Marble tables with mismatched chairs and beat up old leather sofas. Chandeliers that have to harken back to much older tenants in this space. The food is good, I had a ham egg and cheese on croissant and it was wonderful. The croissant was surprisingly fresh. The cappuccino was rounded and smooth and didn't taste at all burnt. Service was ok. Polite but not engaging, my cappuccino was forgotten entirely and I had to ask for it again but it was then made promptly. Regulars that came in behind me had a completely different experience. Service was bright and engaging for them. Again, there was nothing BAD about my service, it was just milquetoast and the baristas seemed disinterested. This is definitely a place where people come and linger and there were folks sprawled about the sofas and typing away at the tables. If I lived in Waltham, I's probably make it a staple in my routine. But I did not linger long, I ate my sandwich, sipped half my coffee and took the rest on my way. I have a feeling this is the kind of place that just grows on you overtime, that said, if you need a coffee or tea and a snack on your way, this may be worth a stop.

Just as I said last time--you'd have to be a real Scrooge not to give this place high marks. If you have a little gem like this in your town, you should support it. Also. Friendsgiving has become a heck of a lot less stressful after discovering Judith's Kitchen. My…read morefriends and I usually plan one either the week before or after Thanksgiving, but most places that offer Thanksgiving catering only do so during the few days leading up to the big day. A couple of Friendsgivings ago I became determined to find a place where we could order catering in or around Newton where my friend hosts. After a little digging, I uncovered the gem that is Judith's Kitchen. Not only does Judith's Kitchen have oven roasted turkey breast and most of the standard Thanksgiving sides, but they have them year-round! Their full catering menu is quite extensive. That first year we ordered the turkey breast with gravy as well as the brussel sprouts, rosemary potatoes, and the butternut squash purée. The remaining sides we made ourselves. Let's just say everything was a massive hit. You pop everything in the oven to heat up and then they're ready to plate. It's so much nicer than making everything from scratch, especially the turkey. That quartet has become our regular Friendsgiving catering order. Placing an order is easy peasy as you do it with Judith herself (or you can do it online if you prefer). Just tell her what you want and for how many people and she'll let you know exactly the quantity you need. You do end up paying a bit of a premium considering we don't order a ton of food, but I think it's totally worth it for the convenience alone. I'd love to try their lunch offerings if I lived closer, but until then, Judith's Kitchen will be our go-to for Friendsgiving.

Unfortunately, I have to say that the reviews are very misleading. Not only was the man wearing…read morereading glasses who served me cold and unfriendly, but he also handed me my to-go sandwich without a bag or even napkins. Very unprofessional and disappointing. As a food critic, I must also note that the chicken salad sandwich was made with hard, chunky chicken and lacked any real flavor profile. I visited this restaurant with the intention of possibly doing a write-up on the quality of the food, ambiance, and overall value. Sadly, this place is among the worst I've tried this year. Please try Sandwich Works instead--they have the best sandwiches in Newton, and their staff is warm and incredibly friendly. Spend your money elsewhere.

The space is clean, aesthetic, and super charming. The baked goods are fun, unique, and refreshingly different from typical American desserts -- think brownies baked into pretzels, not-too-sweet nougat cookies, and savory-sweet combos like pork floss and salted egg yolk. What truly stole the show for me was the corn mochi pudding. I usually don't love corn or black sesame desserts, but wow -- they do it right. Soft, pillowy, slightly chewy, with custardy cream... highly recommend. Pro tip: reheat the pretzels, even if they're fresh. I tried mine cold and regretted it -- much better warm! The drinks are just as intriguing. I tried the fermented cheese Thai tea with crystal boba (loved that they use crystal boba!), but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The texture was super airy and creamy -- like sipping a cloud -- and if sweetness levels were adjustable, I'd definitely order it again. Service was ok. I wish the employee working there had tried the food before. She couldn't really tell me which ones were a favorite or recommended other than it's good. Overall, super unique offerings and absolutely worth a visit. Excited to come back and try more!

This is definitely a suitable replace for many of us that are too lazy to leave the building for lunch. The service has always been efficient and friendly to me. There is a nice sandwich station with many options. Hot entrees and action items are alright - sometimes it just tastes a little bland. They rotate between classic meat/starch dishes (from meat/potatoes to noodles/meat or rice as starch). The soup and salad station have been variably good. On Thursdays, there is sushi, spring rolls, and seaweed salad (albeit quite pricey for meh sushi). I also recommend using Levelup to pay to save time and earn some credit if you often forget lunch like me. Go here if you have to, but why on earth would you ever go out of your way for it.

At least twice our group has had to return their salads because the chicken was spoiled. Their soups are mediocre at best, and the entrees are typically not worth the cost ($8-12 depending on what is served). The customer service is horrible...everyone stands around taking their time to get to you, completely missing the point of it being a LUNCH break, where time is of the essence. The ONLY thing I've liked here is the sub sandwich shop, and I still question sometimes if the meats are fresh/good. Two words, JUST DON'T!!
