Went for Drag Queen Brunch with some friends from out of town. This restaurant is located on the 4th floor of Yotel. It was a great show with a lot of amazing acts. They were timely on their food/drinks. I had a latte which was pretty amazing. Ended up getting an oj which was pretty amazing and a latte. They tried to make a heart with the foam of milk and it tasted really good. Ended up getting the mushroom omelette. I really liked how fluffy the omelette was and how it had feta cheese. read more

The entertainment is amazing!! Went to see the dancers who sing cabaret and absolutely loved it. So impressed by all the talent and loved watching my friend Carina Milano sing. The venue was set up very well. The servers and door workers were on the younger side but very professional and helpful. The pizzas felt like a good thing to try at this kind of place and they were good with extra toppings. Though I will say the "margarita pizza" was just plain cheese... Drink options were great and made the venue a place where you can get it all!!! read more

Great place to see a show and have dinner. My only complaints are that the venue is rather dark. I used my cell phone flashlight to read the menu. And that the venue only opens 1 hour prior to the show so that you're forced to eat during the show. Otherwise, food is great. I ordered the pork belly tacos though for the price, I'm not sure if it's worth it. But they were delicious. Also enjoyed the Artichoke Flatbread. If you're seeing a show, you won't be disappointed and will be able to hear wherever you're sitting in this small room. read more

New York City needs a place like The Green Room 42, and more of them. It is really the perfect space to see a cabaret show, with great food and a great set up that makes it ideal and accessible for anyone with price ranges that go from reasonable to a little pricey. But what really sets this place apart from the others in the best possible way is that there is no drink or food minimum. So for someone who is budget conscience, they can spend $35 for a seat in the main area and just as good as any of the others, without worrying that they have to spend three times more to be there. This is something that some of the other places in the city could benefit from. It's pretty tremendous for a place that is in the middle of Hell's Kitchen and the Theater District and gets top name performers. I'm already grabbing tix to other shows before it's too late, like Lilias White. We were a little nervous about the food after reading some of the reviews. But we both had full meals that were delicious and not overly expensive, another plus for TGR42. And to add to that, they give you 10% off on the food with your ticket purchase. There is not a bad seat in the house. And while the show we saw wasn't our favorite -- it had more to do with the performer, not the venue -- we will definitely be returning back on a regular basis. read more

I never knew this venue existed until I found out Adam Pascal was performing there. What a great venue! Cabaret style seating with offerings of food and/or drinks. And the great thing about this place is that there is no minimum purchase requirement! I hate when venues force you to purchase food/beverages, when you already paid the price for a show tkt. Kudos to The Green Room 42 for not being greedy. I loved this intimate venue (inside The Yotel Hotel; 4th floor). You really get to have an up close and personal experience with the artist performing. The downside is the table service going on during the show (blocking view of the stage; dropping utensils, etc). They do their best to minimize table service during the show (you can text your order to the kitchen during the show) but still, it is quite distracting. For this particular show, Adam Pascal was fantastic! Lots of story telling (I was intrigued) and of course, singing. What an incredible voice he has! Even though I was seating in a booth in the back of the venue, I still managed to take some great photos. All in all, a great experience and I will definitely be back! read more

Came here for the first time to hear a jazz band doing broadway tunes. The band was very talented and it Show was very enjoyable. The room is very cozy and a perfect size for the type of shows held there. The best thing is that there's no minimum drink or food order. There are booths , counter seats and regular tables. I did have a middle eastern platter of a few dips including Labne, tzaiki, humus and one other. It was ok not great. The bread , however, was delicious. My friend had a burger which was fine. Thick cut fries. Nice size Prosecco. Great friendly service. Just an update- went back a second time. Had the potato Caesar salad with shrimp. It was amazing. Shrimp added in was perfectly flavored. If you're going here for a show I recommend getting dinner and drinks somewhere else before the performance. The food and drinks here are such a rip off. The show I saw was amazing and the venue looks pretty cool but that's all the positive things I can say about the experience. The way this place is run is embarrassing. Everything is done completely to maximize profits, nothing to make the customer comfortable or happy in any way. They make you wait out in the hallway for a while before you can go in. Then you have to wait longer on line to check in which takes forever. The staff in charge of checking people in and seating people is a mess. Rude and confused. There were 2 servers for what must've been 30-40 tables. They were trying their hardest, completely frazzled and stressed out from the moment the night began. Kitchen is fast and food was pretty good but what they give you for the price is a joke. My boyfriend got the ribs which was $28!!! Guess what came with it? Literally nothing. It was like a small appetizer plate of ribs!!! Literally no vegetables or ANYTHING. And the $24 chicken sliders? Three small sliders with no fries or anything. If the experience were slightly more pleasant I wouldn't be so upset about the prices but they really could not care less if you have a good time or not. It was also very uncomfortably hot in the venue. I can't imagine how hot the servers and performers were because I was sweating just sitting! $18 signature cocktails.... They should rethink those recipes cuz wow the one I got was one of the most poorly made, off balanced cocktails I've ever tasted. I have been to Green Room 42 a few times and have really enjoyed my experience here! The prices for the shows are always around a rush ticket price for a broadway show so they are very reasonable. I really appreciate that there is no food and beverage minimum here. Most other cabaret style spaces that I have been to in NYC have a 2 drink minimum or something like that. Here, they offer drinks and a full menu but you don't have to get anything if you don't want to! It is a great spot for people who want to see shows without breaking the bank. Most recently, I came here for the boy band brunch show and I also saw Eva Noblezada's solo show. Both were fantastic!! I really love seeing shows at this space and will be back to see more here! read more

Russ Kaplan had the best show here with seriously great jazz talent and some vocal guests from broadway who sang so well- It felt like a private evening at our own personal jazz venue! I was pleased with the seating and our waitress was outstanding - personable ,swift and helpful. Ordered drinks that never came, waited until every table had their drinks to say something. Madison was a redeeming employee. The rest horrible. I actually had to get up 3 times to get service. Which wasn't quick to arrive. I had a total of 2 glasses of wine. I was there almost 3 hours. The performance was lax and way too political. I would have like to see entertainment. Also eating while said performance was going on was not cool. Terrible service. Manager acting like a patron eating and drinking while our table had nothing! We went to see a friend perform last night. First thing you should know is that the seat map does not portray the venue in that there is barely any space between the tables - so be aware of that. The space is really nice though and the staff - especially Hailey are lovely and accommodating. But let's talk about the food: the Brussels sprouts are outstanding! They are cooked to perfection, plentiful and worth it. Don't let the sticker shock for the truffle fries scare you. - there are enough for 3 and they too are cooked to perfection. I ordered the bruschetta with roast beef and cheese. DO NOT order this. 4 pieces of somewhat tasty morsels - and I mean morsels - you will get a 1 inch square of roast beef overcooked on each slice of bread slices that are larger than the size of a baguette. My friend had the cheese platter which had 4 crackers on it and needed to ask for more crackers (which they brought) my husband had the fish tacos which he said were just meh. read more

Hard to find because google doesn't explicitly say it's in the yotel but eventually I figured it out. We went to see a drag show by Paige Turner, and the performance was awesome I love the cabaret set up with small tables. If you aren't in front it can be hard to see the performers on stage. Knocked off a star because my friend and I both ordered the same dish (kale salad) but mine without onions due to an allium allergy. The food runner delivered the salads to the wrong table and then gave my friend the onion free salad and I the onion salad. Normally would be able to tell but it was pretty dark so I ended up eating some onions the first bite. Luckily I'm not too sick just digestive discomfort. Overall, great funky vibes and a fun space. I came for a show and this is what you can expect from the door to the floor. I didn't partake of any food or drinks so will only speak to the layout this time. The lounge is situated inside a modern office building so you have to take an elevator to its floor. It is on the level with some other bars and food establishments in the far back corner. Dont worry its not like one of those dingy hole in the walls like those comedy shows near Times Square are. It basically looks like a class jazz bar with a full bar in the back. The host at the entrance helps seat everyone firs come first serve so arrive early to get a decent seat or else you may end up holding up the wall or sharing a table. They will accommodate and try to make seating if the room fills which is a nice courtesy but at least they give you a heads up at the front before you pay to enter. Drinks run around $13+ and appetizers $9+ so expect a date with a little of everything to run you around $50+ easily. There's a new kid in town, or at least a newish one. I LOVE this venue, though 10th Ave ugh for an East Side girl. I end up taking Via or Uber there and then walking back happy and tipsy to get the NRWQ from Times Square. I basically stopped going to cabaret entirely, except Feinstein's/54 Below and Green Room 42. GR42 has no minimum and you don't feel like they're pushing you to spend money. This is the advantage to being attached to a source of revenue beyond the venue. Cabaret economics are beyond depressing. As one who produces a show annually at 54 Below and puts 250 hours into promotion and casting/rehearsal schedules to get to 85% and still break even (or lose 350 bucks when 110 paid main dining room seats sold), I understand the financial side of this art form. And it's brutal. GR42 doesn't have a minimum but the food is SO good and reasonably priced you end up ordering food. The cauliflower (fried, but really flash fried) is exquisite. The beet salad one of the best I've had. I love the flatbreads too. Drinks are fairly priced (lower than Met Room---which had horrible sweet cocktails missing only an umbrella and watered down classic cocktails, so I ordered whiskey neat if not reviewing and getting a comped drink or two). And the shows are fantastic. Russ Kaplan's Broadway Jazz Band is not to be missed. I think the next one is June. I've also seen Broadway stars solo: F Michael Haynie's show was fantastic. A few guests at both of those shows. Corinna Sowers-Adler performs here, too. My only complaint: the chairs are pure agony. They're cute, with beaded plastic back, but you cannot sit still. I don't think it's by design (so you will get drunk just to numb the pain). But it is almost worth paying more money to sit in a booth. I'd rather sit on the floor than sit in those chairs. If they'd change them out, I'd give this venue 5 stars. (They have remote ordering, too. I'm way too old for that and always order with the server.) read more

Sheridan is one of the best and kindest techs I've ever worked with. They made sure that our mix was impeccable and all our needs were met. Our problem was that we paid for ringside seats and were not seated in them. When we questioned EVERYONE, they all had a different story: "I'm just the server!" , "We added more ringside seats+ (Not on the web sight you didn't!), "What do you want to make things better?" "Comp our drinks" "WE CAN"T DO THAT!" Look, on principle, they should have happily refunded the difference in price for the seats BUT THAT was unheard of. So, they took our e-mail....and it's been over a week. The topper? On our way out another group had the same problem. read more

Nasty nasty manager. Poor service from most people. I arrived at the bar pre-show, asked for one of the drinks on the menu. The bar tender informed me they didn't have the ingredients to make it. No problem, I said, and asked for a recommendation of one of their cocktails that was available. He recommended one, and I said I would have it. Then he disappeared for close to 10 minutes... I got the drink and it was fine. A few minutes later, a couple sits down next to me and orders the original drink I'd asked for and it's made for them without question............. I didn't press the matter, because it wasn't worth the argument, but it certainly was a sign of how the rest of the night would go. Won't be returning. read more

I came here without knowing anything about the venue and came for a night of singing by Eva Noblezada. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service of the Green Room 42. Within minutes of seating our server was at our table and provided us with menu's and gave us ample time to choose drinks and then look at appetizers/entrees. Our cups never hit the bottom and so I think that the wait staff is quite attentive. The food was also delicious. I had the pork belly appetizer and it was overall very tender although some pieces were quite fatty when compared to others. For the entrée I had the skirt steak and my girlfriend ordered the cheeseburger. Both entrees came out within a reasonable time and were cooked very well (I ordered medium rare and that's what it was). During the performance they had a method of using lamps or text ordering so that waiters were not wandering around during the performance which I thought was a great touch. Overall a great experience and I would definitely recommend coming back here for any type of night in which you are looking for both good food and entertainment. read more

Somebody at Green Room 42 made a BIG mistake last night, and here's what happens when I get Hot and bothered and manic due to someone else' neglect and stupidity (I've already copied this to YELP!, Trip Advisor, and any other website tourists go for reviews). Last night (5/22/21) a major error in judgement occurred on a HOT Spring day in NYC. The 7pm performance of a major Broadway Star was allowed to go on in the Green Room 42 without any air conditioning in a packed room. At least 150 people were stuffed into what eventually became a "hot box," something only Guantanamo prisoners are meant to endure in order to get information from them. Well, it worked, I am going to tell everything. Every act of stupidity that occurred by the management of the Green Room 42 venue. I had previously been there weeks earlier and noticed (but did not report) a lack of air conditioning in the venue. Not only that, but there were no fans on during two perfs that were separated by months. Meaning that this problem has never been addressed since re-opening in 2021. I highly suggest anyone purchasing tickets to this venue in 2021 ask for a tour of the HVAC repairs that have been made to the venue's system regarding Covid MERV filtration and basic A/C requirements. You do not want to be wearing a MASK indoors and be subjected to high heat. The entire evening was insane since no beverages were allowed to be brought into the venue nor were any beverages offered AFTER the performance. I understand the concept of the "SHOW MUST GO ON" but you have to mediate the situation. You have to TURN ON A F*CKING FAN in a room FULL of people. It was a SOLD OUT event and old as well as young people were made to suffer for Art. The band and star of the show had bottled water on stage, but again, NOTHING was offered to the audience for purchase or for free. Some walked out, but I stayed because I loved the Star and had not been able to see them perform for over a year due to Covid. This was a special night and it was completely ruined by a completely tone-deaf staff. The pre-show announcement indicated there were problems with the A/C that would be fixed during the show. THAT never happened. And no fans were brought into venue nor water (iced or bottled). No public apology was offered. This is a mismanaged operation and I warn any future ticket-buyers to do your due-diligence and make sure these failures are corrected before you spend a lot of money to have your evening ruined save the talent of the person you love and having to watch them sweat through their FIRST LIVE SHOW BACK FROM COVID. What should have been a night of love & joy was horribly compromised by the stupidity and arrogance of the Green Room 42 management. You've been warned. Hold them accountable. This should NEVER happen again to a New York Broadway-caliber audience. read more

This place had amazing service and food. My friend and I ordered the nachos which was great since the portion was large enough for us to share it. Our waiter was also very kind and visited the table a good amount of times to make sure we were okay and often refilled our water. For the show, we were seated in the last row of round tables and our table was right next to the longer bar tables. I could see the stage perfectly fine but if someone from the bar tables were to pull out their chair a little more away from the table (which happened only once but it was before the show started) then I wouldn't be able to see the stage. This review is for the Green Room 42, a new cabaret space inside the Yotel at 42 Street and 10th Avenue. It is a good effort, but there is room for improvement in several areas. The room is planned fairly well with banguette booths along two exterior walls, and tables for 4 in the main room (16 tables). There is also a small bar/stool seating near the entrance, and another long tall thin table (bar-like) seating 16 along the opposite wall. This last seating option is not ideal. The sight lines to the artist are difficult, and it is hard to see the artist for most of the show if you are near the back and the table is full. One great aspect of the cabaret venus is that there is no food/beverage minimum. For some this is a perk as they just pay the low cover charge for the artist. However, when one arrives an hour before the performance I would think that person plans to eat/drink, which was my intent. While the general lighting is fine for the table/booth seating, the lighting for the bar table was minimal with just the 3 table lamps offering light to read the menu. When my food arrived I could hardly see what I was eating - there is no reason to have such dim lightlng prior to the show performance. I arrived an hour before the show and was given a seat at the long bar table. Meanwhile when the show started there were 8-10 chairs empty at tables. I don't understand why you wouldn't seat someone coming that early at a table, which is more comfortable and offers more enjoyment for the evening. The food was good, fries crispy. The wait staff was not overly attentive. Was often difficult to get their attention. They never returned to find out if everything was alright or if I wanted anything else - another drink, dessert, etc. Checks were handed out near the end of the set, which is typical. However, since this was a one show only performance I don't think that was so necessary as there isn't a need to rush the patrons out to prepare for the next show. With the check came a raffle entry to fill out. I didn't notice that and gave it back with my credit card to pay the bill. When the bill returned, the raffle card was also attached - and was filled out for another patron. A mix-up by the staff! I didn't get the chance to fill it out - that is if I could see it with the poor lighting. Overall, the room is a great spot for cabaret performance - if you are seated at a table or banquette. The food is good portioned, and enjoyable and moderately priced. The space needs to work on adding some lighting aspects. Also, creating a more inviting staff would help the overall ambiance as well. I may return to see if they have improved as they get more experience. read more

I attended a show at this venue last night. The show itself was lovely! I enjoyed the music and the performances. This review in NO WAY is above the performers or the work that we saw. This is entirely about the venue and how it is run. My partner and I attend these sorts of cabarets frequently all over the city and we've never had a bad experience at any of them until this one. We arrived about 20 mins before the concert was set to start and checked in and then had to wait for what looked like a high school girl to show us to our seats. We had gotten bar seats since we general never order food, just drinks and don't mind being off to the side. However, the stools had no backs, and rotated which made it impossible to keep still. However, this is something I could look past except bar seats faced a mirror that was surrounded by 50 or so bright lights that gave off an incredible amount of heat. This ended up making both my partner and I nauseous and gave us headaches. After 30 mins of being seated, no one had come over to offer us water or ask we wanted to order anything and the lights made us feel so sick that we desperately needed water. We ended up going back out to the guy checking people in and saying that we really needed water and no one had come to serve us yet. It still took another 10 minutes before someone came over and she had an attitude from the beginning. Seemed annoyed that we wanted to order anything at all. So we placed our order and it took another 15 minutes or so to get to us and all we ordered was a seltzer and a cocktail. The venue did have a way to order from your phone however since we were seated at the bar we had no table number and was not able to place and order that way. The show ended up starting 40 mins after it was supposed to and honestly for a Monday night that is unacceptable considering many of the attendees have work in the morning. Once the show started, our waitress was incredibly disruptive. She kept walking into tables and chairs, performers going up to the stage, and dropping things. Eventually she did come over and ask if we wanted anything else and we ended up ordering another round of drinks. She disappeared and then it took over 3 numbers before we were severed and we didn't receive our drinks until the beginning of the last number... After the concert ended, it look over 10 minute before we received our bill. While we were waiting the guy who had checked us in came and asked if we did eventually get someone to come over and we said yes, but it took way too long. He then mentioned that they had covered our first round of drinks, something the waitress never mentioned. Finally our waitress came over and we immediately handed her our card so she could quickly check us out. However, she disappeared with our card and then we saw her wandering around. Over 10 minutes later, a different waitress came over to us, showed us our bill with our card and asked if it was ours. Our original waitress didn't even tell her who the card belonged to and told her to give it back to us. In general, it seems the venue is not zoned for the waitresses so it is a free for all and you have to yell and flag someone down and since we were off to the side next to the heat lamps, it was impossible to get someone to help us. They really need to change the lightbulbs around the mirror to a lightbulb that doesn't give off heat. It was so incredibly uncomfortable sitting there under what felt like hot lamps. They did dim them for the concert but they should have been dimmed the whole time. Lastly, they need to be better about getting checks out to guests. There was a cocktail hour after the concert that we ended up having to miss because it took us 20 minutes passed the time the show ended to just pay our bill and by that time we were so over everything that we just left. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Some of the upcoming guests looked interesting but the service is horrendous. read more

I had, perhaps the worst meal I've eaten in NYC at The Green Room 42. Please avoid the calamari curry flatbread. It was doused with a thinner version of sour cream that made the whole pizza tart and unappealing. I removed as much as I could to salvage the $18 flatbread. The curried potatoes and calamari on the flatbread edible but not enjoyable. This combination is not worth replicating. read more

With the right people and for a certain crowd, this is the place to go for a show + drunch (drunk brunch). It reminded me of the crowd at Drag show brunches, but with an elevated experience level. I had the pleasure of going to the Boy Band Brunch one Sunday. My group showed up at 1PM to start drinking and I got there at 2PM right before the show. I'd highly recommend getting a seat in the front row if you want to be serenaded. The performers were having a blast, the audience enjoyed themselves, I had fun and the staff were happy to have everyone. Our server seemed genuinely excited to welcome us. They also have table lamps you can turn off to signal your server during the show. I was surprised how tasty and strong the drinks were since most Brunch shows serve less than stellar beverages. The food was acceptable, my omelette was okay. My friend's egg dish with Hollandaise looked tasty and the crazy donuts were fun. I think I just ordered the wrong item on the menu. I can't comment on the price/value as my work friend picked up the tab for the group, but the prices seemed normal for NYC. $14-20++ for an entree and I think $16++ for a cocktail? Great venue because it's small and intimate but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. They refunded me for a canceled show (which they did quickly) and I had a very specific question about the refund so I followed up. I emailed them twice in the space of a week and absolutely no response to any of my emails. Highly unprofessional and disappointing. Update.....the director at the venue has reached out to me and rectified the whole situation in a most accommodating way. At the end of the day I walked away very happy. read more

We live in the neighborhood and love this venue. The MC is talented..on point/funny. They offer a talented mix of theatre/cabaret options. We've likely come here more than 5-6 times and always enjoyed. No minimum which is a great gesture to ensure access to all. read more
