Such a cute place fairly close to the main Montclair area! It's definitely not a sit-down place but rather a grab and go shop, but it is still very quaint. The barista was nice and quick with our order. We both got a caramel latte, one with almond milk and with regular one; they were both okay and definitely satisfied our coffee craving. Our total was 13.99 which seemed a bit much for two small coffees. I think it's a nice spot to have if you live nearby. read more

I am so happy this little café exists. I had purchased a red "love child" baseball cap the first time I was ever at Java love in 2017-2018 along with an ice coffee I'm almost sure. Today I had an amazing matcha. The cutest little barista surprised me with the choice of milk (which I had asked her to do) and it was "amassssing." Top notch coffee spot! Super friendly kids working and lots of homegrown touches and comfortable welcoming decor that you hope for in an independent cafe. There was a great custom board of seasonal drinks I can't remember the name but I had the red eye, mocha, cayenne, cinnamon, and oat milk. IT WAS AMAZING. I wish I could have tried more. the chocolate chip scone was delicious as well. There was plenty of space inside for all the patrons to enjoy their drinks without feeling cramped or rushed. We drove an hour to come here and it was less than 20 degrees Fahrenheit out. We came on the pretense that they had prepared food and heated outdoor seating. When we got there, none of the heaters were turned on. We also found out that none of the NJ locations had prepared food, just pastries. So we were hungry but just decided to get lattes. We also decided not to get beans because there were no 'roasted by' dates on them. I had to tell the employee three different times that I wanted two lattes, one with almond milk and the other with oat milk. He first thought i wanted both almond, then both oat and then there was an understanding that it would be one of each. But when we got our order, it was two oat milk lattes, and somehow one of them was sweetened, even though I didn't order sweetened at all. We still drank them, as I'd prefer not to waste, but it was a bit of a mediocre experience. For the positive, the lattes were still quite good and service was friendly. read more

And of course, they have the fancier drinks too (and snacks). Located next to the 'someday reopening' Bellevue Theater, Java Love definitely has a specialty-neighborhood-coffee shop vibe going. Also, kudos for adjusting to Covid winter, making an effort to keep their outdoor customers comfortable with heating lamps and socially-distant chairs and benches. I love the creative/unique flavors they have- there's one right now called Oh My Love that's a mocha with strawberry syrup that's delicious. It's actually even better with raspberry syrup :) They've had this drink since Valentine's Day and it's currently April, thought it was a special for the holiday but I guess not! I visited this coffee shop about a week ago, figured I would support a local business in Montclair when I observed a menu chalk board with Halloween themed names for various teas and coffees. One of these names was "Spook-Tea" and the tea just happened to be a Black tea. Now you can chalk this up to an oversight and coincidence no pun intended as this is a serious matter and extremely offensive but when I expressed my concern and frustration over a sign with a slur hanging in their store, the name wasn't immediately changed. Several other patrons voiced their concerns with me once they realized, but the folks at the counter said they couldn't make the change until the manager came in. I went into this store two more times in subsequent days to see if the corrections were made, it took 3 days but eventually the tea was changed to "Spooky-Tea" which I didn't have a problem with. I did notice at that time however that there was a sign at the register up that said "Kind People Matter" which to me felt like another slap in the face as many black people would find that to be an unnecessary trivilization of Black Lives Matter. I'll let future patrons decide the intent here but as a customer who supported this business many times over the years I'm saddened to see that they just don't get it. I was willing to overlook the first incident but this just feels like apathy and or a willingness to offend. At least that's how I was made to feel, and from what I gathered in my conversations with one batista, I wasn't the only person expressing similar feelings. read more

Despite my rating - There is one extremely RUDE & disgusting blonde female employee who works here who has a piss poor attitude. I have never been & felt so disrespected as a consumer until I had the "pleasure" of having her take my order.. Disregarding my previous statement however - the REST of the staff is actually so kind, sweet, eclectic & cool. This little coffee shop is cute. Java Love has great options in coffee. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself to be a coffee snob - but I am very particular about my tastes & likes in different roasts so idk you tell me lol. My favorite niche about this place is that in their "daily brew" menu they have the notes of the brews & coffees they have which is SO helpful to determine maybe what you might be in the mood for. My favorites in rotation are the Costa Rican Rio Negro & House Blend & a specific one that I can't quite remember unfortunately lol. Java Love is my favorite spot for grab and go coffee in Montclair. They offer a wide variety of blends and special coffee drinks. One of my favorites is the "dirty grandma" chai. There were hints of cinnamon and nutmeg that gave it a sweet spice flavor. I also enjoy the "monuts" which is a muffin shape with a donut batter. I have tried the plain and also the Nutella. I would have liked to have a bit more Nutella filling in there though. The coffee is robust and flavorful with a fresh taste. The owner seemed delighted for our business and could not have been any friendlier, taking the time to explain all they had to offer. Keep in mind that this is a shop for coffee and pastries only. There is no hot food--at least not yet. They have a nice--though curious--arrangement with The Little Daisy Bake Shop just up the road on Valley. The Bake Shop provides many of the pastries sold at Java Love, while Java Love provides the coffee for the Bake Shop. Win-win as far as I'm concerned. We sampled several of the pastries and were impressed. They are offering their own roasted beans at about $15/lb, and they will grind it to your preference.
