It's so cool to watch a seasoned pro perform their craft. Kerry took one look at my seat and new it wasn't right for the job. Took some measurements, got my seat and bars adjusted, accessed a handful of additional quirks that needed some love, and got me out the door the same day. I brought my bicycle here when the derailer fell off and the brakes stopped working right. When I dropped it off on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 they said it would be ready on Tuesday. I told them at the service department that the bike would not shift gears going up, that the shifter only worked right when downshifting. Imagine my surprise when they text me less than three hours later saying my bike is ready. It seemed OK, they asked me to ride it in the parking lot. It was 5:50, and they closed in ten minutes. The bike shifted OK for a couple of cycles up and down. As much as I was happy to get the bicycle back the same day, I was not happy after riding it several time and from gears five thru eight still trouble upshifting. I truly wish they had kept the bike until Tuesday, maybe the bike would shift properly. I did not need to get my bicycle back fast as much as I needed to get my bicycle back FIXED. read more

I purchased my Electra Townie from Action Sports a few months ago and have been enjoying casual rides ever since (great bike!). This morning, my husband and I rode to breakfast and realized halfway through my tires were a bit flat. We knew Action Sports was closed, but rode by anyway. A man setting out on his bike ride let us know they didn't open until 11 a.m., but asked what we needed. We told him we were just looking for air. Unbeknownst to us, he was an employee of the store. He paused his bike ride, opened the store, and took us to the back to fill our tires. It made such a difference on the ride home and he possibly saved our bikes from being damaged. I have become a regular to their snowboard rentals, and highly recommend them should you need some great equipment. When I kept my gear in other states, they were an easy and cost efficient way to have all the gear I didn't travel with for a fun day on the mountain. Since they have a strong selection, I enjoy trying out new board styles and sizes I've had my eye on. Well first of all, the all aluminum kickstand was manufactured 07-2018. That wasn't cool. And then we got it home; we installed it on an 11-year old's new to him bike. He is an average size, not heavy great nephew was on the bike and put the kickstand down. Went to get off and the kickstand snapped right at the housing. I put it in the bag with the bag it came in. Receipt and all the parts Matthew and Dylan were like... "this has never happened before... blah blah blah". Also, I was like, "Are you trying to blame your shoddy merchandise on an eleven yr old child?" They both looked at each and sorta slightly nodded. At that point, I asked for a manager. Dylan pops off with, "I am the manager" and puts out her hand. I shook it reluctantly. And there she was without any name tags stating she was a manager. She didn't act like a manager to me, at all. I then said, "Well, it is $14 and since you have nothing but another like it...my refund is due since when I bought it two days ago, I have that I need. Receipt, item with all the tags, etc. So you need to refund me $14." She then asked for the actual card to give me my full refund, I happen to have it with me. Thank goodness. I will NOT BE BACK. And if you shop there--I STRONGLY suggest to see the manufacturer date and see if something really old is being sold as new. Lots can happen to merchandise randomly stored and dropping would be an average happening. Also, how high on a shelf has it been stored OVER 8 years. Not cool. Nor great customer service. Have been to "Inaction Sports" several times over the past few years... even bought two bikes here.... Was planning to buy more in the future but and have had nothing but great service.... But... probably never coming back here again.... On pace to ride 1,000 miles this month, need 36 more before Sunday night. Was riding this morning and ran over something, need to replace tire that has 3,000+ miles on it. Go to Action Sports, look at tires in the back... one of the salesmen is chit chatting, sounded like w a friend.... After about five minutes he the customer / friend tells the employee, "oh you need to help somebody?" And he looks at me...the employee looks over and stells me "you can go behind the counter, I have no problem with it".... look at tire, he continues chatting, never comes to assist.... I am on my tip toes to take tires Off top shelf and compare.... I'm doing this for almost 15 minutes.... He is still chit chatting, nobody comes to help... WTF...... I choose tire and wait to get sealant from counter .... He is still chit chatting... somebody else comes... I'm never acknowledged.... I guess I'm invisible.... Inaction Sports is invisible to me now! Would get zero stars today, but Yelp made me give one star.... Kinda like a "participation" star .... Walmart gives better service... driving across town to Snider's Bikes.... What happened to this place!! I guess I must have looked like a clueless beginner rider or.... They really should add "No Customer Service" to the sign in the parking lot... In the market for a Trek Checkpoint gravel bike.... Just located another Trek dealer now... UPDATE: Drove across town to Snider's to get tire.... Immediately greeted upon entry and Hiram took care of me, very knowlegable and friendly! The tires appear to be a bit cheaper than at Action Sports! In and out in less than 10 minutes, painless transaction with some friendly small talk. I have been looking for a road bike for quite some time, but due to the pandemic, good bikes have become scarce as many bike shops are filled with empty displays and a few leftovers. I opted to buy a road bike because indoor cycling bikes from the three major players are also in a backlog with average 10-week waiting periods. My price range was maxed to $1,500 for a good starter road bike. The Specialized brand has a few good, light-weight bikes that fell under my price point, but difficult to find these days. My local bike shops were unhelpful and unwilling to place a special order, so I began my out of town search and found exactly the bike I was looking for in the color I wanted at Action Sports located in Bakersfield, CA. I checked online and found some options that showed to be available, so I gave Action Sports a call to verify before I made the one-hour drive to Bakersfield. The bike was happily put on a temporary layaway with a small over-the-phone deposit and I was on my way to Bakersfield. I cannot remember the salesclerk who helped me on the phone and he was MIA upon my arrival and remained in seclusion the entire time I was there. Stuart graciously and professionally helped me with my bike and a with few necessary accessories. Gracie at the front counter was very helpful, as well. Following the accessory selections, my bike was then moved to an elevated stage for the complimentary bike fitting. Bike fits can cost as much as $300+, and I am grateful for this free fitting. My seat and handlebars felt fine at the assembled levels, but the bike fit proved otherwise. Before and after photos were also taken to show me the difference after the adjustments were made. My questions were asked and I received all the answers I needed and tips on maneuvering, and working with toe-clip pedals. The start-up costs for a new cycling hobby is not for the faint of heart, as this can be an expensive sport. In addition to a good bike, there is a lot to buy, such as helmets, pedals, shoes, repair kits, bottle holders, lights, GPS, and transporting equipment. The rock wall is back!! My son has been begging to be back on the rock wall for two years since they closed at the beginning of the pandemic and I might as well have taken him to Disneyland he had so much fun! The guys working the rock wall area are so supportive while giving my kids instruction. The blonde one (I didn't catch his name) even taught my son how he ties the knot he used for the billet. An hour is usually plenty for me but my son can easily use up the 3 hours of climbing time you get for $20 a person. Rentals are $4 a person. Very reasonable if you ask me! We will be back! I've known Action Sports for a few decades, and I continue to go back there because Kerry and his team are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and they don't talk down to you like many other bike shops do. Kerry is always active on the floor, helping people whenever he can, and his vast years of experience owning this shop and racing experience all lend to his and the store's credibility. His mechanics are top-notch, they can do anything back in the shop and do it right. This is by far the best bike shop in the entire state of California!! Let's not forget that the record for a four-person team in the Race Across America (RAAM) is held by Team Action Sports from Bakersfield, California. They set this record in 2004 by completing the 2,959-mile race in 5 days, 8 hours, and 17 minutes, with an average speed of 23.06 mph! I have been shopping for a new 29'er for the last couple of weeks and I planned to hit each of Bakersfield's "Big Three" bike shops; Sniders, Finish Line, and Action Sports. I never felt particularly pressured to make a purchase at Snider's or Finish Line, but when I told each of the sales associates I spoke to what I wanted and what I was going to use it for, they lead each me to heavy duty hardtail mountain bikes, including a GT Aggressor and a Giant Talon. I stopped by Action Sports and was immediately greeted by Matt V. who's customer service skills were downright exceptional. He showed me to a beautiful Trek FX3 29" and explained all the features. Thus bike suits my needs far better than anything else I had been looking at and it's fast! Matt showed me several other bikes and spent over an hour with me. We rode around the parking lot a few times and once I made a decision he fitted me to my new bike. Came in needing a whole set of snowboard/bindings/boots for the season and Stuart really helped me out!!! He was very knowledgeable about snowboarding, the best types of boards to get for beginners like me, and his expertise was very much appreciated!! Lots of selections for boards set up but could use more color options. Nice , big, bright store...clean and then owner seemed nice as well! They have these little faux chairlifts that you can sit on while waiting or trying on boots--I thought that was cute!! All in all it took about an hour or so and I came out with a brand new snowboard and bindings affixed (if you buy the board and bindings there, they will pit the bindings on for free since normally they charge around $25 to do so). Was going to get the boots as well but they only had two color choices and I really wanted this turquoise color I saw online. In any case, it was a great experience for a beginner like myself since the selections and the types of boards can be overwhelming/intimidating if you're new to the sport. You ever been in one of those situation where you're in the right but you could totally get screwed because it's a "he said she said" type thing? Walking in, I had no idea it was a bike store only. It sounds like a sports store, right? If you love cycling, this is quite the place. Large, full of bikes, clothing for bikes and accessories. We were nicely greeted and had amazing service throughout our visit. We actually needed a couple of pair of weight lifting gloves for the gym and it did not take much to convince us that cycling gloves would do the trick! Great colors, our sizes were there and the prices were not outrageous for the quality. No waiting in line, check out was easy. Even met the owner's little dog on the way out that was roaming the store. Adorable. The service at this bike shop is exceptional. I drove out here from LA (2 hr drive) to purchase a specific model that this location had in stock, and the staff here was so helpful and accommodating. Special shoutout to Curt--he is an extremely knowledgeable and courteous staff member, and helped me understand all parts of my bike. Curt also didn't try to upsell me on anything else, which I really appreciated. He showed me other gear they had, but didn't pressure me in any way to buy anything else, besides the bike I came to pick up. He also made himself personally available via phone, should I have any questions about my purchase. Curt and another employee, Gerald, also helped me load my two bikes into my car, a process which took about 30 minutes, but which I knew was completely optional for them. They really went out of their way to make sure I had a good experience. As a new rider, I was somewhat nervous about buying my first bike, but Curt really made the process so easy, and his enthusiasm about riding has definitely influenced me!
