While visiting the Great Prosser Balloon Rally this past weekend, we decided to take in some local eats. Well this place did not disappoint! I have had chicken and waffles...and I love me some churros, but I've never had a that sort of combo! Javie definitely knows how to make some tasty food! We had some asada fries, these things were freaking loaded with cheese, meat and guacamole! No skimping on flavor or portions. The atmosphere was as legit as any hole in the wall taco/cheap eats you could get. It was fantastic! Went to the Javi's Chicken and Churros in Sunnyside. They don't have a page on Yelp so that's why I'm giving the review on the grandview location. We went for dinner, it was very busy in there. Great menu lots of options to choose from. Lots of seating available. We ordered Modelo and Strawberry Margaritas. The drinks were good! The margarita is very decorated and yummy! I wanted the Cali burger but they were sold out! I want to try it someday because they said it's like in-n-out. My kids shared the 1/2 order asada fries. They were huge! My husband got the doraditas tray with asada fries he was so full! I ordered 2 street tacos that had lots of meat on them. A shrimp and cheese fried taco, taco bout amazing ! And a birria taco that was huge and full of flavor! I love how they give you bottles of green and red salsa at your table so you have unlimited sauce! Amazing! We will return! We found ourselves looking for lunch after going to Hill's Berry Farm, a really cool you pick a place in Grandview/ Sunnyside. As it were, this place was open and ready for us to come try out some delicious chicken and churros! It had never occurred to me until my wife said something, the chicken and churros is effectively Mexican chicken and waffles! Everybody has their sweet and savory and we were very excited to try it here. The place is located in downtown Grandview and has a pretty small footprint. It seats about 30 people with a good number of tables, as well as an equal amount of seating outside on the patio in the back. Note to self: sit outside next time and let the kids run around. The menu is rather extensiveAnd includes much more than just poultry and carbs! They have the standard street tacos, burritos and some less frequented items like carne asada nachos and our new favorite - Doraditos! These are basically a fresh made hardshell taco, which turns out to be a corn tortilla that's fried to keep everything inside. I'm told they can add cheese in between the two tortillas - that's magic son! The tacos and Doraditos were awesome. The carne asada nachos were also fantastic, though they would be epic if they used melted cheese rather than a cheese sauce, that was really the only check mark against them that we saw. The chicken was delicious, served in iterations of four, which was effectively a half a chicken cut up for each four pieces, and came with warm tortillas. They had a spicy onion and cabbage type slaw that you could put with the chicken and it was incredible! It was unique to what I've ever seen, and while it had some cake, complements of the chicken perfectly. You could really taste the char from where it had been cooked over a flame. They have a small salsa bar where they also had roasted jalapeños and grilled onions that you could put on the tacos. They had a couple of types of salsa, as well as a few other sauces which the less adventurous eaters in our group appreciated. We finish the meal with an eight pack of churros with Oreo on top. We've eaten a lot of churros, and I think these were the best ones I've ever had. There is just a little bit of extra crunch to these that made them that more satisfying! The toppings come on the churros and you can also get sauces on the side. It's a carb lovers dream! Plenty of different beverage options including Jaritos and Coke in glass bottles. It's definitely the little things in life! We got to meet the owner and his family. They recently moved up here from LA to be closer to family and to start a restaurant in a place where the market wasn't completely saturated. We loved everything we had, and it was good enough that we will probably be making more trips down to Grandview just to get lunch! Skip's Foodie Review Javi's Chicken & Churros 12.20.20 Ug.... after a disappointing first outing at this popular Lower Valley unique Mexican Food joint several months back, I decided to give it another go. And although there have been improvements in overall quality, Javi's still missed the mark. Chicken Burrito - 6/10. Average to Slightly above average size. Loaded with more average tasting rice than it needs. Very few beans. The chicken was plentiful and flavorful- but again, obviously seasoned with Jonny Seasoning Salt. I liked the chicken, except for several burnt pieces that had a heavy charred taste to them that just should have been removed from a quality restaurant. Adobada tacos - 4/10 - presentation and dipped tortillas were a nice touch! Loaded with meat, and the green sauce on top was so delicious!!! Having said all of that, the reason it was scored so low - the meat flavoring was practically non-existent. The texture and amount is above others in the market, but the flavor - maybe they just forgot to season? And why not include goodies like your competitors? Like a slice of queso blanco cheese or a grilled onion, or beans or anything to really set this apart. At the very least, season the meat so it was edible. When I opened this up, I was at first excited to see the colorful loaded tacos, but I ended up putting the rest in the fridge to pawn off to a family member. Salsas - 8/10 - Ok, much better than the last experience. The green one is your typical green taco-truck salsa. However, like mentioned before the green creamy salsa on the tacos was just awesome and unique! And speaking of unique, this odd looking pink chopped up tomato one (as pictured). I was just shocked. It was delicious. The texture and flavor hit the spot. I would buy something like this as one of my go-to salsas. And like I said, it's unique! I haven't seen anything quite like that at any of the taco stands - so nice job there. In short, overall experience was a 4/10 - sadly a downgrade from my previous experience. :( I really do want to like these guys, with all the hype and popularity circled around them. But they just need to step up their game and differentiate themselves from competitors who really have it figured out. My friend had told me to go here on our way to Walla Walla and I am glad we did. I think we didn't breath while devouring this delicious food. We got the doraditas with the consume ( a dip/soup ) which was a must. I shared my husbands dip since I got one doradita and the roast chicken. Which was super juicy. I can see if you got the chicken at the end of the night, which is like any restaurant, you don't want closing food. But tbh, it was fall off the bone and their sauces that came with it were amazing. I could do without the sides because the show case was the chicken. But if you had it for dinner, it is nice to get completely full with the sides. Churros were good, wished I had hot coffee or hot chocolate to dip it in because they were cooked perfectly crunchy. As for the best of the best was their michelada's. It comes with two beers so you can split it with someone else or just for yourself :) All in all, a must go if you are in the area or making a road trip through. Food for Grandview is good, we ordered the doraditos tacos with the consommé, the consommé was greasy and lacking of deep rich beef flavor. The tacos were okay. Honestly had better in Tri Cities Washington at Stacks Taco truck. Not only is the food great they remodeled the place that looks great!! My hubby and I were very impressed by the way they grilled the chicken on the open grill. After several rave reviews from some of my foodie friends I finally Came here on my way to the pumpkin patch in Grandview on a Saturday afternoon. No line to wait so I got my food fast. The ladies cooking looked like my tias so I knew I was in for a treat. I ordered Beef Birria tacos and they were sooo Bomb!!! It was like my tastebuds were having a party!! The tacos had homemade guacamole in them plus salsa on the side. The 2 beef Birria tacos also came with a side of consome which is a healthy serving of the broth and meat that the beef Birria was cooked in and it warmed my soul on a chilly October day at the patch.
