Today our son got his first haircut EVER. He's seven and has developmental delays and we were so nervous about how he would react. We shouldn't have been! Mr. A was so patient with our son ( and US! ) that the whole experience was relaxing and fun! I've been going to Anthony about a year and a half now. He is a great guy who is obviously well-respected in the community. When you are waiting for a hair cut, it's like you're there at someone's house with the family all around. Everyone seems to know each other, and Anthony is like a father or teacher to a lot of the kids. He's always conversational and insightful! Let's not forget he cuts great hair. He is a master with fades and has done my pomp fade justice every time. He is very fairly priced for the area, about $27 for full men's hair cut. A clean up and shave/beard trim is only about $10 which is pretty nice if that's your style. Only downside is it gets BUSY sometimes. He's the man and he runs the shop. If there are 3 people ahead of you, it might take an hour to get to you. And the problem is you don't really know, with all the people just kind of hanging out, whether everyone is there to get their hair cut. It's kind of confusing, and sometimes you just have to ask people if they are there to get a haircut. Which is at times a bit awkward, though. You can make appointments online through a third-party site called mytime.com but it's extra $$ to do that (like $35 instead of $27 I believe). Brought my son into Jaws not knowing this shop at all; we were in the area for a basketball tournament. The owner was friendly, personable and made us feel at home. He spent a good deal of time working to make the cut just right, checking with my son along the way. My wife, son and I all had a good time just chatting with the owner and others in the shop while he was doing his thing. Honestly after looking at our son my wife and I both thought it was the best cut he has ever had. We would go back here in a heart beat if we are in the area. Great barbershop. There are many things that make JAWS Barbershop my barber of choice. I'll step through a few of the reasons and try to explain the 5 star rating I'm placing on this one. There are many things that can go wrong at a barbershop. Most shops have a tendency to alienate certain nationalities or demographics... Not here. The place is pretty neutral. There's not loud Latino or hardcore rap music mix tapes playing here. There's a movie on the big screen tv or a radio show or just chitchat between visitors. There is one barber, the owner, Anthony. Ant has a sense of professionalism that you just cant find at a lot of places. Wreckless behavior is simply not tolerated. There's even a swearing jar (actually a pile). Because there's one barber, customer service is second to none. If you come more than once you're a regular and he more than likely will remember what kind of haircut you got last time. Consistency is not a concern either - this guy is a magician. Like seriously, if you saw my before and after pics you'd be surprised. He's consistently good and arguably the best barber I've had. He is a bit expensive, but there's a reason why I keep coming back. You truly get what you pay for here. I get haircuts from Ant that I can't get from anyone else in CT that I know of. I got a haircut here for the first time a few days ago. I'm from out of town and found the place online so decided to give it a try. I walked in and was struck by the friendly atmosphere. There were a few people waiting for a haircut and others had already gotten one and had stuck around to hang out. The barber introduced himself immediately and told me how long the wait was. Went to Jaws to get a hair cut and was told there were two people ahead, after being there over an hour an down to the fourth person I asked the barber why the two guys had passed me and he said they were presidential and pay $60 per cut. The barber should have let me know that he gives special preference to some people based on how much they pay. I ended up leaving because as long as there was someone willing to pay $60 for a cut, i would have had to wait longer for my cut. Barber was not apologetic a lot all. read more
