This place is wonderful. I had an antique gold ring from my mother, that needed to be repaired, so that I could pass it down to my daughter on her special occasion. They did a fantastic job!! From the ease of designing the ring to fabrication they could not have been any more professional. Thankful for Walk and Son. I was about to get engaged and wanted to be a part of the process of making the ring. Previous jewlers tried to sell me products I was not interested in from the start. I did a wax up of the ring and tried to reach out to other jewelers but was unable to have it casted in Richmond until I found out about Walker and Son. EJ talked me through the entire process and helped me carve the wax. EJ was not a sales person but an artist. He did not try to upsell me on anything. In fact, some of the recommendations he made might have made it less profitable for him. He allowed me to be a part of the process often inviting me in the shop, taking pictures and videos of each step. He was encouraging throughout the process and let me run with this idea as far as I wanted and always stepped in when needed. He set the stones and did a great job finishing and polishing the ring. I went to this business "cold," that is, I had no previous knowledge of them whatsoever, neither online reviews nor personal recommendations, but my wedding ring needed to be reduced in size, so I stopped in. Displays in the store showed clearly that they do beautiful work, but still I was a little apprehensive about leaving a cherished piece with them. But they were very nice and professional and attentive, so I took a chance. I was given a time frame of some days for the work. A couple of hours after getting home they phoned to say my ring was ready to pick up. The owner had heard the concern in my voice and responded by resizing my ring immediately. So I returned to pick up my ring, but due to the ring's irregular form, it was still a little too large. They promised it to me for pickup the next day and they delivered on time, at no additional charge, with a perfect fit. If you watch the interaction this shop has with its customers, you will realize that they value true customer service. Their charge for my work was pleasantly low and the repair is completely invisible. The owner even explained that a previous repair to my ring was done with an inferior solder, so my ring is now stronger than ever. Plus the no-charge cleaning means my ring is shinier than it has been in years. Finally, in reducing the size of my ring there was a tiny sliver of gold removed from the ring. They duly returned that gold to me without my having to mention it. I in turn gave it to them. It's too little to be of any use to me, but could accumulate for them. I went to Walker and Son on the recommendation of a friend and am not pleased with the results at all. They completely altered my piece to "repair" it and then the 2 guys there doubled up to say my piece was missing a part when I brought it in and that's why it is how it is now. Completely untrue as there was a charm on the piece that would have fallen off when it broke. They removed a part to solder it and then said it wasn't there when I brought it in. Lies. Half-assed repair with a very noticeable solder connection right front and center. Very displeased, but more displeased that the "repair" wasn't discussed with me prior to doing it. If that was all that could be done to repair the piece and they discussed before doing it, I'd be more understanding. I know how it should look and that's not what I got in return. Plus, you have to pay up front for repair, so you're pretty much out of luck when you pick up your item. Will never use again and absolutely will not recommend. Shady business. Left in frustration with my sub-par repair out of weariness from being double teamed by staff. Don't go here for repairs unless you're a fan of being jerked around and being surprised by what you get back. read more
