What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

The meal we had on the weekend was up to their normal excellent standards. The ambiance of the restaurant is pleasant with soft lighting all round and a beautiful tropical fish tank to complete the look. The Balti House is extremely popular, especially on the weekends, so if you are thinking of going the best advice as ever is to book in advance. A call in the day is normally fine but don't be surprised if their is a lengthy wait if you turn up off the cuff.

The greeting on entering the restaurant was first rate with three people there to greet and two behind the counter. Though we didnt eat in the restaurant it looked very clean and the conversations at the tables were muted by the soft surface in the room. As one of our party is in a wheelchair they commented that they were equipped for guests with disabilities as a number of their regular guests were in this category. The main dishes were similarly flavourful and complex. The only fly in the ointment was the service. It took ages to get our order taken despite the fact that there were three members of staff stood chatting by the bar. Later when we wanted our empty plates collecting and order some sweet nobody was around at all. When eventually one member of staff did arrive there were many tables that all wanted servicing creating unacceptable delays. Overall it should have been a 4/5 star review, but the poor service has dragged it down, but the food was so good I'm going to be generous and still give it 4*. Recommended, just don't be in a hurry.

That said a taxi to The Bombay Bay shouldn't be hugely expensive (and it's worth getting there) or you can take a short walk along the seafront, or from the nearest bus stop. The Bombay Bay has it's own website and as you can see from the menu online the prices are excellent value for the quality of the food. The pictures are representative of just how nicely the meals are presented. I was surprised by the generously sized portions and very pleased as all the dishes I have tried have been delicious. The restaurant is very clean with a nice atmosphere and well placed tables and for those who smoke, and those who want to enjoy the view and a spot of fresh air there is also a balcony which is a nice bonus.

But to sustain a business sometimes you have to branch out to lure in more custom. Whilst the burgers and pizzas aren't up to much, they're cheap and at least on offer. As you would expect, Aysha soar in the curry department. The Bengal Noodles are lovely, cooked with chicken and chillied herbs. Another notable dish is the Garlic Chilli Chicken, sublime. Most curries are well priced and all come with rice and salad, but they are all top quality.
