Office lady #1, C, said "Your insurance went through! Here's your estimate for services we'll do today," and quoted me $655 out of pocket for a root canal and over $2K out of pocket for the crown. "...That's way higher than I expected," I said. "Yeah, dental insurance is awful," said C. "It will be like this everywhere you go." Shocked and dismayed, I called my insurance to confirm that those numbers were accurate. "Those guys aren't in network with us," the United Concordia rep told me. "That's the reason those numbers are so high." "WHAT!?" I said. The second of the Columbia Dental office ladies, T, came out to get an update on my decision (whether to pay out of pocket or get financing), and I said "You guys didn't tell me that you weren't in Network with United Concordia." "NO ONE is in network with them," she answered. "The UC rep just emailed me a list of providers who are," I replied. "Call them. Call them. I bet you they aren't," she challenged. I called them and immediately found two providers who were indeed in network with United Concordia. I went up to the desk and reported my findings. "Well, then, you're lucky," said T. "I feel that it's dishonest for you guys to not tell patients that you're out of network with their insurance," I said. "You said you accepted mine." "We ACCEPT yours," said C. "But we aren't in network with them." "Then you should have told me that," I said. Hours of my day were shifted around for this, my husband lost time at work to be home with our kids, and a great deal of emotional difficulty was experienced when seeing those numbers and being told that anywhere I go would the same story. Not cool at all, Columbia Dental.

It took this Dental Group weeks to verify my insurance. I finally was able to make an appointment. I went in to see the dentist, and after a lot of deliberation, over a treatment plan, we arrived at a plan was satisfactory to me, and the dentist agreed to which was to give me a crown and a partial. I had a partial made at my own expense with the former dentist. I had set because he did not crown my back tooth, I had problems. I went to the dentist out of network that told me I needed to get that tooth crown. Unfortunately I couldn't see him because he was not a network. After coming up with the perfect dental plan for me, the dentist went to lunch and decided during lunch, that he was not going to give me a crown because he did not want the temporary partial I had made, which is only to be used for a short period of time, and not meant for the long term. He changed his mind because he wanted that temporary partial to fit me forever when it's going to end up in the garbage. So he changed his mind about my dental plan, but never consulted me. He had his receptionist called me and cancel my appointment till they could verify Everything even though I had already told them that the partial had been approved. To have a receptionist, call you and not even a dental assistant, and informed me that the dentist changed his mind and not consult with a patient is unacceptable in any field of dentistry. I would seriously think twice before going to this establishment. You never know what you're going to get. His behavior was remarkably unprofessional. I found a new dentist and I'm very happy with her!

Having been through this basic procedure before there were few unknowns post op which is a real help. If I think of something that would be beneficial to a client I will past it along. These procedures are not a "walk in the park" by any stretch of your imagination. Having said that, the two weeks to get your mouth back on line is just that; two weeks. Not very long when you know the results are with you for a very long time and the consequences of not having this done are dire at best. If you are are need of this type of surgery, I would highly recommend a consultation with Shoreline and their staff. You will find the staff and the facilities to be top notch in all regards. What should have…read morebeen a positive and exciting milestone instead turned into a deeply upsetting and disheartening experience -- both for her and for me as a parent. My daughter arrived genuinely hopeful and prepared to complete the process. She was eager to be involved in decisions that directly impact her smile, appearance, and long-term confidence. Unfortunately, from the moment Dr. Dibner entered the room, her demeanor was noticeably cold and unwelcoming. When my daughter began asking thoughtful questions and attempted to participate in selecting the shade for her crown -- a perfectly reasonable expectation for something so personal -- she was quickly dismissed. In fact, rather than acknowledging or considering my daughter's input, Dr. Dibner directed her attention to her assistant, asking her what shade she thought matched best. It was disheartening to see the opinion of an assistant prioritized over the patient's -- especially when it is my daughter who will live with the result of this permanent dental work. Her opinion should have been central to the conversation. Worse still, Dr. Dibner responded to my daughter's attempts to advocate for herself with dismissive and condescending remarks. Instead of encouraging my daughter's involvement, Dr. Dibner repeatedly told us -- on more than one occasion -- that we might want to consider going to another dentist. She referenced how good the doctors are in New York City and emphasized that she prefers to do things her way. The message was clear: if the patient wants to have a say, this may not be the place for them. This attitude was not only unprofessional, but completely contrary to the principles of patient-centered care. The situation escalated to the point where my daughter was left in tears -- humiliated and deeply hurt in what should have been a safe, supportive, and respectful environment. As a parent, it was painful to witness and completely unacceptable in a healthcare setting. To be candid, the tone, attitude, and overall treatment we received gave the clear impression that we were not being afforded the same respect or consideration as other patients. While I cannot say with certainty what the basis for that disparity was, it felt discriminatory in nature. No one should feel marginalized, dismissed, or unwelcome when seeking medical care -- especially a young woman trying to engage in her own health and well-being. This experience has left a lasting negative impact on my daughter. We came in expecting empathy, professionalism, and basic human decency. Unfortunately, what we encountered was the opposite. I do not typically submit complaints or write reviews, which should reflect how shocked and disappointed we were by the conduct we experienced. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that no other patient has to go through what we did.
