The room has a great view over Columbus Circle and, equally important super acoustics. Overall, it was a sensational evening and recommend you check out their programs. To add, our tickets enable us to head afterwards to the adjacent Dizzy's Club without a cover, where there was a fantastic small jazz trio. An amazing evening!

Historically speaking I had never been to the Queens Theatre before the other night when I caught…read morethe NYC appearance by the band Rolling Quartz. The band had embarked on their North American tour from their native South Korea. Since I had never seen the band before as well, the adventure to a new space for me made the whole thing more interesting to me. Now I travel via the MTA, and from Bay Ridge this event space is a bit of a hike. It's the R train to the N to the 7 to a fairly decent walk. Those who are driving or taking an Uber might have a little better trek experience than I did but that being said once I made it past the famed Unisphere and over to New York State Pavilion, it was time to go into the Queens Theatre. When I arrived there were already about 100 attendees lined up because the band was doing all sorts of VIP things with them. A cool part of the agenda for sure. Inside the theatre is a spacious lobby area with seating all around near the windows. There are concessions there but I only saw drinks being sold when I looked. There was a small merchandise table for the band set up and I imagine that when other shows happen here this will be their space as well. Right off the bat I connected to a complimentary WiFi signal which was good but seemed to go on and off during the course of the performance. Once I was in the actual performance space I was quite impressed. The stage is sizable which was great because this was a five member band with a full backline and the seats were oh so comfortable. Yes this was a Rock Show and people would likely be standing throughout the performance but when it was time to sit you could do so in comfort. I positioned myself in the eighth or so row on the aisle since I needed to shoot photographs and I was happy to report that there were no bad sightlines in the theater. The sound was also clear and impressive which was partially a testimony to the bands team on the tour. While I didn't get to explore the venue all that much outside of the show, I did see one of the spacious side rooms which I guess they do talks in or smaller events. The band has set up their meet and greets there so it was in and out in terms of time to examine. There was a complimentary WiFi that I did find to be spotty at times but I feel this was based on the amount of people choosing to live stream the show. There were obviously restrooms and while I can only speak for the men's facility it was quite clean which is always a pleasant find. Overall this was a great experience for me but I cannot fathom when and if I might make a return based on the logistics and scarcity of what most interests me happening here. I will be keeping tabs on their calendar for good measure just in case and maybe some other localized Hard Rock bands can look into it or even local promoters who wish to do something that is no too crazy.

We had a hard time finding parking as the show was about to start and the park is always busy. There were two small lots nearby that were full. Upon entering check in was easy. They had a small concession stand. The seating was great with no obstructed views. The play itself was kid friendly and told the meaning and traditions of the special day. It was very informative and entertaining. I enjoyed the different styles of dances performed, the colorful outfits, the creative scenery (which was simple but effective). I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to visiting again.

Don't get me wrong. I love the big budget fanfare of big theatres. But there is something about the…read moremore personal venues that is more...personal. You go from a spectator to a participant in a way. This can arguably happen in big budget productions, but it requires more suspension for me. It's also hard to connect with a non-narrative performer who's delivering a poem or joke. It's possible to feel their energy, but still a chore. Seeing David Martinez's Open Mic here felt like the gathering of friends and family. There was an encouragement in the air that was palpable. I rooted for each performer taking the stage. A stage streaming with "people" who are sharing their skills triumphs, and hang-ups. And so when I took the stage myself, I felt confident about receiving that same energy.

Re: #1: The Tank is unique in that it is the perhaps only place in Manhattan where you can put on a show totally for free. They only take a cut of the door and don't charge a usage fee. They have a fancy light board and a reasonable sound system to use and two distinct performance spaces to use...a 70 seat black box upstairs and a lounge set up downstairs. Re: #2: If you are new to town the Tank is a very accessible community for newbies. They are always looking for volunteers, they throw bunches of parties and are generally nice folks of mostly liberal orientations. A ton of people are involved with this place. Re: #3: Speaking of liberals...the Tank loves them. Despite being more of an independent myself, I am open minded and don't feel excluded. While not pushy about politics they do have a very active line up of liberal activities and events related to the Drinking Liberally community. There is Eating Liberally: events that talk about food and politics (and usually provide samples); there is Laughing Liberally: comedy nights; and Crafting Liberally: a Sunday get together to make stuff with fellow Liberals; and of course Screening Liberally: which shows films of interest to Liberals. Re: #4: The Tank, like lots of small non-profit spaces in NY, is basically a lab environment where young artists are trying things out. If you don't come for one of the above reasons your first visit is most likely to support a friend in a show. Do not let a lack of performer friends stop you from coming over. There a number of strong music/art festivals in particular (the Bent Fest and the Blip Fest are two) that are worth checking out for quality entertainment. So come on down to the Tank. Buy a beer, make some friends. It is located on Church St in Tribeca so it is convenient to the SoHo galleries, and Chinatown Chinese food. 5 stars cause I am biased. Boom!

Rockstar can respond and color up what I say here, but I will be honest like I am with all of my posts. I post a lot of reviews. I chose this experience for my birthday. I was very excited to bring a big group over to Rockstar from Virginia and celebrate our only night in NYC with them, especially given the amazing reviews. I have done similar crawls before, so I understand how these things go. We got to the Irish Pub (no cover if you came without Rockstar) at 8:45pm, 15mins late. It was pretty empty, but I know this is just the first place where you warm up for the rest of the night. No problem. We were passed over to Eric, who checked us in and gave us bands. We grabbed a table and started getting our drinks. Yes, they were house wells, crappy, and that is expected. No problem there either, the crawl gives a fair option to upgrade to more premium options. After 45mins, I realized we never got welcome shots. First strike in my opinion. I had people in my group who were expecting a way livelier experience. I kept apologizing to them all night, even though it was my birthday. I went to Eric and had to remind him about the shots. Also, our guide, Jimena, was still not there. Eric said she was running late. I took the shots from the bar and walked to the back to our table myself, serving the group. Jimena finally came an hour late and introduced herself. She spent the rest of the time at the pub talking to Eric and texting a lot on her phone. We left the pub promptly at 11pm. I was so pumped because we were supposed to go to Monarch, a cool rooftop bar with a view of the Empire State building. I talked it up a lot to the group. As we walked to Monarch, Jimena said we were not going to go there because they had a special event for the night. Yes, the website does say this can happen, I understand that. But why wouldn't they know ahead of time? If it happened the day of, I would tell my customers so they know what to expect and give an option to cancel. I tried to stay positive. It turns out we walked five blocks and two half long blocks, losing our buzz, to a bar called Celon (free cover even without rockstar), which Jimena said she has never been to. We walk in and we were the only people there! A group came later but wow, it was dead and very dark and disappointing. Literally any other bar would have been better. To make matters worse, Jimena was isolated and texted the entire 1.5hrs we were there. She spent 0 seconds attempting to entertain us. We tried to make the best out of it by bothering the DJ to play better music and tried to dance some. We left that disappointment to get in the limo. I had two girls in my group who were so hyped up for the limo, as they had never been on one before. We got in and there was no AC for 90% of the ride. Also, Jimena couldn't figure out how to play music in the limo. The lights were also off, so we sat in the dark and used our cell phones as a flashlight. Some guy ended up figuring out the music and Jimena rolled down the windows for air. It started raining and those of us by the windows were getting wet! To top it off, the limo driver began to cuss us out when we reasonably asked him to turn up the air and turn on the lights. When we were waiting for umbrellas to get out and go in to Hudson Terrace, he yelled at us to GET THE F*** OUT!! Happy birthday to me right? Jimena reasonably felt bad, so they arranged for my party to have bottle service. The gesture wasn't unnoticed, but the bottle was undrinkable and random people wouldn't even drink free drinks without taking a sip. We were also asked to tip $30 for the service, which we didn't ask for in the first place. We decided to leave within 45mins at Hudson Terrace. The owner also threw the bottle service gesture in my face the next day via text when I complained and added "Your welcome" to close out his point. Wow. To save my night, my friends decided to walk over to the Press Lounge at Ink48 nearby. That was the only nice part of the night. In the future, I recommend people to avoid this place. Go to playwright pub yourself for free, go to Celon for free, and go to the Press Lounge (next to Hudson Terrace) for free. For the Option B $45, all you are paying for is a welcome shot (which you have to ask for, not very "welcoming") and a poor limo ride to Hudson Terrace. You could get much more for $45 a person in NYC. If you don't believe me, send me a message and I will be more than happy to plan a trip for you and save you a poor night.

It definitely felt "intimate". There were only a few seats strewn around the top deck which was tough for some folks w mobility issues. Just something to consider. You may be standing for 3 hours. Very small bar area downstairs - confusingly two bars set up but unclear if two separate lines (one for booze, one for food and booze? Unclear...)? Sound not the best but you're on a boat so c'mon... Bathrooms surprisingly clean and non-boat like. The ride itself is fun too! We got to see some pretty sights on a gorgeous summer night. I'd go again if another band I liked was playing (but hopefully on one of their bigger boats. Lol).

Rocks Off Concert Cruise is a cool way to see spectacular views of NYC, while making corny, hacky…read morejokes like "I'm on a boat!" amongst like minded fans of a musical act. On our cruise we were aboard for the "The Sons and The Heirs" - A popular Smiths/Morrissey cover band. We liked it so much we did it twice (2014 and 2015). The Jewel itself is not a luxury yacht - the decor is fairly plain, but relatively clean vessel painted all white with a large area below deck with windows, bar and the band usually plays towards the front of the ship. The upper deck has a small light up dance floor (ala Saturday night Fever, but not quite) and this year has fake grass carpet along the front and side. There are plenty of chairs along the side and some outdoor furniture to sit upon in the front. There is another bar located on this level. Watch the bartenders and what they charge you for drinks - early in the evening for we were charged $9 a piece for Grey Goose and Club, a half hour later he tried to charge $12 - a bit shady, but it's not like you can just leave! haha Drinks are decent, but you may be better off sticking with beer. Although it may be a bit difficult to see the band you will be able to hear the music anywhere on the boat so what I often do is just hang on the upper deck taking in those, beautiful, impressive views. Perhaps dance a little if the mood strikes. Talk with some friendly passengers. Just have a generally great time on a beautiful NYC summer night! These cruises are well worth the price of admission for a unique NYC experience. BTW - Do you also hear "Empire State of Mind" whenever you see anything New York related or walking down her streets? Freaking Alicia Keys/Jay Z! Get out of my head!

This is my first paid concert. I had read reviews about this place because I was planning on wearing heels, but red this place had some long stairs here and decided against it, wise choice. There were even stairs leading to the bathroom. Since this was a seated venue and I came early I gotten to choose my seat and I had gotten close enough to the stage that was the General Admission area. Syleena looked and sounded great and was taking requests, how many artist does that and she's also funny as hell. The venue prices for food are a little pricey high, but the servers were great and the tables are too close, a small area to squeeze through. I had the shrimp cocktail and presentation was great with the lemon wedges. It was funny how that I saw that the female server assistant was bringing the wrong food to the wrong tables, I'm guessing she's new. It was a little bit distracting how seeing the waiters going back and forth with the food while watching the show. The waiters wore white shirt and black pants with suspenders and a bowtie. The servers assistant wore black button down shirts and pants. They took forever to bus my table and I still had my ice water sitting at the table after the end of the show. The bathroom was clean, but often supply needed to be replenished such as toilet paper and hand towels. I gotten a club feel because of the lighting, but the bathroom was dark you couldn't see what was going on in the stalls and one of them had no hooks to hang your belongings and no toilet seat covers. The end there was a meet and greet and they were selling t-shirts, but that part wasn't advertised. I given Sony Hall four stars because of the bathroom. Would I go here again if they had another musical guest that I like, heck yeah because of the great service that I had received.

Last night I saw Jackrabbit featuring Dermot Mulroney at Sony Hall in NYC. I decided to go when I…read moreread the lead singer was Dermot Mulroney from The Wedding Date and My Best Friend's Wedding, two of my favorite movies, so I was excited to see him in person. Dermot tours with his brother Kieran, and they were exceptional. The entire band was incredibly talented. It seems like Dermot has found a real passion in music, and it was fun to see that side of him. One of the sweetest parts of the evening was hearing how excited they were to be performing in the Broadway district. As a New Yorker, I totally loved that. You could tell they genuinely appreciated being there, and that excitement carried through the entire show. I went by myself, and it was easy to get lost in the music. It was also very cool to see them in such a beautiful, intimate theater. Sony Hall was the perfect setting for the show. If Jackrabbit comes through your town, definitely grab a ticket. If you enjoy country, folk, or Americana music, I highly recommend seeing them live. And if you love live music, definitely go to Sony Hall. It's a great venue whether you're there for a seated event or one where everyone is up dancing. Highly recommend.
