Somewhere, maybe in another restaurant or maybe at my job, I heard some redneck say what "great pizza Joey Armadillo's has". After living in Chicago for 10 years I am getting bored with the restaurants around Michiana, so, in a touch of desperation I gave this place a try- I REALLY want to find some NEW, good places to eat. That is what made this ALL THE MORE DISAPPOINTING!!! A few weeks ago I went to Joey Armadillo's for lunch and tried the meatball sammich. This place is a bowling alley, so, I would never have been in here except to specifically try the food, and my initial gut reaction was not good. A REAL RESTAURANT smells like good food cooking- not stale beer and regret. The bartender/waitress ignored me for about 5 minutes while she got drinks for her other customers and the second waitress who was serving the actual bowling alley (I was sitting in the lounge/restaurant area). When I got my sammich I knew right away this was not going to be good. The roll/bun was not toasty warm (like when a GOOD sammich just comes out of the oven), the meat balls looked dried-out and stale, like they had been in a freezer, the sauce was food-coloring red, not a deep, dark slow-simmered Carmine-red. I am quite sure this was just heated-up in a micro-wave, WHICH I ABSOLUTELY HATE!!! The taste was not good. The meatballs were dry and had a bad flavor to them. The sauce tasted straight out of a can- a CHEAP can. Three weeks later (again, out of desperate hope for something new) I went back to try the pizza. I ordered the Margarita to go. The pizza cost $18.01 with tax, not a cheap pizza! When the bartender/waitress handed me the pie I got a sinking feeling immediately. The box was too light for the size of the pizza. I have encountered really un-believably cheap, low-grade pizza before (In Florida and Pizza King in Roseland) and one of the tell-tale signs is a pre-made cracker-like crust that costs almost nothing and is probably stored in the freezer already cooked (or at least par-cooked). When I got home I opened the box and my disappointment was confirmed. A cheap, flavorless cracker-thin crust with scant low-grade toppings that was already cold, even though I had just picked it up 5 minutes ago at Joey Armadillo's. The crust has no substance so it cools very quickly. I choked down a couple slices (I PAID FOR IT and I was HUNGRY) and my disappointment actually became anger that I wasted $18 and suffered a bad meal because of this place. I threw most of the "pizza" away. Pizza has to be REALLY BAD for me to not eat it and throw it away!!! See photo. read more

My my my where to start. Was visiting family who lives in the area and was looking for somewhere to go and have fun, fun did we have. Upon entering the facility you are greeted with a restaurant entrance only sign that actually leads you to the bowling area anyways. Once you are in there you go up to the counter to purchase your lane, number of games and your torn ripped bowling shoes. I understand bowling shoes are usually a bit raggedy but these look like they were chewed up by the previous bowling alleys guard dog then sat out by the road only to get thrown over a power line before getting donated to Joey's. Games and lanes were very cheap and thank goodness were because the first roll was a strike and it didn't even count for unknown reasons, not only did it not count it but it also never brought my ball back up to which I had to go get an employee to get the ball for me because it was stuck in the track and the belt wouldn't bring it back up. After this we were on a roll everything going fine until my daughter wanted the bumpers out next game she went up to the counter while we watched she wanted to be loud and proud to ask for them herself. Her turn in line came up and the employee gave her the one minute finger and brought the couple up that was behind her instead.. why? Because she was a kid? Because we already paid and you're looking to scam the next people into being stuck here too? Idk so I then got up and he sure didn't ignore me.. we should have left but I wanted to really give this place a chance so we stayed. Now the bumpers got put up and are snapped in half? Now the employee takes 15 min to rig them together again afterwards we did have fun just ignore the place and enjoyed our bowling. Restaurant we got a pizza kinda hard to mess up so it was decent, could use more flavoring but not bad by any means. Now games are over and my daughter wants to try out the arcade... 3 games later they all eat change.. well when you're low on customers because of the smart ones who truly review the place honestly then you gotta pay the rent somehow. So honestly our party of 5 probably won't ever be back we would rather drive the extra 45 minutes it takes to go on the other side of our town to get quality and respect than to cheap out the gas and go here again. It would have been a 3-3.5 but when you gave my daughter the minute finger you lost my respect and business. 2 piece all day. read more

Sad to see this bowling alley in my hometown has gone to complete garbage after its two competitors have closed their doors in the recent years. Should have known it was going to be rough when I walked onto the floor on league night and only two lanes in the whole building are occupied. We'll start with the lanes themselves. They look a little dated but fortunately aren't covered in dents. The computers that are supposed to keep score do anything but - I rolled a perfect game according to the computer, according to the pins I scored under a 180. It judges gutter balls as strikes and spares, 3's as 8's, in fact there's no rhyme or reason as to what you might score when you play. The attendant on this particular night could barely be bothered to get off his barstool and set his magazine down long enough to get our party of 7 shoes. When asked about playing some music on the floor, his response was "You can pay to use the jukebox in the lobby." Clearly he has no desire to be here. We ended up paying for an app that lets us pick music from our phones to play on the bowling floor. Just keep adding up those $$$... Again it's sad to see a place that use to be so much fun go to complete and utter garbage. Ultimately it's a sign of poor management. Will be a long time, if ever, before I return. 15 minutes to a South Bend alley is worth not having to play here again. read more

Warning! Worst service ever. Been going here for 7 years, but the staff is horrible, rude, and Un welcoming. If you have a big group. Go some where else. Lots of creepy regulars, that stare when new people come in. When we called to tell them we were coming, they called 5 min later and asked if we could just not come. Just by pure curiosity did Hubs and I invite our family to meet us here for dinner and to catch up. How could you not be curious by the name alone?! Five adults and one small, but mighty girl stopped in to check things out. Two large pizzas, an Armadillo burger and the Smokehouse platter were ordered, plus four different apps. Before I get to the food I'll say this; friendly servers, slow service. It took longer than usual for anyone to bring us menus and take drink orders. To be fair, there was a large table of about 7 or 8 and two other couples in booths and what appeared to be two servers. Pizza seemed okay. One was a little burnt around the edges, the other was fine. Thin crust style pizza with decent toppings. I asked our server what she'd suggest and it was the Armadillo burger so I went with that. When it arrived it wasn't very impressive. A thin, most likely frozen patty with BBQ sauce and two onion rings. I honestly thought it had pulled pork on it, but I must have misread the description on the menu. It was just okay. I ate half and gave away the other half. Ohh and it had some sort of cheese on it. As far as the smoke house platter.... it comes with two sides, which was delivered, but the rest of the platter was not until asked for. A brat was served which was supposed to be part of the platter. Overall it was just an okay experience. Not awful, but certainly not really good. Typical bar food, not a huge selection, but it'll do for a night of bowling, music, and a couple drinks. Drinks are good, they aren't stingy. Fun place to be in a small city, as long as the leagues aren't there clogging up the lanes and dictating that there be no music, no black lights, and only a moderate amount of fun ;) read more

Stopped in Joey Armadillo's to visit friends and sing Karaoke with Marcus Outlaw. Marcus is the KJ, and definitely brings in the crowd on the 2nd Friday of the month. There were over 25 singers, and tables were full. 2 Bartenders, no waitress on the floor, so I go to bar to get a drink and it literally takes 10 minutes. I sipped on my drink which didn't have much alcohol in it, for about an hour. When I went up to purchase another drink, the bar tenders were washing counters & glasses, then a group of young men walked up and both bar tenders waited on them while I continued to wait. After 20 minutes, and everyone else served, I decided to pay my bill and leave. So, I do really like Joey Armadillo's. I been here multiple times and it's close to home. So my comments do not come from anger, but constructive criticism. You have to be more attentive to you bar and make sure you are taking care of customers or they will leave. read more

They are bribing people to give them 5 stars with a 10% discount to follow. Their portions of food have become dramatically less and their prices have gone too high over the past 6 months. There is little or no security there for whenever some trouble comes about. No bouncer and no one gets carded. Someone threw a dart in front of my face while I was singing karaoke and as I complained about my lack of safety no one even cared. The new karaoke dj has a lousy sound system and reckless and chaotic people in his entourage. The service is slow even when there are very few customers there. On 3 different occasions their machine that brews the sweet tea has broken down. Some of the seats cushions are breaking and they just leave them unpatched or not replaced. The stall door locks are broken and the toilet paper is rarely replaced. Overall, this place is clearly run by people that just plain couldn't care less if anyone is a satisfied customer or not and that is such a shame to be certain. read more

I have to say I love bowling, but I would not recommend this place. The lanes are nice (hence the two stars and not just one) but there are half the number of tables required to actually have a nice time. There were 5 adults and one child in my party and we were told there was only one lane available so we took it and expected to just hang out and drink and have a night evening of it. Then the bowling ally put another family of five in the lane right next to us (which was open the entire time) and there was no place for this family to sit! I spoke with the lady at the counter to see if we could grab a small table off to side that no one was using and slide it over for them. They told me no. Then they told me there were bar stools lining the back wall and that we should "just figure it out". What an unpleasant experience. They (with their four children ended up eating on a countertop along the back wall while the small table sat empty and we felt guilty for taking up space on our side of the lane. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Joey's for the first time with a group of friends in late December. The food menu was limited and moderately priced, and mostly consisted of what could be expected from a bowling alley: pizza, fries, and other appetizer-style dishes. If you're looking for a five-star dining destination, Joey Armadillo's is not the place for you. If you're more like me, someone looking for good food and a good time for not too much money, it's perfect. My group ordered the cheese pizza and the fries. I wouldn't serve it to the Queen of England, but the pizza was cheesy and the fries were crispy; what else could you want on a chilly wednesday night? It was disappointing, however, that even though the bowling alley closes at 2am, the kitchen stops serving at 9pm. So when it was 11pm and we all got hungry again, we were unable to order. The staff was friendly and attentive, even playing a certain song that we requested over the sound system. After getting our shoes, they were happy to open a second lane for our group, which was one person too big for a single lane. When a group of college students walks into an establishment, they can sometimes be met with animosity or annoyance. The staff at Joey's however, could not have been warmer. Through speaking to other bowlers, I learned that what draws people to Joey's is its weekly specials, offering very cheap bowling and drink specials on certain nights. Joey Armadillo's is a fun spot for all ages. Children will love the arcade, adults will love the full bar and poker room, and us college students (who are a little of both) will love the reasonable prices and good times. If you are passing through Niles and you want a fun night, some food and drinks, and some friendly competition, you can't go wrong here (unless it's past 8pm). read more

Horrible service. Unfortunately the only thing good about our experience today was the pizza. The staff was super unfriendly. One lady, I'm assuming the manager of the night, refused to call in for help because she didn't want to work with her ex-boyfriend. A: if you can't handle breakups you probably shouldn't date who you work with. B: totally unprofessional to tell a patron your personal business especially when you've rolled your eyes at the Birthday boy's entire family. They gave one of our lanes away and it took the 45 minutes to bring the drinks. This is not the first time we've had shady service. But the pizza is pretty great so I guess we're glutton for punishment. read more

Do not recommend. Not even a little. I spent $38 on possibly the worst food I have ever been presented with. The only edible item we received were the french fries. When I complained that the food SUUU--UUUCCCKKKKKED I was basically brushed off and told tough shit. No offer of something else, no money back, no discount, no nothing. Bowling is overpriced and we had a terrible time getting the computer thing to register our names. I went up to ask for help and the guy at the counter gave us the same instructions we were given when we first came in....like somehow saying it to me again would magically make it work. Another patron ended up hearing my distress and came over and fixed it. Also, not that it's Joey Armadillo's fault, but I came in with three children and had the infinite pleasure of sitting next to a group of trucker mouthed degenerates with no respect for other people.
