I cannot believe I haven't found this place sooner!! Truly a gem coffee shop in Montclair - it's so quaint and cozy inside with amazing coffee. I got the seasonal ginger snap latte and it was so full of flavor and was so smooth. I also got a blueberry donut and it had to be one of the best donuts I've ever had! 5 stars for their vanilla latte with oatmilk and their iced chai latte. In a quiet, less busy area of Montclair, Local Coffee hit the spot on a cool weekend morning for a small hit of caffeine. Their oatmilk latte was still robust and milk to coffee ratio was good. They also so half-caf for people like me who love the flavor of coffee but cannot take a full caffeinated drink. The iced chai was flavorful and creamy, not too sweet yet still rich in flavor. Interior is fresh and welcoming. Service is fast and friendly. Limited seated. Restroom is clean. Street parking. Had a cortado coffee and a carrot cake donut here after lunch. Both were excellent and the cortado was served with some nice latte art on the top. The cortado was bright and had a nice balanced flavor. The carrot cake donut tasted like carrot cake without being too sweet or overpowering. I also got a small cup of water while I was eating at the bar. Given that the water in some of the surrounding shops is still a little musty this year, was happy that their water tasted perfect. read more

With a longstanding reputation for a personal touch and excellent service, Local also boasts the best coffee and espresso drinks in the Montclair area, along with a not-overwhelming menu of delicious seasonal speciality drinks which I love to choose from. My go-to, however, is a cappuccino which is exactly what I need to begin every morning. My husband and I began frequenting this local gem in 2021 and we never looked back. Even though there are about 4 other coffee shops closer to us, we know no other coffee compares. This is why Local is part of our daily ritual. We know they'll always nail it. Plus, we've developed a great rapport with the friendly and professional owners and baristas. Everyone there is super caring and sweet. Even though it's a small shop, there's plenty of indoor/outdoor seating and that's even the case with some regulars staying for a spell to chat or work. This was our first stop on our trip to visit my friends in New Jersey and it was great. I needed a little pick me up and this was located in Montclair Center which is about 10 minutes from were we were staying. I ordered a large latte with almond milk and their homemade Lavender Syrup and it was amazing! This place was awesome - it has juices, fresh baked good and obviously amazing coffee! I come to Local Coffee every now and then for my usual iced caramel latte. I'm always happy with my drink, I think everything is really fresh which makes the taste wonderful. Only downside is it's a bit more expensive than other coffee shops. However, if I have the money and don't mind spending a little extra for quality, I will come here. My experience with the staff has always been pleasant. It's nice inside but a bit small so usually I will take my coffee to go. Although there are many coffee shops in Montclair I do think this one is a must try! read more

The owners are there everyday, so friendly, make you feel welcome and like you're ... well... a local! They make amazing lattes and cappucino and I'm always down for a cold brew. Their daily donut selection is incredible. Such a great spot. There's always a line. This place used to be our family's go to spot for coffee, a yummy treat, and good chats. However since the recent owner change I must say it's no longer our favorite. The coffee is still good but man the service sucks. Which makes me so sad. The original owners were SO Friendly and personable. Always took the time to say hello and make small talk, always welcomed our dog and we're just so kind. Now the new owner(s) seem like they don't want to be there. It feels like just a transaction versus an experience. Customer service is so important in a business like this especially, and we just don't feel good vibes when we walk in. Very sad and disappointing as we used to love it here. I strongly suggest the new owners lighten up, get to know your customers especially the longstanding ones, and treat people as if they exist and not treat them as just a business transaction. read more

I mention the laptop part because I know many people like to go to coffee shops to do work. At this location, half the tables have a "laptop free" sign which means you cannot sit there with a laptop. Such a cute and cozy coffee shop! Had such a hard time choosing which drink and pastry to try because everything sounded so good! Went with the Funktado Cortado (had a mocha flavor but also cayenne, so a really awesome kick) and a lemon poppy donut. There were also a variety of muffins, cookies, cakes, and other donuts to try! The shop was extremely clean (including the bathroom) and very well decorated. The staff were extremely kind and helpful, making the experience even better. Excellent! It's always a great experience when you are greeted in a pleasant manner and given a run down on what a place has to offer right from the get. Local coffee's employees were friendly and personable from the moment I opened the door despite being pretty busy on a late Friday morning. Someone in front informed me of the specials, where they source the coffee beans/ coffee or whatever from, and what delicious pastries they had from "Balthazar" and "Dough". I personally enjoy most Dough doughnuts so I had to buy a ginormous hibiscus one. I also wanted to try a "pour over" or a classic cortado, but grabbed an espresso instead. It was excellent. This place is directly in front/across from the train station and had a super cozy feel with a nice sized row of bar stool seating and about 5 other tables. People were enjoying themselves in small groups and others were typing up a storm on their laptops. Great place to relax, grab a baked good, and sip some caffeinated goodness. read more

Local Coffee, I am definitely a fan! There are definitely more pros than cons. First, the staff is incredibly kind! There is often an owner around, and they show how much they care about their customers. The interior and exterior design is also simple, clean cut, and overall a welcoming environment. There are plenty of drinks and food/pastry items to choose from on the menu. However, prices are high! You will easily spend way more here than you would at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. I can also think of a few bakeries and other coffee shops that are cheaper. I wouldn't say they are overprices, as I am definitely a believer in you pay for the quality of ingredients/service! I assume that that the ingredients and items they purchase to serve their customers is in the top notch rating. If it was easier on my pocket, I would come more often so I will definitely return, on occasion! read more
