From CA-178 East, exit at Borel Rd three miles before the town of Lake Isabella. Note your odometer and go as follows: - Turn east on Borel Rd - At 0.3 mile, there's a fork. Go right. - At 1.1 miles, Swamp Flats Campground. Continue straight. - At 2.0 miles, Hobo Campground. Continue straight. - At 3.6 miles, large parking area on the right with tree in the center. Park. From the parking area (2480'), cross the road and hike up the signed Remington Ridge Trail about 4 miles to where the trail passes east of peak 6252' and drops about 100' into a final saddle. After crossing the saddle leave the trail on the right where convenient and hike west up the slope gaining 250' to the summit. (http://angeles.sierraclub.org/hps/guides/02a.htm) The hike is about 10-12 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 4500'. This hike is awesome in the early spring or late winter. The trail may be snowy, but it provides great views of the snow-capped Sierras. The first time I hiked it, we missed the summit and ended up doing about 18 mi of hiking. It can be easy to miss if your coming from out of town, but thankfully there is a tall brown sign that helps you find the right turn in spot. Just a word of advice, if you have a truck or a car that sits higher, definitely take that as opposed to a low riding car. My car sits low and was painful to hear the scratching noise it made while I drove into the parking area and out. There's actually no designated parking lot but you do have the option of parking closer toward the entrance or further in. I wasn't sure exactly how far to go, so I parked near a semi circle where there were a row of rocks and noticed while we were walking, if we went in a little further, we would've found another lot. This was our first time there and I LOVED it! We normally go to RH behind Cerro Coso College, but we've been trying to find alternative routes since we like to let our dog off the lease and there tends to be way more hikers/atv/mountain bike/bikers there. There were a few other cars there but we didn't run into anyone walking. We did see a few bikers, but thankfully there's a couple paths to choose from that lead to similar trails. The only thing I didn't like about this area, which like the other is there aren't any trash cans around. But other than that, there are definitely some challenging trails with steep paths, that seem to go on and on for miles. We also saw a couple piles of shingles, broken bottles, trash, shotgun shells and heard what sounded like loud booms (which I've heard on the other side of RH plenty of times. Now that it's getting warmer and soon, very very hot, make sure you take plenty of water, as there are no water fountains nearby. There is a Shell gas station about a quarter of a mile away, so you can pick up a couple bottles if you forgot your own!

Exit the 178 at Kern Canyon Rd and go for approximately 2.5 miles to find the trailhead. The trail is maintained by Kern Back Country Horsemen of California. Judging by the tracks in the mud, mountain bikes, horses, and cows all use the trail, but on this particular day I just saw people and their dogs. Although the trail is 7 miles in length, we only did 3.5 miles. We started off at an elevation of 2400' and made our way up to 4200'. We encountered four streaks that were easy to cross by jumping on rocks. The trail itself was all uphill and for the most part had wonderful scenery.

I told them at the service department that the bike would not shift gears going up, that the shifter only worked right when downshifting. Imagine my surprise when they text me less than three hours later saying my bike is ready. It seemed OK, they asked me to ride it in the parking lot. It was 5:50, and they closed in ten minutes. The bike shifted OK for a couple of cycles up and down. As much as I was happy to get the bicycle back the same day, I was not happy after riding it several time and from gears five thru eight still trouble upshifting. I truly wish they had kept the bike until Tuesday, maybe the bike would shift properly. I did not need to get my bicycle back fast as much as I needed to get my bicycle back FIXED.

The park was dedicated September 2017. This site used to be a Market, Garage and Park in the early 1900's. Some of the trees are the originals from that time period. Online it says there are picnic tables and BBQ grills. I will have to visit this park again to enjoy that. The park is decorated with giant boulders from the Quarry. You have a great view of the mountains and train enthusiasts can watch the trains go by.

After spending several hours in big box stores looking at bikes I decided to stop in here and check…read moreout their selection. I knew I would be paying more, but getting a better bike if I went to an actual bike shop. The difference was night and day. I was helped immediately when I came inside, where in the Kmart/Walmart no one was seen anywhere near the bikes. The items they had in stock were not quite what I was looking for, but the gentleman there helped me out with buying the proper size bikes for my kids from an on-line catalog. The bikes arrived VERY quickly, and the shop assembled them for me, and put in tire liners for a little extra (This area is bad for goat heads). Some of the things I considered before buying here were this: - Do I want someone who is not a specialist assembling my children's bikes? - Do I want to spend the time removing the tubes and installing the liners myself? - Will big box stores care/help if something goes wrong, or will a small shop be more likely to actually fix it? - If I got a cheap bike from another store, do I want to spend money to replace it when it breaks? - Do I want to buy from a faceless corporation or build a relationship with a local small business? I was also able to pick up some helmets for the kids for fairly cheap because they were being clearanced, which beat trying to figure out sizes on-line for my kids. I would definitely buy from here again. Also, they have a shop dog, and she is awesome.
