Amazing food, great prices and wonderful workers. We live down the road and eat here awful.

After seeing this restaurant pop up on commercials as the best burgers in central Illinois 100 times on a Cardinal Cub game, I decided to give it a shot and see if there was any validity to their claim. There was not.... Pulled up and ordered a double cheese burger with everything and a French fry and large Coke. Their pricing is way more expensive than any other independent burger joint and they nickel and dime you pretty hard on the items. 70 cents more for lettuce and tomato each, which I understand and that's typical for most restaurants anymore. $4.35 for a French fry that was old and tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for an hour wasn't worth it. Their large drink was a medium and it was like $4-5 too, but the coke had the worse metallic taste to it like the lines were serious dirty. Was undrinkable. So you are looking at $20 before tax just for a "combo" which they don't offer... Let's get to the sandwich- it wasn't special and for $9.35 for just the meat, cheese and bun wasn't worth it either. They put condiments on the bottom bun which made it a soggy mess and when I went to pick it up, it was like wet dough because how soggy it was. Pretty sure it was one single slice of cheese and the burgers weren't thin and crispy but seemed like they try to make them like that, but I am guessing the size of each patty was 5-6 oz each maybe, so that is more meat than other typical independent restaurants. It almost tasted like charred or burnt and just wasn't special. Would I return? No, it's not worth the drive or the price for their products because everyone of them Had issues and was the most expensive "combo" I've bought at a tiny local burger joint. read more

Great Ice Cream! I'm vegetarian so I don't eat the meals so I have no idea what it is like but you can never beat the Lemon Cone or Banana Malt! Their weekly flavors are usually good. It's too bad that they close in October. But it's still great nonetheless. read more

I ordered a double cheeseburger expecting it to have about a half inch of meat on it, but when it arrived, there was an inch and a quarter of meat! Next time I will order the single cheeseburger and add lettuce and tomato for $0.30. Burger was similar to Steak & Shake with it being crispy. but it was twice as thick and juicy. OK, So I will say this up front- I grew up about 3 blocks away from this place, so it holds some pretty fond memories for me of ice cream and hamburger BBQ... That out of the way, I will say if you ever happen to be in Farmer City IL, you do need to at least stop by. There is nothing particularly 'special' about the food, but they do have a pretty darn good cheeseburger that my cheeseburger aficionado son puts on his "Top 5 best burgers" list. . .Resembles a Steak and shake burger, but is juicier, bigger, and cheaper. . Their ice cream selection rotates regularly, and is a good value and flavor. For those of you who have ever been to Rhea's (1 2 or 3) it is very similar. The place used to be seasonal (late spring to mid fall) but I can't speak for how it is now. It has changed owners a few times over the past 40 years, but I have never been disappointed with the service and food. Always solid "drive-up-diner" food. It won't qualify for "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives", but it does kinda fit into all 3 categories :) read more

The food was alright, terrible service though. The main cashier misheard our order and took it personally when we came up later to correct the mistake. She shouted at my friend's 13-year-old sister as well as my cousin and we paid for another milkshake to make up for the one that they forgot to make. If I eat here again (which I probably won't), I will be getting a pickup order to avoid any more hostile cashiers. read more

This is a great old-fashioned burger and ice cream place. There are tables inside and there is also a covered area with picnic tables outside. The breaded pork tenderloin, burgers, and fries were tasty but the ice cream was the real star of the meal. It hit the spot on a hit summer day. read more

I tried this place after seeing an add on the TV morning news. Had seen the billboard once but wasn't open in the winter. It was a good burger, better than the fast food joints and also had the option of fried mushrooms you don't get at McDonalds. Nice outdoor eating area with a roof to keep off the hot sun and rain. Some of the best home town food I've had. Atmosphere is great, small dining area but well lit, nicely decorated. Food and ice cream is wonderful. A little pricey and a bit of a wait because they hand cook everything, but worth every penny and second. read more

As a Farmer City resident, I love Dewey's! Kind of a bummer that they only accept cash, but I can deal with that. I love the burgers and the lemon ice cream! The fries are pretty good too. My new favorite thing there is the sweet potato tots! The waiting staff is usually really nice and I never have to wait long for my food. I know some of the prices have gotten higher, but that's just a sign of the times. It's worth it, seeing as it's our only burger and fries place in town! read more

Dewey's is open now - July 1, 2011 - and our family enjoyed the food tonight. We tried several different sandwiches, onion rings and fries and we agreed the food was good and the price was reasonable. The lemon ice cream was a real treat. Decent food but nickel and dime you. .25 for faucet yuk water. ..75 to use credit card. They charge 4.80 for 12 tiny cheese curds. Flavor of the week was lemon.. that machine wasn't working. Fries were ice cold but then gave us hot ones. Can do better. read more

It's a lot of oversell and overprice. The food is only only fair and yet it is priced as if special.

My friend and I went and were disappointed. There was quite a crowd there and it was opening weekend, so we'll give it another try later, hoping there's more outdoor seating, fewer flies. I'm very disappointed in this. They are only opened a limited time during the year, they're way over priced for the quality and portions, they don't accept anything but cash, and although the food is made to order and fresh, it's nothing to brag about. The ONLY two things that are even worth getting out of my car to order is the Banana shake and the lemon ice cream. Even the staff is below average, lazy and slightly rude. If they REALLY want advice, I'd recommend setting new hours and staying open for longer than just the race season so you can afford to lower your prices, set up either a drive through or a car hop, and either accept something other than cash or invest in an atm on premises. Another idea is to either properly train your staff or hire new ones. The food might not be phenominal but if the other things were to change, it'd be worth going there for atleast.
