During one visit, we actually helped another customer load up some mulch in her car. The staff saw us do this and we've all been best of friends ever since. It paid off to our advantage as we later found a plant we wanted but wouldn't fit into our car. One of the staff said, 'no problem' and offered to deliver it to us. Not only does the team rock at this location, they also have a great selection of plants. They obviously don't have the space to offer as much as the Edgartown location but they make up for it with their service and can-do attitude!

When I call to order whatever it is I'm looking for, the staff is always very helpful, knowledgeable, and direct. They don't try to upsell me and always work within my budget. A bunch of years ago, I sent my mom a hydrangea, and they delivered and planted it for her. A few years ago, I sent her a couple of lilac trees, which they again delivered and planted for her the same day I ordered them! The bushes thrived and bloomed a month later when in season! This past Mother's Day was no different: I ordered a bouquet of pink and orange flowers without any lilies (they make my mom sneeze!), and they delivered this GORGEOUS bouquet the same day I ordered that absolutely delighted my mom! I find Donaroma's consistently high quality, reasonably priced for the island, and reliable for timely deliveries! I would recommend them to anyone!

By far the best nursery on island. Most of the plants are grown here from seed--so they grow on…read moreisland and are ready for planting. Unique to Heather Gardens is the sense of locale (and therefore local); you can buy small and grow, annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables. For residents or long-time summer residents this is really helpful to buy to grow not just to beautify for today. this results in much better pricing than other nurseries on island but yes some extra work. We have purchased larger plants, some from off-island here (like our favorite roses and hydrangeas) and they have been much more suited to this climate than those we purchased at other nurseries. ESPECIALLY the hydrangeas. Usually they are in root balls not those ubiquitous blue plastic containers, so they adapt to the transplanting better and mature quickly. It is easy to load your car, with both plants and the manure/compost/mulch options. They will help if you ask--but generally they leave you alone to enjoy unless you ask for help. We transferred our garden purchases to Heather Gardens several years ago and have been able to have many more plants (we are willing to purchase when they are small) and more interesting plants / less common plants then the standard gardens on island. This is a nursery for gardeners--if you are looking for garden decor or instant beautification it has some options--but that is not the focus.

We spent thousands of dollars on their plants AND landscaping services. They showed up at our house did the work without notifying us. We had explicitly asked that they give us a heads up (which one would think is common sense), as we had guests staying at our home and we live across the country. We expressed our disappointment on how everything turned out (it looks terrible) and were assured they would make things right. Well, we paid them in full, and now our emails are going unanswered. There is ZERO attempt to make things right - even though we paid despite their negligence. There are many landscaping companies and nurseries on Martha's Vineyard, do yourself a favor and avoid Middletown at all costs.
