All I can say about Jay is "wow." And that's a compliment! My fiancee and I were obviously in the market for an engagement ring. We received quite a bit of advice from many but with both of us having "been around the block" before, we had great ideas of what we wanted and could afford. Completely over the "big box mall stores," we turned to Yelp and discovered Jay Sharpe. Prior to coming in to his shop, I perused the Web and scoured additional local shops but kept coming back to Jay's Yelp reviews. That being said we decided to give him a shot and are totally happy we did. We arrived at Jay's shop on a Saturday shortly before closing. Knowing what I was looking for in a diamond as far as clarity, color, etc, Jay sat is down and educated us a bit in a warm, calming demeanor without a hint of overwhelming or pushing us. In fact, throughout the entire process, Jay never pushed or pressured us, a trait of his we're very thankful for! We learned a lot from Jay that Saturday (including finding out he had designed a wedding band for a friend of ours from his many references) and decided to have several diamonds brought in for our review. We additionally picked out a band and setting before we left. We went back to Jay's shop a couple of weeks later to review the diamonds, with Jay calmly educating us on how to hold the stone loop to observe the stones under magnification. Jay didn't push us either way and we choose the stone to use for the ring. When I picked the ring up, Jay have me some advice on how to care for it, including how to test the stone every so often to see if it had gotten loose. No other jeweler ever suggested that to me before. I encourage anyone looking for a reputable yet reasonable jeweler to check out Jay. I visited Jay randomly, not really knowing what I wanted. Jay was very accommodating and relaxed. (You can tell that he knows what he is doing.) I waited a month or so before I returned and Jay remembered me. We tossed around some ideas before coming up with the final look for my fiancee's engagement ring. Jay took a vintage pendant and melded it with a new shank to produce a wonderful ring. My fiancee was wowed and I was very happy as well. We worked with Sharpe for the last six months on our wedding rings. We wanted a design we created with crystals. We designed rings that were the same yet had slight detail differences. Sharpe took his time with us, listened to all of our needs and made adjustments with every stage. This man built my three-stone rose gold diamond engagement ring. I noticed immediately that the stones were not set equal distances apart. I figured I could live with that. After bringing my ring to a reputable jeweler to have it resized I learned several things; 1, the ring is actually 13k rose gold instead of 14k like Jay Sharpe had stamped. It is a nearly microscopic band as well, and will get damaged if I do the dishes too intently. 2, the main diamond is very poorly cut and will always struggle to stay put within its prongs. After discussing this with my fiance, I learned that he overpaid for the ring by about 110%. Jay Sharpe is a mediocre jeweler and his work is shoddy. Not only will I not be returning to him for ANYTHING, I will make an effort to keep any of my peers from ever using him as their jeweler. After 30 years of marriage, I wanted (and needed) to get my engagement ring reset. I also had an anniversary ring that needed some repairs. After searching the internet for a jeweler that would use my stones, I found the reviews for Jay and I read them. I talked with my husband and we decided to make an appointment to meet with him.
