of the gardens and still spent over 2 hours on our walk. Golf carts are available for rent as well.
The Gardens of Versailles are west of the palace on 800 acres. The gardens are perfectly beautiful. They were designed by André Le Nôtre who was the landscape architect and gardener of Louis XIV. He also designed gardens for Chantilly and Fountainebleau. Don't miss the Orangerie. You need a lot of time here. Learn about the history. During the French Revolution people used the fountains to do their laundry.
The garden is located at the back of the Palace of Versailles. You can basically see the entire garden from the inside of the Palace. It is huge. But note that your admission to the Palace of Versailles does not include the admission to the garden. Not even with the museum pass. B and I didn't was to pay to walk through the garden. On top, we didn't have the time to enjoy the garden. B and I wanted to head to the Estate of Marie Antoinette and was told that we needed to walk around the garden. It wasn't bad. So I can estimate or imagine that walking from one end to the other end of the garden, I would need about 20 to 30 mins. Yes it is a big garden. But I basically saw everything from inside the palace. If you have time and do really love gardens, paying for admission isn't too bad. B and I didn't have the time.
Most gardens are the size of your backyard but this place is the size of the world it's huge and beautiful. The grass is trimmed so perfect each hedge and each statue polished and clean. The fountains weren't on as it's April but there were no tourists ! No lines ! Just quiet perfectness :) almost had the whole places to ourselves, paradise. They have boats you can rent which is amazing if you want to really have a good time. Restaurants are around and the best part is the fact further down u can put a blanket on the grass near The water and enjoy a nice bottle of champagne!
Absolutely amazing and massive garden to visit in Versailles Paris. It was too cold to visit and walk the whole garden, but based on what I saw it's magnificent to see. The views and landscaping is impressive and will be lovely to see on a nice summer or cool day to have a picnic. Very picturesque place.

We booked a guided tour for visiting Versailles. The company sent a van to pick us up ( 7 pp ), and the guide met up with us at the gate. He then led us in, cutting that looooong line of people who arrived by bus. We visited the Gardens first ( beautiful gardens, the old hunting areas...) then led us through the chateau. The crowd is unbelievable, but they made us move along, stopping at the rooms to hear the description. It's so amazing. Then back to the van, and we visited the Grand Trianon, then the Petit Trianon. Here they don't allow the private guides, so we visited on our own. The gardens here are beautiful with flowers and lilac trees and cherry blossoms trees. Then back in the van and back to Paris. The visit lasted about 5-6 hours and we got to see sooo much. read more
The Palace of Versailles, is an iconic 17th-century French Baroque masterpiece. You cannot imagine the beauty and size of Versailles if not in person. We opted to hire a tour guide and I am so happy we did. There is so much to learn about this amazing lace but also, it gets extremely crowded here and to get the full depth of the history and get through this huge maze of a castle you need a guide. With that being said if you do not hire a guide there are two tickets you need to purchase, one for the inside of the tour and one for the gardens. Buy both tickets. Also ensure you get there early because the grounds are massive and there are so much to see and buy your ticket prior to arrival. This is definitely a must see when in Paris for sure ! read more

Even in November, the gardens are gorgeous. There weren't flowers in November, but it's still very green. It's nice to walk around, and even stop for a coffee and a snack at the little restaurant near the pond. If you come to Versailles, don't miss the garden! read more
the chateau was a little crowded and stuffy inside although it was very beautiful. gardens were so beautiful to walk through and theyre so big it didnt feel as crowded as the chateau. the music in the background was a nice touch. i will say i recommend going in the spring/fall when it's not too hot read more

In A Nutshell: -The Gardens of Versailles is a really big, beautiful space. -Acres and acres of land perfectly manicured can be walked or driven. -My advice to you is to rent a golf cart to cover as much ground as you can, as fast as you can. -In late June, the temperature was in the 80's, but if you choose to walk you will need a lot of water. -The golf carts are fun to drive and you won't be able enter restricted areas b/c they will stop (I tried hahaha!), also the speed is capped, but you do get some cool audio as you roam around to learn about the history. -The maze garden section is very cool. -You will find some beverage stands scattered throughout the property. Overall, I enjoy being outdoors & the Gardens of Versailles is very beautiful! read more
Fountains, gardens and a ton more fountains! Honestly, this place is fountains galore... I will say that the grounds and gardeners as this place stay busy year round as the gardens are near immaculate throughout the entire 2000+ acres of beauty. You can literally spend all day exploring the gardens and still not see it all, from the historical drinking places to the hidden grotto, this place is a gem to the eyes and provides a ton of picture opportunities for the visitors. I would advise taking a private tour of the gardens and just enjoy your day browsing the luxurious grounds. Pros- Well maintained Beautiful fountains Awesome structures Landscaping Tours Grotto Lakes Historical significance Skip the line tickets available online Fountains Cons- Water is scarce No bathrooms Large, tough to view LOTS of fountains read more

This was my 3rd trip to Versailles, but the first time I REALLY got to explore the gardens. On my prior visits, I was so tired walking and the gardens are so massive, I realized there was not enough time or energy to explore. My last visit, I made the mistake of visiting in August and discovered that this is the absolute worst time to go. The Palace was so crowded with people, that we left the Palace pretty quickly and instead rented bikes (KEY!) and truly explored the gardens. My opinion? The gardens are incredible! It took 40 years to create and there's so many other buildings to explore (Marie Antoinette's private villa, 17th-century Grand Trianon, etc.) Because these other buildings are so far from the Palace, many people don't walk to these structures; even in the busy month of August, I was able to explore these areas with no crowds. Plus, with bikes, the property is so large, that we wandered out of the gardens into surrounding farm lands. Amazing. You can also rent golf carts, paddle boats for the Grand Canal, but the bikes allowed us to explore better. Manicured lawns, flowers, sculptures, fountains, etc. So much to see and so little time. read more
If you have a day to kill in Paris, I highly recommend trekking out yo Versailles and strolling these gardens. The grounds are pristine, the design enchanting, and you will feel like royalty, if even for a few hours. What is spectacular is that you can view them from above to appreciate the amazing design and thought that went into them, realizing that the design was created over 350 years ago. read more
Depending on the season, I recommend getting to the castle early in the morning first, walk around and take some amazing indoor photographs, before migrating outward and enjoying the natural (and man-made) scenery with a nice stroll. The garden is completely free and you don't need any tickets. Unfortunately, we got here fairly late and didn't get to experience the entire garden, but hey it was also November, so not many living plants were available for photoshoots anyway! read more
A peaceful piece of a prime Paris real estate Le Jardins de Versailles is. The Jardins (Gardens) de Versailles joins the Chateau de Versailles as the garden that just exemplifies the beauty in the world. The Jardins occupies the grounds of the Chateau de Versailles and is the quintessential love affair that Queen Antoinette had during her reign as the queen of France. The Chateau was the king and queen's summer palace and the gardens were a perfect example of luxury defined on royal terms. It is amazing to see the gardens so pristine and tranquil that I could just stay here forever and not be amazed at this landscape. Unfortunately for me, that's not the case at all. I had about 45 minutes to explore the jardins and then it was time to go. It was definitely a mind blowing experience and a nature lovers dream to be in a place like this. Not to mention art lovers who would definitely kill to have a subject like the jardins to paint and marvel over. Yet, in the absence of sitting royalty, the jardins and the chateau herself provides the perfect get away from the city of Paris whenever you need to. The Chateau de Versailles and the adjoining jardins is just a 20 minute train ride from central Paris via the RER "C" train. The cost to get there is minimal compared to the invaluable memories you will rekindle when discovering (or rediscovering) the jardins or even the Chateau each time you visit. Like the Chateau, there is an entrance fee to visit the jardins. There is also a little train that will take you around the jardins, but that cost like 7.5 euros per ticket. I basically walked a lot through the jardins, making memories, and just enjoying the fact that I was here and having fun in Versailles and Paris! The jardins de Versalles is definitely a do while you are at the Chateau sightseeing. The reflecting pool and the sculptures around the pool reminds us of a time where everything was chaotic, yet beautiful are same time. Where royalty was the authority of the land and loyalty to them was the rule rather than the exception. Indeed, the jardins is one best place to be in, if you get a chance to be here. Be prepared to spend at least 1 hour here, if you have the time. The entire experience was definitely breathtaking and would definitely would love to return, if I return to Paris. The city of Versailles surrounds itself around the Chateau and the jardins. After my visit to the Chateau and the jardins, I picked up some souvineers from a nearby shop, got lunch, and hopped back on the RER "C" train back to Paris. Nothing much else here in Versailles other than the Chateau and the jardins. If anyone can let me know, I will be appreciative and put that on my do list for the next trip. Still, the jardins at the chateau de Versailles is a definite must do. Whether you are an nature lover or just love being outdoors, the jardins are a perfect way to de-stress and remember where you are. Paris! Support local! A++ read more
It's a nice big huge and never ending garden. The tickets are separate fro the main entrance. You have to fall in line again or get the passport ticket so you have access everywhere. Rent a golf cart for 38 euro for the first hour and 8.50 Euros for every additional 15 minutes. You need to be at least 24 yrs old to rent. And you have to leave your driver's license until you return the cart. read more
Very much worth the entrance fee and also worth the walking! If you ask me, I would much prefer paying for the gardens than the Chateau. Highly advise visiting this wonder during the spring or summer time. Amazingly beautiful and vast! read more
Chateau du Versailes is a must-go destination, but if you can't go for whatever reason - long line or sudden strikes - the garden itself is also worth a train ride from Paris! Once the regal garden of the Sun Kings, this gardens has so many art works that it's basically an open-air museum. If you thought the palace was huge, just check out a map and see how much bigger the garden is! Even at the scale of a park, this garden is perhaps the best manicured and maintained garden I have seen! At every corner and every turn, you'll find many familiar sculptures because they are often imitated throughout the world, but the sculptures are not the only masterpieces in this garden because even the green arrangements are artwork themselves. Don't just cease at the large fountain immediately behind the palace! Stop by the Latona Fountain that is surrounded by rings of frogs that are associated the the myth. Stroll down the main promenade lined with Roman gods and goddesses. See for yourself the impressive Apollo Fountain that shows an emerging God of Sun in his magnificent chariot! Walking in the cold may be miserable and summertime is the best time to explore, but wintertime isn't an excuse not to see this beautiful garden! You can rent a bike or a ride, so no matter how you do it, you have to explore the famous Gardens of Versailles. --- HOW TO REACH: Your regular t+ TICKET will not be enough, but you can easily buy a return trip to Versailles at any metro station. Simply go to any kiosk and select the Versailles station as your destination. For less than €12 round-trip, Your ticket will cover your trip from any metro station to transfer at the nearest RER C station, and vice-versa on the way back. BEWARE that there are two RER C trains that go to the same direction but different destinations! Fortunately, Versailles is one of the two terminal stops so be sure to take the one that terminates there. Duration (From St Michel near Notre Dame): 45 minutes one-way --- tl;dr version 1) Usually opens even when the palace is not 2) Massive park that is essentially an open-air museum 3) Definitely worth the train ride to see the most beautiful garden! read more
Among the gardens of the world with mazes that you could possibly get lost in, this is tops! I realized this late, but you can rent golf carts, bikes and boats, but at the opposite entrance far from the castle. You see, we started with the castle. If I was to do this over, I'd start with the garden in the opposite entrance so I could rent that golf cart or bike. At the time we visited, there were temporary (thankfully) modern art installations by Anish Kapoor. He had these reflective discs that basically reflected the already bright white-hot sun, nearly blinding everyone who laid eyes on it. read more
