Honestly, I only came through because I wanted to make Big Bro jealous: he carries the same name. (Insert smirk here.) And the irony: we discovered this place at the same time. We just didn't get the chance to stop by.
Unplanned it seems, I somehow found myself somewhere in its vicinity. I asked around about it beforehand and I heard good things. Mostly how good and how cheap their food is.
A bit of back story I heard: Although Jasper's is known for their pancit, they are also mostly designed for starving students. They have what they call "sulit buys" specifically designed for them. An example is one dish, rice and glass of water for the bargain price of (I believe) P50Php (less than one US dollar.) I almost opted for that because their pre-cooked homemade dishes all looked soooooo good!
But I was there for the noodles, so trying their other dishes will have to wait for (that guaranteed!) next time.
Mom and I went for the Batil Patong (Overload) for one reason and one reason only: other than it being a noodle dish, we had NO idea what it is. The rest of our party got the Pancit Cabagan (Overlaod.) We also ordered a couple sides of siomai.
Everything was cooked to order. The siomai could have used a bit more time in the steamer, but good enough to eat. Filling was full of flavor. Added calamansi and soy sauce as dip made it better.
So I think the difference between the two noodle bowls we got is that one came with boiled egg (Cabagan) and the other came with fried egg (Batil.)
BATIL PATONG: It's an incredibly busy looking dish but visually pleasing to the eyes. There were so many components in it that each bite was almost different to the next. Noods were cooked with a good chew. The egg yolk added texture. The fillings and meat they used were seasoned well. There are sides of seasoning available (soy sauce, fish sauce, chili oil, etc.) to make it your own. Adding calamansi juice and raw shallots elevated the flavor somehow.
FOOD: 4. Quality and quantity.
SERVICE: 4. Friendly staff, always available when needed.
VALUE: 5. It truly is good and cheap eats!
PARKING: Private spots (I believe there were either three or four) up front. We lucked out and got the one remaining unoccupied space. If you can trike it here, much better.
OVERALL: 4.25.
They have spots located in Dupax and Solano, so if you're somewhere closer to one of those, give 'em a try!
Definitely taking Big Bro with me on that next run!
It's a no-nonsense place overall. Dont expect any luxurious anything, you won't find it. But the food speaks for itself. Definitely a must try for those looking for grub off the beaten path! read more
