I am not a professional photographer. I do not have professional equipment, just a Canon Rebel DSLR. The workshop did not state where or what we'd be shooting and I was concerned about my experience and equipment requirements for the workshop so before the workshop, I spoke to Jason and he assured me that I would have a GREAT experience. It definitely was NOT! Because Jason did not preselect our shooting location, we drove and drove and drove some more, looking for a place to shoot, wasting a lot of time! Someone (?) challenged Jason to shoot the model in only clothes and accessories from Walmart. We wasted an hour sitting in the parking lot while Jason went shopping with the model. That night we shot at Moundsville State Penitentiary. Jason chose to shoot in a cramped area, much to small for our group. Being in the back, I could not hear nor could I take shots. I felt like it was more wasted time. When we shot in another part of the prison, his assistants helped me while Jason concentrated on taking his own photos to post on his website. Several times during the workshop Jason commented that fat people don't make good subjects because, well, they're fat and he said because he could stand to lose a few pounds he could say that. He also ridiculed the fuller figured women of a wedding party about a jump pose they wanted to do. I felt this was VERY unprofessional to insult and laugh about paying clientele. The second day of the workshop we shot in a closed theater with no electricity - another low light situation which limited where I could shoot in the theater. The first model I worked with that day was green, like me, and GREAT to work with! She posed as I asked, eager to do a good job. The second model, whom Jason has used previously, was the opposite. She INSISTED on climbing up on everything, like a monkey, despite being told that the up angle would make the photos nflattering. Indeed, 99% of her photos made her backside or her thighs very large and disproportionate to the rest of her body. When I asked her to pose a particular way, she got an attitude. During a break, I overheard her insulting me to Jason's assistants. By this time, I'd had enough and left the workshop, disappointed and angry. While I would not take another workshop from Jason but I would highly recommend taking a workshop from either of his assistants! They did a great job trying to ensure that I had a good experience, answering questions and helping me get shots. His assistants were fantastic! Jason takes beautiful photos but the workshop was definitely not worth the $450 my husband paid as a birthday gift to me. I would only recommend this workshop to pros with their own studios. This is NOT the workshop for the novice photographer! read more

I have followed Jason for about a year, I love his creative style and techniques. When I found out he was planning a workshop in my area, I could not wait to attend. I had read some of his reviews that he could be a little obnoxious and all about himself so I was prepared for this but still wanted to attend his workshop. The very fist morning, I met Jason, I found him to be very warm, funny, enthusiastic, and very talented. His class time was amazing and I was learning so much, my head was spinning. He is very funny and entertaining while he teaches. The "all about himself" part I found to be very helpful. Jason tells you straight from his experiences. Yes, he talks a lot about what he does, but he tells you what worked, what didn't work, what to do and what not to do. He is very straight forward about this. He throws no punches. Take it or leave it, its the good, the bad, the ugly of his career thus far. I found this extremely helpful because he went through exactly what I am going through, when he first started out. This makes your mistakes seem normal and something you have to learn from. You learn a lot from his experiences. He is extremely knowledgeable in Lightroom as well and teaches like you are the only one in the room. He's amazing. Then it was time to go on a photo shoot. All I can say is WOW! Watching Jason work, I found sometimes, I forgot to shoot! I was in awe of how he took control and staged everything down to the fingertips, or placing your foot in the right place. Tips and tricks, I will never forger. Hopefully. I always loved to take the natural "unposed" wedding shots. You know, "capture the moment". One of the things I loved about Jason's work, so natural! Well, we learned the secrets about that too!!!! OH MY!!! (If you want to know....take a workshop) I look at photography so differently now, Jason brought out the artist in me that has been dormant for so long. So in summary, if you love Jason's style of photography and get a chance to take one of his workshops, GO FOR IT! You will be amazed by the artist, the teacher, the man and most of all, the friend. He will find your strengths and expand them, he will find your weaknesses and get rid of them. He will teach you the art of composition, the art of exposure, the art of editing, the art of photography and the art of being human. You will begin to see the world differently through your lens. Since April of 2012 I have personally attended 6 workshops from NH to CA... As far as the workshops I think my number of workshops attended can attest to how I feel about what I've learned... So now I will personally take a few moments to see if I can put words together that will make sense.. Like my photography does now, Thank You Mr. Lanier ...... I've watched Mr. Lanier conduct himself with great pride with his clients and making sure that they have all their questions answered, time to take shots in the workshops and has gone all out to make sure the experience is fun as much as a learning experience, Sometimes he has gone over the time lengths of the workshops. Many times to just keep shooting and enjoying the company ..... In NY we shot for almost 15 hours each day!!! ... he gives extra time and his one on ones are just that...person to person/ no other distractions....and all Your questions are answered in detail.... and with hands on practices with any areas you would like to do better..... To the one reviewer of a potential client: I believe Mr. Lanier has great confidence in his work and he gives his workshop clients great confidence in there abilities not just to become great photographers but business owners as well.....I believe his way to handle conflict or negative sources are beyond exceptional , I do believe that when someone thinks they have been wronged, he apologizes. Plus as a business owner I would hope they'd try and rectify a bad review issue, by offering their services again. I personally find this to be a very mature and admirable trait from a business owner to try and correct what a client portrays as unhappiness over a situation. I look forward to working with and learning from , for many years to come with Mr. Lanier.. The confidence alone that I have learned and admire from him is worth every penny I have spent to achieve my goal of being the best I can be at what I love to do, and learning from someone who is willing to teach in the way I needed to learn... I had the most wonderful experience with Jason as my wedding day photographer. From the moment I contacted Jason, I felt grateful to have the opportunity to work with him. I attended one of Jason's workshops in Dallas, TX on August 11-12, 2015. Bottom line is that the workshops are a blast and one of the best things you can do to improve your use of a camera and lighting techniques. Jason and his crew are open books and they love to teach and help people improve. At first it is a ton of information to take in but by day two it starts clicking and you really start having fun and taking great pics. Jason will talk about gear, business experiences, posing, lighting, exposure and many other topics during his workshops so there really is something for people at all levels of photography at his workshops. Keep in mind that these are not portfolio building sessions but workshops where you come to develop skills. Come to learn and participate and you will have a great experience. If you are looking for a pre set studio session where the teacher just sets everything up for you then this won't be your thing. Jason and his crew want you to learn how to run your gear and get the most out of it that you possibly can. This workshop was the best thing I have done for my photography to date. If you come to one of Jason's workshops my advise is to come with two or three things you want to work on and concentrate on those. Jason has been such an inspiration to me as photographer his work is amazing to say the least. Back maybe 2 years ago I was trying to figure out what kind of lens to buy, after seeing Jason's photography online I called him and he he talked to me about what I needed for the kind of photography I was doing. Jason took his time in explaining what I needed and why. I couldn't believe I was actually talking to the man that took all the amazing photos I had seen. I was and am impressed by Jason's knowledge and willingness to share that knowledge with me and yes on the phone. My friend asked if I would assist Jason Lanier at a workshop she was attending...... I was like Jason...who. I had never heard of the guy and wasn't interest in any photography that involved people. But to keep her company I agreed to go.... What a great decision that was..... Jason is a truly awesome dude. He is one of the most enthusiastic, talented photographers I have had the pleasure of meeting. He shared with everyone at the workshop his knowledge, skills and ideas......he radiates kindness and makes you feel very comfortable. As an outsider not participating in the workshop I was able to observe him take the time for everyone on a personal level and believe this one on one time to be very beneficial for those amongst the group that were not as confident in their abilities as others. I attended one of Jason's workshops in San Francisco and it was great. We shot the first day in the Palace of Fine Arts and all over the city including a really cool night shoot of the cable cars on Polk Street. The next day we went down to the Muir Woods which was so much fun, although I got a little sick on the drive there (no fault of Jason's). It was really neat seeing him shoot and teach us to shoot landscapes inside such a beautiful place. He even took the time to teach us time lapse photography so we could capture the water flowing with the creamy look type of a thing. I've gone to a few other workshops and I think what separates Jason is that he is so down to earth and isn't afraid to teach us everything. Yes he's very confident in what he does...but with good reason. Since attending the workshop my photography has really started to grow. He truly helped me to learn about posing, lighting, composition, and more. I think the most important thing I learned was how to act with other photographers in a professional way. So many times photographers are so territorial and don't want to teach you anything. Simply put he makes it super fun, and it just feels so easy. I recently attended Jason's two-day workshop in Tasmania, Australia. After the initial pleasantries, Jason's comment to me was that I looked excited. I sure am after flying all the way from Western Australia. I was thrilled to meet Jason in person and to be able to learn from the master. He did not disappoint. Jason explained camera settings, lighting options, model posing as outlined. We were provided ample opportunities to ask questions. Jason also checked on us frequently in case we encountered issues. We travelled long distance to locations but well worth it. Otherwise I would not have travel to these off beaten path. I had a ball with fellow attendees. A lot of my photos were out of focus as I could not stop laughing. The models were great to work with. Jason highlighted that there is no way for us to learn everything from him in two days. I truly believe he has given me enough tips to practice and improve my photography going forward. I would love to attend Jason's Real Wedding Workshop in the future. I just want to say that Jason Lanier Photography is AMAZING! My wife and I used Jason for our wedding after finding him on the internet searching for wedding photographers. We called him and he was the nicest guy you'll ever meet. And what really stood out to us was the fact that you can tell he truly loves what he does and cares for his clients. We did both an engagement shoot with him as well as our wedding. The pictures were PHENOMENAL. Earlier this year, I attended a Jason Lanier workshop followed by a one-on-one session. I learned more during the time I spent with him than all the college classes, workshops and seminars I've ever attended combined. Jason is an amazing photographer as well as a gifted mentor. Everything I had ever studied (as well as techniques I had never heard of) suddenly made so much sense. I have been a fan of Jason's work for some time, mostly looking at what he does with OCF. When I saw that he would be in Vegas I emailed him about his workshop because I was unsure on which one to do. He was amazing and said if I did the 1 on 1 workshop w/ him I could do the other one for free.. WHAT? Who does that? I think it was my charming personality .. lmfao :) . Wedding pictures are priceless but this photographer fails to deliver. I paid thousands and now I have nothing to show for it. I want others to stay away from this photographer, Jason Lanier too. I didn't get everything I paid for. The photographer, Jason Lanier of Jason Lanier Photography missed the event. I got a call just before the ceremony. He was drunk. "He said he was running late but he would be at the wedding on time. Half and hour past, and no Jason" He never showed. I paid a substantial down payment and I just want my money back. But I can't reach him. After checking the internet we discovered the business is not even listed with the Better Business Bureau, and so did eight other couples. read more

Talk about a Great time and a Super learning experiance..... Words cannot express the happiness and since of fulfillment that attending Jason Lanier Photography workshop gave me. The information that he provided was eye opening and awakened my creative "lighting" eye. The images that he captured and created right before my eyes were breathetaking straight out of the camera. I recently attended Jason's workshop in Tasmania with 8 other photographers and I can speak for us all when I say we had a great time. The workshop flowed nicely and was facilitated very professionally by Jason. The models we had were of high class and worked with all of us like the professionals they were. The 2 days flew by and we were left wanting more time with Jason as he has so much knowledge which he happily shared with the group. If the funds allowed, I would have attended all 3 workshops that are being held in Australia. Jason please look us up if you come back to Australia as I would be nice to catch up again.
