We had a big party last night around 7pm. The server (sorry, I never got her name), but she was on top of EVERYTHING from the second we walked in the door. Accommodated our party, moved all the tables and chairs around, had drinks out FAST. She was friendly, bubbly, and very helpful. I think everyone at the table ordered something different. Everything was delicious. They had rhe food out fairly quick for the amount of food, but one meal was missed. We had enough food to share, but the server handled this, as well. If I could make it 10 stars, I would! The service is great. Prompt friendly and spot on with orders. The food was amazing. The burgers are huge and homemade. Not those package hockey pucks. The toppings and the sauces homemade and incredibly delicious. The serving portions are huge so go with a big appetite. This may be a bar but this is not bar food on the menu. The prices are reasonable especially considering the size of the portions. Highly recommend. We dined inside but they also have patio dining. read more

HORRIBLE service from her tonight- lacked communication, effort, and charisma; didn't even bother to tell us her name. She caused a scene when we didn't tip her great after horrible service, she left dirty plates on our table that sat there for 2+ hours with us while we waited on a to-go order that was only a pizza and a cheeseburger. I genuinely would have cut her some slack if there was at least a bit of communication but there was none. I understand that sometimes we get busy at work but she seemed unhappy with us for simply coming to dinner when we were polite to her even after being there for so long. The menu is basically endless, options for everyone (even the pickiest eater like myself) Not to mention extraordinarily cheap (another bonus for college kids). Food is average at best and woe to you if you order your meat cooked to a certain temp. they will bring you out what they want to bring you. I was very disappointed in the service and it was because there was only one server outside and it was crowded. my bill was wrong and when I tried to question it I was put off. Love Jay's, specifically for their wing night(s) on Mon & Wed. Wings are super solid and a great value. Can't argue with the $1 Busch & Busch Light cans either. The waitstaff is usually on top of things; every so often things might get a little slow, but on busy nights, they certainly have their hands full and do a wonderful job considering the low staff-to-customer ratio! Most (if not all) of the staff is generally very polite and friendly as well. Worth mentioning that most of the food on the menu is quite tasty - I typically get wings, but have sampled their nachos, pizza, burgers, fried chicken, and have always been happy with what I have eaten. Horrible service. Attempted to go on a Friday night and the doors were locked yet the place was open! It was 12:05 yet witnessed them unlock door for a regular who had just arrived how do I know because I was chatting with him they claimed he had an open tab which was untrue we had just talked about his day etc . One what a safety hazard to have all doors locked but people inside and two a very rude employee named Lauren was no help saying they're not closed but the doors are which makes no sense your open but no one can go inside. Jay's is an acquired taste, and my experience here cannot be summed up in a simple Yelp review; nevertheless, I will try. Jay's isn't for the fancy-man, suit wearing type who is expecting to be pampered by a waiting staff hanging on every word in your order. This is a dive, my friends, and expecting something else prior to your arrival is no one's fault but yours (certainly not mine). Instead, Jay's is a place where friends become family, camaraderie is second nature, and Notre Dame students on Wednesdays (or, more accurately, WednesJays) enjoy 45 cent wings, 1 dollar Busch (and Busch Lite) buckets, and have to push together tables in a restaurant that really isn't big enough for the storm that comes in mid-week. Despite the overpopulation and occasional long waits, the wings are surprisingly excellent, the service and staff is incredibly nice and dedicated, and nearly every experience I have had there was positive. I should know; a group of 10 friends and I were regulars at Jay's every Wednesday for the past year and a half. I am sad to move away from South Bend, and Jay's, but the restaurant has had a legitimate impact on many lives and I hope it will continue to do so for Notre Dame students and the community at large after I am gone. read more

Jays- nothing fancy. Just a place that serves top notch wings (on special Wednesday) and bbq. Their selection of bbq/smoked meats changes every Thursday. The rest of the menu is great as well with lots of variety. The burgers are awesome. You have to be patient- there are only a couple of servers. It can take a long time for your food to come out. That is why they only got 3 stars. Food quality, taste- 5 Stars. Oh, and Busch/Busch Light cans are always only $1. (If that's your kind of thing). ok, this place shouldn't be called a lounge, it should just be called Jays Bar. I asked about the construction, and was told it's been like that for years. Looks a little dark inside but there are some nice upgrades. The bartender was very nice and the waitress was very nice. They needed another waitress though, cause service was lacking for lunchtime, not her fault. I ordered a Turkey club and fries. The Club was on a nice taosted bun and the turkey was hot, like cooked on a flat top. Overall, sandwich was great, and my friends enjoyed their sandwiches as well. Best wings in town...hands down. Best time to go is on wednesday. Free popcorn is a nice touch to. As far as a bar its great to, music is what keeps 8t from a 5 star. Three types of music in one bar is a bit much with three types of clubs trying to happen at once. read more
